Sacramento Roller Derby

edit

The two Sacramento-based WFTDA leagues merged, and as they've announced their new name, I went and merged the two articles as Sacramento Roller Derby (I renamed Sac City to this, and merged Sacred City into it). I kept 2006 as the founding year and a league member changed it to 2018, but I decided to revert it with explanation and take it to talk, explaining my reasoning there, if you're interested in commenting. Let me know what you think. Echoedmyron (talk) 21:39, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

deleted derby logos

edit

Hi! I see that a number of derby articles had their logos removed for copyvios in the past 24 hours, and from looking at edit histories it seems likely that those logos were originally uploaded by you. It doesn't look as though the bot - or editor - who deleted them gave you a notice of any sort. Before I tackled re-uploading them I wondered if you had any inkling as to why someone deleted them? (Figuring that you know what you're doing when you're uploading logos maybe you'd have an idea what happened?) Articles affected seem to be Nidaros Roller Derby, Magnolia Roller Vixens, Gray City Rebels, McLean County MissFits and E-Ville Roller Derby. Echoedmyron (talk) 14:56, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up! Looks like they'd all been moved to Commons at some point - unfortunately, I can't find a way of seeing who did that, but as Commons is for free files only, that shouldn't have happened. If you've got copies, there should be no issues with re-uploading locally here. Warofdreams talk 20:59, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
I went through and re-uploaded new logos for most of them - I realize the former E-Ville logo was an older version no longer in use. The only one I didn't re-add was for Magnolia, as the league merged into another organization and no longer has an operational website. I'll try to keep an eye for any getting uploaded to the commons inappropriately! Echoedmyron (talk) 23:28, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sonoma County Roller Derby

edit

An IP editor - who has only ever made 3 edits - is proposing deleting Sonoma County Roller Derby. I note that their 3 edits have only been on this article, and 2 of them have been to propose deleting it. Wondered if you could have a look. National news sources may been thin, but then that is going to be the case for many league articles. Echoedmyron (talk) 14:26, 2 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I've removed the proposed deletion, the editor can take it to AfD if they want, but national coverage isn't required for notability (it could be debated whether the newspapers cited have a sufficiently wide audience, but I'm no expert on the circulation of regional and local newspapers in the US!) Warofdreams talk 23:23, 2 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Heads up - an editor has started a convo at WT:SPORTS asking for notability guidelines on derby articles, and in doing so mentioned Sonoma again, along with a couple of other league articles. Sometimes this leads to extra attention on derby articles, so I wanted to give you a heads up. I also note that I think you're better versed on WP:GNG than I, so you may have some valuable input there. Thread here: [1] Echoedmyron (talk) 14:34, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Votes for Women (newspaper)

edit

On 8 March 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Votes for Women (newspaper), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that British suffragettes (pictured) had to stand in the gutter to sell their newspaper Votes for Women, or risk being arrested for obstructing the pavement? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Votes for Women (newspaper). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Votes for Women (newspaper)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

2011 Roller Derby World Cup logo tag

edit

Hi! I had uploaded the logo for the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup way back when; it got tagged as failing non-free use rationale, and I wondered if you could have a look. When I uploaded it 7 (!) years ago, I filled out the available parameters at the time, and can't tell if it's just that templates have changed or if it is really missing something. Going to WP:FUR as the bot notice instructs seems to want me to add a new template that would replicate much of what is already in there, which is part of what is confusing me. I mean, I'm also jetlagged from having flown home from Spain yesterday, so maybe it's just me... Echoedmyron (talk) 15:29, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think I've sorted it, the rationale was referring to the Roller Derby World Cup article, but since I created the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup article some years ago, it's actually used in that article instead. Nice work in Spain, btw, hope you enjoyed it! Warofdreams talk 08:28, 5 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ah, thanks - I missed how it was linked. And thank you for that too - it was exhausting but thrilling! Echoedmyron (talk) 13:13, 5 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Gabu, Guinea-Bissau

edit

Hi Warofdreams. First of all, congartulations on your staying power! 15 years! Impressive. Anyway, going back 13 years, it is most likely that you might no longer remember what you did back then. I see that you created Gabu. If you do remember, do you have any idea how you arrived at the spelling of Gabu with the accent on the u? Thanks, reagrds, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 00:25, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. As I remember, I used the accent in the article title purely because it was the spelling used in the Rough Guide to West Africa, not the most authoritative source! Warofdreams talk 09:08, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the feedback. And good memory to boot! I would like to change it to Gabu — in Portuguese and threfore Portuguese-speaking countries — when a word or name ends in a u it is automatically stressed, so it does not require the diacritic acute accent. Thanks, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 12:08, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

File:Fórsa union logo.svg

edit

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:20, 14 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Joseph Cunningham (politician)

edit

The article Joseph Cunningham (politician) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references; written in first person; no notability demonstrated

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gotham Girls Roller Derby

edit

Hi! A headsup: someone just cut a huge swath of material from Gotham Girls Roller Derby; a lot of it was overly detailed and could certainly go, but the editor removed a bunch of sources and/or replaced the citations with notes that circled you back to the article without letting you access the source. (not sure what they were attempting with that part.) I've restored the citations, and in some cases restored some sourced material that I felt was significant. Of course, since I had to go into the previous version to grab sources, I at one point inadvertently restored too much and had to revert myself. Ugh. All to say, if you have a chance have a look and see if I missed anything, and if there's further cutting/restoration you thought would be necessary. For a league with their significance, I had been loath to cut too much myself, but here we are. I suspect the editor may be a league member, giving their WP name, but I could be wrong. Echoedmyron (talk) 00:11, 24 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think the current article looks good; while the cut material was of some interest, some of it was outdated and difficult to keep current, and some was unreferenced. The only thing I've spotted is that it looks like some of the league history section has lost its references. Warofdreams talk 22:08, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Joseph Compton, Labour Party MP for Manchester Gorton

edit

Hi Warofdreams, I have recently discovered a page about Joseph Compton, Labour Party MP for Manchester Gorton, who just so happens to be a distant relative of mine. It turns out that the image that was uploaded of him was uploaded by yourself. I was wondering if you had access to a better quality version of the image or if you had any ideas of where to find it. Any help would be great thank you. TimeForTaylor (talk) 18:07, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message! Unfortunately that's the highest quality version of the picture I have access to, though if you can find a library with good quality copies of the Illustrated London News you might be able to find a slightly better quality version.
