Hi. I did read your message, but I've been preoccupied with other stuff. A word of advice - when someone edits my talk page, it shows up in a big orange stripe. When you edit my user page (which you shouldn't be doing anyway), it doesn't inform me at all other than by watchlist.
I may get on to the map soon, maybe not. Like I said, other stuff. -mattbuck (Talk) 20:34, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry about that, I didn't know what to do to get the orange stripe, oh well...

Coleford Railway Map

Thanks for the offer Mattbuck, I am not desperately in need of it right now but you are welcome to make it...

Wye Valley Railway Mad (talk) 17:51, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

A word of advice...

Just to say that what you're doing looks fine, in general, but if I could just give you one tip it would be to be a little more informative in your edit summaries. Instead of saying "expanding article", it would be more helpful if you could outline in a few words what changes you've made, and in the same way when you're commenting on talk pages it would be sometimes more helpful to put in the summary something more informative than just "talk". Other than that, your edits are really useful and well considered. Happy editing! Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:09, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip.

Possible adoption

I'll consider adopting you. To address your first questions, you can set your signature format in Special:Preferences. You seem to already have the basic idea, but I can give further tips. As for the arrows, see Wikipedia:Edit_summaries#Section_editing and Wikipedia:Edit_summaries#Automatic_summaries. These are auto-generated, so you usually don't have to worry about them. You can always write your own summary instead (or in addition for section editing).

One thing I would like to know is whether you have previously edited Wikipedia with another account. Feel free to contact me at Special:EmailUser/Superm401 if you prefer (you may need to enable email in your preferences). Best, Superm401 - Talk 06:51, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

I'd be glad to adopt you. And I do prefer your newest signature. In the old one, people might be tempted to mouse-over the smileys to see if they lead somewhere different. Superm401 - Talk 02:27, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

WP:NODRAMA reminder

Thanks for signing up for the Great Wikipedia Dramaout. Wikipedia stands to benefit from the improvements in the article space as a result of this campaign. This is a double reminder. First, the campaign begins on July 18, 2009 at 00:00 (UTC). Second, please remember to log any articles you have worked on during the campaign at Wikipedia:The Great Wikipedia Dramaout/Log. Thanks again for your participation! --Jayron32.talk.say no to drama 22:01, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Page movement

Hi, instead of just copy/pasting pages to a new name, it's better to use the move button, as this keeps the history intact. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:46, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for making WP:NODRAMA a success!

Thank you again for your support of the Great Wikipedia Dramaout. Preliminary statistics indicate that 129 new articles were created, 203 other articles were improved, and 183 images were uploaded. Additionally, 41 articles were nominated for DYK, of which at least 2 have already been promoted. There are currently also 8 articles up for GA status and 3 up for FA/FL status. Though the campaign is technically over, please continue to update the log page at WP:NODRAMA/L with any articles which you worked during the campaign, and also to note any that receive commendation, such as DYK, GA or FA status. You may find the following links helpful in nominating your work:

  • T:TDYK for Did You Know nominations
  • WP:GAC for Good Article nominations
  • WP:FAC for Featured Article nominations
  • WP:FLC for Featured List nominations
  • WP:FPC for Featured Picture nominations

Again, thank you for making this event a success! --Jayron32.talk.say no to drama 02:21, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Template Maps

The maps are great. :) They really contribute to the articles, and I don't see any problems. Superm401 - Talk 21:04, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Section with a scroll bar

Hi, WVRMad. It's actually very easy. Just enclose the HTML you want to "windowize" in within the body of a pair of <div> </div> tags. You'll then want to define the size of the window, and tell the interpreter that the window shouldn't expand beyond that size, but scroll instead. You can to this by defining the height and overflow properties, as follows.

<div style="height:200px; overflow:auto;">

Here is the text you wish to window-ize.
You can also use the "wiki include" syntax, {{like this}}

</div>

Let me know if you have any problems. Hope that helps! – ClockworkSoul 04:06, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Doh, my mistake. When I write as overflow=auto should have read overflow:auto, with a colon instead of an equals sign. I fixed it above, and on your used page. What do you think? – ClockworkSoul 20:22, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Edit count errors

Hey, WVRMAD. The two issues you saw are unrelated. The error at http://stable.toolserver.org/editcount/ seems to be an error in a servlet that is connecting to the toolserver database. When you click the link, you get a SSL error, because jira.ts.wikimedia.org is using an invalid SSL certificate. They're misidentifying themselves, so Firefox (which I do use) is warning you. I would do the "Add Exception" process (even though Wikimedia should fix this too). Superm401 - Talk 09:08, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Scott McGann

I'm trying to create a page for Scott McGann and the LaGuardia hoax bomb incident that's been all over the news. What I published was just a first draft -- was I wrong to do this? His story impacted tens of thousands of people; what more should I do to prove notability? --Mike Schiraldi (talk) 19:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Scott McGann, continued

So I've now added citations demonstrating his notability. How do I get the speedy-deletion nomination removed? --Mike Schiraldi (talk) 19:19, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Scott McGann

Hello WVRMad, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I contested the speedy deletion of Scott McGann - a page you tagged - because: The article makes a credible assertion of notability, sufficient to pass A7. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. NW (Talk) 01:32, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Latin motto

I think the motto is cute, albeit a little (not excessively) obscure. I also can't vouch for the translation, since I don't know Latin. Be bold and submit it. Superm401 - Talk 04:48, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Omnifone article revisions

Hi WVRMad,

Thanks for your editing suggestions on the Omnifone article. Following your suggestions I have added citations to the article to ensure it is correctly referenced, verifiable and accurate (and therefore encyclopedic). Would it be possible for you to revisit the article and see what you think as we would like it to meet with your approval? Many thanks Tho2009 (talk) 10:50, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi WVRMad, thanks for coming back to me on the Omnifone article. Can you let me know if any further revisions or improvements are needed now that you're ok with it. I would like to get the remaining multiple issues tag removed. Can you recommend an admin to talk with if you cannot remove the tag?
Many thanks Tho2009 (talk) 09:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Severn Bridge railway station.png

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Severn Bridge railway station.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 05:05, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Coleford, Monmouth, Usk and Pontypool Railway

What was the rail gauge of the Coleford, Monmouth, Usk and Pontypool Railway? Peter Horn User talk 00:24, 21 November 2009 (UTC))

I have not got any published sources saying it was standard gauge from the start but I presume it was standard gauge from its opening becuase:
1) have not found any information implying that the gauge was changed and I am certain it was standard guage towards the end of it's life because I have seen many photos (including these,) that show it being standard gauge.
2) It branched from the Welsh Marches Line which was standard guage from it's construction and met with the Wye Valley Railway and Ross and Monmouth Railway (both standard gauge) at Monmouth and trains could continue onto Chepstow or Ross-on-Wye staying on the same tracks.
3) The railway company built a massive viaduct soon after the line between Pontypool and Monmouth was completed, the viaduct was only wide enough for a single standard guage track.
WVRMADTalk Guestbook 18:07, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I guess either one of us coulds update the article. Peter Horn User talk 22:07, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Under construction!.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Under construction!.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. FASTILYsock(TALK) 21:38, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 20:24, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
