OAG

Hi Siolocke, thanks for creating Ottawa-Gatineau Art. It made me realize we're missing an article on the Ottawa Art Gallery, which I have started at Draft:Ottawa Art Gallery. You probably have a conflict of interest, so perhaps it's best if you don't edit that article directly yourself, but I would appreciate it immensely if you could point me to independent, reliable] sources. All the best, Mduvekot (talk) 18:27, 22 December 2017 (UTC).Reply

Hello Mduvekot, thanks for your appreciation of the Ottawa-Gatineau Art page! I have a draft of an article on the OAG with several reliable sources and know where to find some good pictures for the article (a picture of the building and the most recent logo could go in the infobox, for instance). It's a bit of a tricky situation as I am being paid to create the OAG article (for educational purposes, not promotional), but yes, that does present a conflict of interest. Can I send you my draft with its sources and you can work from that? You can copy & paste whatever writing of mine from the draft that you want to use and omit anything that looks biased. --Siolocke (talk) 18:49, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'd be happy to write it. I definitely do not have a COI. If you want to write it as a draft yourself, you could go though Articles for Creation, and then an independent reviewer could publish it to the article mainspace (I'm one of those AfC reviewers BTW). I'll be in Ottawa next week, and can take some photos that I can license appropriately. The logo would probably need to be under fair use, as I doubt the gallery will want to license it for reuse with a Creative Commons license. If you have photos we can use, could you upload those to commons.wikimedia.org. That would be great. Thanks again! Mduvekot (talk) 19:10, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
That's great! Thanks so much for offering to write/work on the article and for offering to take photos, that's amazing. The OAG's old location is at Arts Court at 2 Daly Avenue (a heritage building), and the new location is at 50 Mackenzie King Bridge very close by. Both are under construction, but even a nice photo of the old building facing the big staircase/entrance on Nicholas St. would be great. There might be some poles or netting on the ground, but it shouldn't look too distracting. So if I put my draft into Articles for Creation, you'll be able to see it? Thanks! --Siolocke (talk) 19:27, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

On 14 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ottawa Art Gallery, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Ottawa Art Gallery acquired the Firestone Collection of over 1,600 pieces of Canadian art, including landscapes by the Group of Seven, in 1992? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ottawa Art Gallery. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ottawa Art Gallery), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
