Red edit edit

Hello TheFearow, I am not sure why you made the reverts you did. The deletions/edits I made were explained and justified in the discussion page and you have now reverted the page to factually incorrect. What fact-checking did you do before making the reverts?

Please check the facts behind your reverts -- then add to the discussion to justify the reverts or simply undo them. I think your reverting is irresponsible.

Thanks, EMCCSM 00:21, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

English Teacher edit

Hello,

There's always someone interesting at the Help Desk, hey? I left a rather critical comment under your last response, as I feel that the teacher's behavior is ill-befitting even a child. If it seems somewhat harsh, do please drop me a note.

Have a nice day,

Outpost Gallifrey.png edit

That wasn't vandalism in the Outpost Gallifrey.png and I'm annoyed you immediately jumped to that conclusion.Where is your AGF.

Some idiot changed the link to that picture I week ago on the page it was being used on and that tag got added in the meantime. That tag says remove it if the image is not orphan ( which it is not )which is what I did .Garda40 11:20, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

Thank you for your support at my recent Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Angus Lepper RfA, which failed, with no consensus to promote me. However, I appreciate the concerns raised during the course of the discussion (most notably, a lack of experience, particularly in admin-heavy areas such as XfDs and policy discussions) and will attempt to address these before possibly standing again in several months time. Ki-o-rahi edit

Thanks for your vote on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ki-o-rahi. Please have another look there - Moriori has made a suggestion which makes sense to me - and I'd like your consent to withdraw the AfD accordingly. However I think that the AfD for the related article The Legend of Rahi should go ahead Kahuroa 10:25, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I realize that, but the user name (NickBondIndustries) indicates (especially based on the only contribution since creating the name) that the user created it to spam, and that user created a page about themselves Nick Bond. My RfA edit

Thanks Matt. Account compromise solution edit

I noticed you had some instructions up for account compromise, and seemed to be concerned that it might occur. You might want to look at setting a committed identity string for yourself, so that you can verify you really are the rightful owner of the account in the event of compromise. Re: RFA edit

Well, thank you! I'm honoured both by your assumption and your willingness to nominate me. However, I feel a nomination may be a bit premature... I have just under 6000 edits on this account, the earliest being almost four months ago exactly. I don't have the time to immerse myself in XfDs, though I do participate in those that are delsorted into categories in which I'm interested. Some may also feel that my edit count has been artificially inflated as I was working on the WikiProjectBannerShell backlog using a semi-automated tool before my BRFA was approved.

From what I've seen of RfA, I wouldn't really stand a chance. But I could be wrong. What do you think? — Madman bum and angel (talkdesk) 14:19, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

A third party's opinion: I think that four months is a little fast for a promotion, though you might stand a serious chance in a couple of months. 6k edits is plenty to stand a chance in RfAs. EVula // talk // // 14:30, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Constantine Adraktas - ENFIELD edit

Dear Matt,
I saw my original write up, together with the accompanying Images, somewhere in my User pages, I think.
I have been unable to find it again and do what you asked me to do but, maybe, you can find it.
It was the ENFIELD AUTOMOTIVE version and I attempted to sent it for Mediation or Arbitration.
I still do not know how to sign, as you do.
Kind regards
Constantine
PS - The page I am referring above with my write up etc had my IP number (89.210.27.83 ) on the top, like a title.
Does that help to find it ?

Constantine Adraktas 07:47, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dear Matt,
Ref. BHP and E8000ECC
Broken Hill PTY in Australia bought several E8000ECC.
They wanted to support Electric Cars as they are Lead producers ( Batteries ).
I went "Down Under" but not as far as New Zealand.
Brisbane: to deliver a speech on the E8000ECC.
Sidney: to look at certain factories as to have the E8000ECC produced there, as well.
Melbourne: to negotiate with BHP.
I had contacts with AEVA, the Australian Electric Vehicle Association. I believe they are "alive and kicking".
On the way to Australia and on the way back, I spent some time in Singapore.
They were very keen to invest and have the E8000ECC in Singapore ( again, as well ).
BUT
As a co-Editor of yours said "I better get down from my SOAPBOX and stop SPOUTING about the ENFIELD 8000 !" ( sic ).

Your welcomehelper edit

Hey, I'm a fan of this script and had an idea for it. I think (maybe?) this is script is supposed to automatically welcome the user when I click on the welcome link, but it doesn't for me (I'm running firefox 2.x if that matters). Anyways, is there a way you could modify it so that when I click on the "welcome" link, a piece of script like this runs:

addOnloadHook(function () {
        window.onload = function() {
         welcome();
        }
});

so that I can run my own custom welcome template (which is also the one for that other welcome script that makes a tab for it at the top of the page. That one's good, but I think yours is better. Also, this way I can continue to use the tab, and yours will just activate it under certain conditions (clicking on the link))? Also, I've tested a script that uses something like it and it works for me. Thanks, — Bob • (talk) • 05:53, August 2, 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I tried changing it, but the problem is that the template I'm using is , and the wikitext doesn't work in the URL (I think that's the problem). Is there a way you could do it by just calling the welcome() function on pageload? — Bob • (talk) • 06:15, August 2, 2007 (UTC)
Nope, whenever I try it, it just pastes tag on the userpage. You can check my monobook.js in case I did it incorrectly (your script is right at the top). — Bob • (talk) • 06:32, August 2, 2007 (UTC)
Edit: Although welcome() is a custom function, shouldn't you be able to call it from another script as long as they're both in my monobook.js? — Bob • (talk) • 06:50, August 2, 2007 (UTC)
Awesome, it works now. Thanks — Bob • (talk) • 20:14, August 2, 2007 (UTC)

Liferay, Inc. edit

Howdy. Can you explain what is so inappropriate about this article that you threaten the creator with a block? At first glance, sure, it could be better, but it's even got references- this is much better than most newly created articles. I did a quick google and it looks to me like this company may be recognized as a legitimate player in the portal market. I don't have a firm opinion yet on whether this article belongs, but I don't see how creating it warrants a block threat. Friday (talk) 21:54, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE:RfA edit

Sadly, consensus in Wikipedia is not what you think; it's what WP:CONSENSUS says. I have left you an optional question to know what you believe is consensus. Please avoid to use the word vote, as RfA is not a vote; it's a discussion. --Boricuaeddie 22:40, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, but almost all admin actions require determining consensus, and you don't know what that is. Happy editing! --Boricuaeddie 22:44, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, how do you handle a request for protection that several users oppose to? Determining consensus, and that does not mean counting how may say "yes" and how many say "no", but the arguments that the users present. --Boricuaeddie 22:48, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Many incidents are "controversial". If you're going to recuse yourself from all of those incidents, what do you need admin tools for? --Boricuaeddie 22:53, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
No offense, but that's not very good, either. How can you ignore new users' comments!?! That would be biting and not assuming good faith. --Boricuaeddie 23:10, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It appears edit

It appears that people don't appreciate a lot of the work others do - therefore, I am planning to either retire or invoke my rtv. If anyone has any suggestions/comments regarding this, or any other alternatives, feel free to tell me below Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 23:49, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Take a break, come back rested, and continue doing useful work. You're not ready for admin tools, so what? This doesn't mean you can't do useful work. There is no need to take this personally. Friday (talk) 23:52, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Personally? Insulting my beliefs is personal. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 23:57, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm really not certain what "beliefs" you say were attacked (though I don't doubt that you feel genuinely insulted), so I can't address that in any meaningful way...but Friday is right that a little time off may provide some useful perspective. For someone with little more than two full months of in-depth contributions, you've gotten fairly close to gaining the community's trust for sysop privelages--that's a testament to your work and demeanor.
As for admiship, it's not supposed to be a big deal, right? Well, not being an admin shouldn't be a big deal, either.
Take a break & re-evaluate your time here. You'll be welcome back, if that's your choice. — Scientizzle 00:39, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Auckland Meetup edit

Hi Matt - hope to still see you in Auckland in a week. As in any thing you care about, hitting a snag is gonna hurt.

But you're a young person, and both you and Wikipedia will be around for a long time yet. By virtue of being a heavy editor alone (i.e. willing to get in and do WORK for the project), you will always have a much better chance of eventually getting adminship than 99% of all other users. So don't fret. Take a break, or dive right back into wiki-work, whatever is best for you. Cheers and happy editing. Ingolfson 09:13, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Eep. That error was actually in all the edits, repaired all, commented on the WP:RFBOT page. — xaosflux Talk 03:13, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deadbot and UAA edit

Hi, I have blanked deadbots UAA blacklist due to a consensus that reporting should be done with just one bot. See WT:UAA#Shut_off_username_bots.2C_except_HBC_Namewatcher for more info. Until(1 == 2) 19:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

DeadBot dead? edit

Don't see any updates from it since July 29 - and it's needed on Dead-end pages again... --Alvestrand 22:55, 10 August 2007 (UTC) Reply

Re:AWB Request: Make special pages from logs use Page parameter edit

Any chance of you expanding a bit more on what your after?

Some link examples would do fine :)

Cheers

Reedy Boy 21:53, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

So really we need Special Page (User) and special page (Page). Or is there a list of special pages where it would normally get the user and that wouldnt be the right action? Reedy Boy 19:26, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Small deadbot issue edit

Thanks for all the work with deadbot! One small issue I just noticed. If you compare my sandbox with the the A-C section of DEP after deadbot went through it, there's a problem with pages that start with an accented letter. Specificially, deadbot changed Ángel Alonso ('Pichi' Alonso) to ?ngel Alonso ('Pichi' Alonso), which messes up the link. Specifically, it changes the accented first letter to "??". No biggie, because I can just clean up those few and get them off the list, but I thought you'd want to know. --Fabrictramp 22:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comment edit

Thank you for your comment on my RfA, which was successful. LyrlTalk C 00:49, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Matt,

Just realised it was you. Thanks for uploading images to Commons. Please have a look at the changes I did to them to correct the categories. Only the most specific categories are used, so instead of using, for example, Auckland AND airports, I placed the image in Airports of Auckland, which links upwards to both other terms, and thus can be found via both ways. WP:RFBOT edit

Re: Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/StatusBot, I'd like to see how this scales more before going full approval, have extended the trial to 10d/1000e. — xaosflux Talk 00:18, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are clear for takeoff [3]. If it starts acting up just self-list it on WP:AIV and I'm sure someone will block. — xaosflux Talk 00:26, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yea, but aside from irc it's the quickest! I've added User:OrphanBot to the category to see what happens with a hyper-active user in the group. — xaosflux Talk 00:29, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE: Message to Jimbo edit

Thanks for the heads-up - I'm still a touch on the green side, so I had no idea who to inform in regards to a policy discussion. I started the conversation on the Village Pump, but it quickly outgrew the page and I moved it here:

User:Sidatio/Conversations/On list guidelines

If you'd like to comment, I'd certainly welcome the insight! Also, once we've wrapped this up, who do we inform of the findings? Thanks! Sidatio 01:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

RuleChecker3 edit

I see you've rolled out the welcome wagon for this user. Unfortunately, this is a recurring sockpuppet I'm keeping my distance from. A RuleChecker 2 got blocked because it's a recurring meme. Savie Kumara 23:21, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am anti-sock. Yet I keep getting blocked. Why? This is abuse of power. Wasting RFCU time serves no good. You'll only get a "confirmed" when we all know and agree that the blocked socks are socks and have already been blocked. Rulechecker3 23:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Geonotices edit

I've seen the requests, but I'm hesitant to run any without clearly defined dates. Both of the pending ones are confusing. Also, I've been telling people not to bother requesting one less than a week in advance. It takes up to 12 hours for the notices to show (or go away) because of client caching, and it takes appears to take a good week for the notice to reach most of its audience. :)

BTW quite a few of the people at the NY meetup came because they saw the notice. --Gmaxwell 00:00, 15 August 2007 (UTC) Reply

Space-insertion bug in DeadBot? edit

Hi,

could you have a look at DeadBot's code for updating comments again?

If you look at the source of Wikipedia:Dead-end pages/P-T, you will see a number of spaces after the dash that seems to correspond well with the number of times DeadBot has touched it since the last upload. It doesn't affect the display, but it's irritating when I edit the text, and it grows the page (which is already long - 245 Kbytes or so). --Alvestrand 06:46, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

BotTrial edit

Couple of little annoyances ive noticed with the template.

Approved for trial (50 edits or 5 days)

Double space between edits and or - Can you fix that? (Im at work, and aint overly familiar with the parser functions, had a quick fiddle but cant seem to get it to do what i want!!)

Theres a couple of other little spacing things that look wrong IMHO...

Runs without a bot flag. Is there any reason for that? --Maxim(talk) 18:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bots don't necessarily need flags. Only if they're making several edits a minute (like 6 or more) would they need a flag, generally. Majorly (talk) 19:11, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
