Re:Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa

I would be willing to help you get this to GA status. I'm Pentecostal, but I'm American. To be honest, I don't know much about South African Pentecostalism except what I happen to come across doing research. Most of what I used in the AFM article came by way of just finding an article or reference here and there that peaked my interest. I find the spread of Pentecostalism and the variety just fascinating.

It's good that you are a member of the church so you have first hand knowledge of things. I've contributed two articles that made it to GA status: International Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Assemblies of God USA. I'm not sure if there are any other Pentecostal churches which have made it to GA status. You might want to read those for ideas as to what a GA on a Pentecostal church might look like. Also we probably want to look at the Wikipedia:Good article criteria to see where the areas where we need to work on.

I think the beliefs section could be explored in more detail. I think the history section is could explain exactly what being identified as the "Fourth Afrikaans Church" actually means (today among whites does the AFM appeal more towards English speakers or Afrikaners?) and also explain better the relationship with the Zionist Churches. We probably need to go into more details concerning the racial situation of the church today. Today, what is the social situation of the church: is it known as a middle class, rich, or poor church? Also, church demographics: this information may or may not be available but if it is it needs to be in the article. I think more information about the AFM international and the South African church's role in that body. Also, there is a trend in American classical Pentecostal denominations of a lessening in "Pentecostal distinctives" like speaking in tongues. Are these sorts of trends present in the AFM?

Thanks for this Ltwin. During the next couple of weeks I will find the info and also look at your two articles. As an aside, I agree with you that classical Pentecostalism is being watered down. Speaking in tongues is receiving far less emphasis than when I was a child. Mainstream Pentecostal churches are becoming much more seeker sensitive. The same holds for healing. If we take the AFM for example, they where characterised by healing services etc. Some commentator said their services were more like being in a hospital than a service. Thanks again for your help . Yes, I definitely notice that many classical Pentecostal churches seem to no longer want the Spirit to move as he wants. A lot of it is understandable: fear of abuse and excess. But the reaction against abuse and embarrassment has resulted in many churches just ignoring Pentecostal doctrine. I think the loss of the gifts of the Spirit in the historical Pentecostal churches is the big elephant in the room of the Pentecostal Movement. On the bright side, there are independent Pentecostal churches who still value letting the Spirit move freely, I attend one. In our church, you regularly hear congregants worshiping in tongues and messages in tongues are given on a fairly regular basis. Other gifts are in evidence to.

By the way, nice touch adding the photo of the founders. Images are always helpful. Would you happen to have any others, perhaps an image of an AFM church or some sort of worship service or outreach, maybe an affiliated school. Anything could help. Ltwin (talk) 10:55, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey again. I just looked over it again. Everything looks fine. However, the lead section looks a little thin. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section says:

The lead should be able to stand alone as a concise overview. It should define the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is interesting or notable, and summarize the most important points—including any prominent controversies. The emphasis given to material in the lead should roughly reflect its importance to the topic, according to reliable, published sources, and the notability of the article's subject is usually established in the first few sentences. Significant information should not appear in the lead if it is not covered in the remainder of the article.

Looking for your input and editorial help on the New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI) page

Hi Shiningwolf, I am writing to ask if you might take a look at the NCMI page. I was hoping to find a couple experienced fair and unbiased editors who have worked on this kind of wiki page to help improve this page. I see that you are quite familiar with the Church in the South African and African context. I am a new editor and I am also a member of the NCMI international team. I have explained my relationship to NCMI in my user page. The page is in very rough shape. It contains much incorrect, misleading and even defamatory information. I started to work on it and found it to be a very daunting task. Please read the NCMI talk page, my talk page and the talk page of the majority editor of the page (Sigeng). I don't think I did everything right starting out, partly because I was so shocked at some of the disturbing information on the page. I am hoping that you might look over everything and if you feel you can contribute to improving the page, please do. I have escalated some of the problems to the administration team, but it still needs editors that can work toward consensus and solve some of the problems on the page. @ShiningWolf:Thanks for your interest in editing the NCMI page. Things are settling down over there, and I am learning a lot about how not to communicate with editors. It seems some of my initial zeal and a lack of understanding on best practices contributed to some of the problems. I have been reading lots and thinking through the advice a number of editors have given me. I have needed to adjust my approach in a number of areas. Some of the most valuable advice has been in dealing with issues/edits one at a time and not in large "walls of text" that tend to frustrate editors and discourage others from entering into the process. Another is making sure that my discussion errs on the side of kindness, honor and civility and rather than focusing on behavior, focus on content. Another is to seek consensus. To do that we would need to have a few editors involved. If you are still willing, I would really appreciate your involvement. Let me know if you are interested.
