the Rick Sanchez (journalist) bio - dis-proportionately biased to emphasize the career controversies

hi ScottishFinnishRadish- I edited the Rick Sanchez (journalist) bio because it was, in my opinion, very dis-proportionately biased to emphasize the career controversies. ” i.e. that the CNN “firing” is recapped, in a bio that comes in at 1,865 words total, 1,039 are devoted to the “termination and aftermath.” In a bio that covers a journalist' 40 year long career, around 55% of the content should not hyper-focus on one incident that was barely in the news for about a month. Davetheirishguy (talk) 19:11, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

(by talk reader) @Davetheirishguy: Your edits to Rick Sanchez (journalist) look like a whitewash. Wholesale changes like that need to be from a consensus on the article talk page, unless you can somehow prove the content you removed was libelous. If sources report that Sanchez was up to no good, that's what the article will say. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:17, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
I understand, thank you for the patience, I'm new to this- up until now I mostly just made small changes and edits to pages. I will go back and try to make it more balanced. Davetheirishguy (talk) 12:35, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
Removing it all entirely isn't the right way to handle that, and if I recall you also removed his time at RT. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:09, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
I agree now. The reason I removed RT is because the way it is presented, which is that it is mentioned in the 2nd sentence of the page and then again in the 5th sentence of the 2nd paragraph. Clearly (to me anyway) it is presented in that manner in order to put an emphasis on something that is both not a positive part of Sanchez career but also not a significantly important part. It should be mentioned but not in the lede like that. Davetheirishguy (talk) 12:45, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Hey just put my own time into links and I did do the 317 last sheculad service so your saying that people own time on it dose not count? 84.66.226.100 (talk) 11:15, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Only WP:Reliable sources count. Not to say you're lying, but this is the internet. Anyone can say anything, so we require information to be backed up by a reliable source. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:16, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Copy vio

Thanks for spotting and tagging Draft:Self-Service advertising as a copyright violation, I tried earwig and found nothing? [1] Theroadislong (talk) 12:47, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

I removed all the text, try this, which shows the diff before I removed everything. Also, based on the logs it looks to be the same as the draft that ReaperEternal deleted for copyvio and advertising. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
There was also a lot ripped from here which didn't show up in earwig. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:51, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Ahh right, well done. Theroadislong (talk) 13:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, glad to help. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:06, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Draft article

Hi @ScottishFinnishRadish. I see you have also reviewed this article multiple times. The user who created the article is showing no signs of improvement to the article even after it being declined four times. I came to ask you for your personal opinion on the article. My opinion is to just reject the article, because a five-sentence article isn't nearly notable enough for its own article. Thanks, Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 16:10, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Give it a little while. If I can find time I might rescue it, since there is probably enough coverage to establish notability. There are four reasonable sources now, so let me see if I can dig up anything else and throw a reasonable stub together. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:24, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 16:27, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Urban Versis 32, I take it back. Not enough there yet. The Monitor source, which is the only really good one, is copied all over the place, but that doesn't help with notability. [2][3][4][5]. I don't even know if the Monitor is where it originated. I put all of the best sources I could find in a list in the draft, and there's just not enough there. Two interviews, on in Germany which gives a bit of notability. The one copied profile, and then brief (but positive) coverage in some reviews isn't going to cut it. Do you agree? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
I agree wholly. Do you think we should just reject it? Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 17:53, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
I think so, yeah. There's not much there that will be lost anyway. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:54, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Alright, I'll reject it.
About those other sources, it's sad how when one news source writes an article, all these other websites copy it. Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 17:55, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
I've seen that often in African topics. I don't think copyright is as big a deal, or at least there is no effective enforcement mechanism in most African nations. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:01, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I see what you mean. Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 18:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

RFC close

Hi ScottishFinnishRadish. Thank for closing this RFC. About the part in your closing comments where you write "while not refuting or addressing any of the policy based issues brought up by the opposition" - did you see my comment in that RFC refuting the policy based issues brought up by the opposition? Alex-h (talk) 18:31, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

I did, and I probably should have dropped the "addressing" language, or worded things differently. Your response on NPOV wasn't a great refutation, as NPOV says that we should be providing the information by weight found in sources. Sources covering the supporters also cover the detractors, so keeping one and not the other is an issue. Same with the DUE issue, which is really the same as NPOV. The WP:V issue also holds water (although, it's more NPOV/DUE), and your reply ...it implies what it says: ""Others criticized the delisting, including Iran state television." doesn't address why their criticism is weighed more than others.
Even setting that aside, there was still no consensus for the change in the discussion, as far as I could read. I have no problem setting aside my close and letting someone else go for it, if you believe the close as in error. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:57, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
FWIW, I would endorse the closure; I can't justify any outcome besides "no consensus". Vanamonde (Talk) 21:09, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you ScottishFinnishRadish for your clear explanation. For the record, more than anything I’m just trying to understand this. So are you saying that the proposal maybe lacked more references to the criticism of the delisting (or, maybe, less references to the supporters of the delisting)? By the way, do you think that the current version in the article is fine, or could it benefit from copy-editing? Alex-h (talk) 15:19, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
I'm saying that the opposition citing the removal of criticisms and shift of focus was better argued and more convincing than your rebuttal, and it appeared that it was also sufficient to sway someone else's opinion as well. Closing a close RFC requires judging the strength of arguments, and an argument swaying another user is a good sign the point is strong. I made no judgement on the writing or sourcing of the proposal itself, and I also didn't read the page as-is so my close would be based solely on the discussion, rather than my own views of the content. I have no opinion on the current wording, and haven't read it. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:21, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Wild rabbits

I have found rabbits such as [7] and [8]. They pop up from time to time over certain areas I manage. Is there a quick way to tell if any two are related by blood? Vacosea (talk) 12:00, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Not really, but if they're geographically close, it's not unlikely that they're related. Rabbits are notorious inbreeders. Why are you concerned about the relation? If you were interested in capturing and breeding them, you can inbreed them for a couple generations before worrying about any problems cropping up. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:06, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Isn't that convenient if you are not 100% confident. Sometimes they give off a clue [9], chewing away at random boards [10][11] of their picking [12][13], even making the news [14][15][16]. Rabbit holes can run deep if you happen to come across one, and the little bits that mark the burrow may not be there again the next time since they like to stay clean. Vacosea (talk) 13:14, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
I don't have a ton of experience with that in particular, but if they're acting the same you can always gather up all the evidence and bring it to the exterminators. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:43, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
I'm just wondering whether this exchange is actually about rabbits or is some kind of coded exchange about a suspected sockpuppet? Alexbrn (talk) 15:57, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
I didn't pick up on the sock puppet stuff until their second post, but it's a shame to waste a good coded exchange. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:05, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Ha - I hadn't actually clicked the links and thought I was making a wry joke! Obviously have been doing too much Wikipedia. Alexbrn (talk) 16:08, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
What really cooks my noodle is the thought that at least some of the random letter vandalism/test edits are one time pad communications passed along in the baseline noise of Wikipedia. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:13, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Yikes - make me wonder why such stuff isn't suppressed. It's hardly a benefit to keep it in the history ... Alexbrn (talk) 16:19, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Probably just the sheer volume of it, I assume. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:20, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Felt as though the joke might fall a little flat at the AfD

Re this edit. If you strike this article down, it shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.</obiwan> Sideswipe9th (talk) 01:33, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

I feel bad about that whole AfD. I think what was needed was dispassionate people disconnected from editing the topic area. Instead we got 23,000 words, with about half by three users, thus scaring away anyone not already invested in the topic who would want to read the arguments and offer their opinion. As it stands there are ~14 keeps and ~14 deletes out of ~37 !votes, with the balance falling to draftify or redirect. I really think Newimpartial and The void century did themselves far more harm than good, with collectively almost 40% of talk page size between them. I know that the huge amount of the same people making the same arguments kept me away from trying to catch up on the discussion and add my opinion. Unfortunately, no one seemed to heed my request. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:25, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

I'm sorry about that. I really am trying to stay out of it now. The void century (talk) 13:50, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

No worries. It's very easy to fall into the trap of responding to every point you see as incorrect or that you want to clarify. There comes a time, though, when it's just people who disagree with each other disagreeing back and forth which only shuts out uninvolved opinions and creates animosity between those that disagree. Just remember that reasonable, intelligent people disagree on things all the time, and often they can't convince each other that they're right. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:22, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Plotinus Article

Hi

I was only working on the 'Biography' topic, not any other topic. If other topics are in breach of copyright then delete them. The biography is certainly not copyrighted anywhere. The reverted Article is still in breach of copyright. The topic 'Biography' is not. Darylprasad (talk) 14:39, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Were you accused of violating copyright? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:47, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
No I wasn't, but the reverted version is still in breach of copyright. It has been there for a long time. Long before i started editing the article. And why not just delete the infinging text. Why take out all the 'Biography' and 'Selected bibliography'? I will take out the old infringing material, that was not written by me, and save everybody some timeDarylprasad (talk) 14:53, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
We should keep any discussion on Prax's talk page. I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of what's going on. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:55, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Rock balancing RfC

Many thanks for the closure there!

Your comment that it "isn't an actual RFC" concerns me, though. How should I have framed something like that? I was following the lead of the neutral and boring Should the "History" section contain a photograph of the ship? example at WP:RFC, and assumed that an A/B question and yes/no followup was the way to go, that those were three proposals to pick from ("it's just vandalism", "it's art and vandalism but that's all we should say", "it's art and vandalism, also we should write more about how it works"). Lord Belbury (talk) 15:02, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

It should have had some specific examples of the opening prose, which would serve much better to keep the discussion focused. That's one of the reasons you ended up with a sprawling discussion, rather than a cohesive RFC. Getting to a general point like "it shouldn't be just vandalism" is probably going to lead to more arguments and RFCs down the line. I'm also not saying it's just how you created it that made it "not an actual RFC", but how the whole thing played out. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:10, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
Also, Should this article define rock balancing as a type of vandalism, or as a recreational/artistic activity which has drawn that criticism? is a separate question from Should it include any content about people's reasons for balancing rocks, methods of doing so where the process isn't obvious, notable artists who have done so, and the international contests held for it? and the second question is quite broad. It's almost begging for a sprawling discussion about if a publisher is too niche to use their books, or if one specific story from a source is too "churnalistic" to use. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:13, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
I guess I was assuming that "if adequately sourced" and so on could be taken as read, but I see what you mean. Alright, thanks again, will keep all of that in mind if I ever need to raise another RfC. --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:33, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
Just to be clear, I didn't mean this as a slight on you. I was reacting to it being a meandering discussion, rather than a focused discussion. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:37, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
All good. --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:55, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

ERT format

Hello, I am away and just noticed that all the buttons (Done/Unclear...) are aligned right only using half of the available space and not formatted correctly. Just wondering if this was just an issue for me or you aswell since you use the tool quite regularly. Thanks, Terasail[✉️] 15:03, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Terasail, it started a few days ago, at least. I had assumed you were working on formatting, so I didn't mention it. I see it on desktop, and when using the desktop site with my phone. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:06, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
@ScottishFinnishRadish Yeah, unfortunately not, I could fix that. Since I am not at my main PC with my test versions of the script on it I am not really in a position to troubleshoot the problem but it appears that OOUI was updated 4 days ago by someone at wikimedia and it is the only thing that I can think of to have caused this. I will try to get to the bottom of this but I might not be able to fix/come up with a solution to this until next week. Terasail[✉️] 15:35, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
It's not a big deal, just a formatting bug, tool still works as intended so a week until resolution isn't a problem. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:37, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Notability of train stations

You have closed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Notability#Notability_of_train_stations. In doing so you have not included all the subsections in the discussion. Question is: did you read them? Djflem (talk) 17:48, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Yes, I did. However, I reopened those sections as there was still a possibility of productive discussion from them, and they weren't tied to the closure. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:51, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
How is it possible to make a closure or decide that they weren't part of the closure when they clearly were part of the the discussion? Is that then a partial closure or a complete closure? How does that work? You either close or you don't close, no? Djflem (talk) 21:05, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
A discussion on a roadmap of how to proceed with the articles, and a discussion of possible merge targets are seperate enough from the survey where I'm not concerned about leaving them open. Discussing how to handle merging the articles is productive, and doesn't have any bearing on the inherent notability of train stations. Discussing how to handle train station articles in the future is also productive, even more so with the closure expressing the clear consensus that there is no inherent notability of train stations. You can use the discussion about what type of train stations it applies to (clearly all, per the consensus of the survey) as a jumping off point to see where a SNG may have consensus. I'm unsure of what the issue is. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:12, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
It's procedural. I find it sloppy to archive only portions of a discussion to create a 'historical record" that is incomplete. Djflem (talk) 19:12, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
The entire section will still be archived. I don't see any issue with closing part of a section and allowing productive discussion to continue. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:04, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Nice to see you back. It's been a busy summer so far, and it's getting closer to harvest and preservation time, so only going to get busier. Hopefully I have some time soon to do some more real article writing. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:15, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Harvest and preservation? Of what, if you don't mind me asking? — Ixtal ( T / C ) Join WP:FINANCE! 00:19, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Vegetables, mostly. Tomatoes, potatoes, squash, peppers, cucumbers, beans, radishes, beets, and I'm sure I'm missing some. Assuming for a gallon of salsa, 4 gallons of tomato sauce, 6 gallons of tomato soup, two gallons of hot sauce and three gallons of cucumber pickles. Probably going to pickle a fake amount of the radishes too. Already harvested garlic and onions, and the first batch of carrots and radishes. There's a lot of smaller stuff too, marinated peppers, squash soup, stuff like that. Can it all and put it in the basement so my wife and I have our own food year round.
Already did my last batch of rabbits for the summer, so I'll be breeding them again in about a month so we can stock up another 30lbs of meat too. And hopefully I'll have a lucky year hunting. If I can harvest two deer I won't have to buy any meat for quite a while. A dozen or so pheasant would be nice, too. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:30, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Oh, and honey. Hoping to get another 40 to 60lbs from my hives before winter. Already got 25lbs. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:33, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

With all the attention I've paid to RFAs this month I got to thinking that I don't really know your thoughts on adminship. I tried to search your talk archives but didn't find a previous discussion on the topic. Would you ever consider running? — Ixtal ( T / C ) Join WP:FINANCE! 11:24, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

I've had some discussions in private about it, and although I don't think I'd pass, I'm not terribly averse. At least there would be someone else around to block Jinnifer socks. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:29, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
To paraphrase Aragorn, you have my support! I think you'd be great with the mop! Sideswipe9th (talk) 18:41, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
AND MY AXE! Andre🚐 18:49, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate the votes of confidence, but I'd be interested in hearing what done of those I've had disagreements with in the past think. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:41, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
Unclear national allegiance. Unlikely to be a radish (liar). Creates profane articles. Openly an arc-enemy of a sitting admin. 0/10. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:47, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

Curses!

This is not nearly as exciting as when Billy Halleck, a successful, arrogant and morbidly obese lawyer, is distracted while driving across town by his wife Heidi giving him a handjob and runs over and kills an elderly Romani woman.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:07, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

That was where I was planning on going originally, but I wanted to avoid the Romani curse trope. Normally I'm witty enough to come up with something decent, but my wits failed me that time. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:11, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
To be honest, I think the curse is on the people who take me to ANI, in the last month or so it's been what, 5 times and they all wound up indeffed :P Maybe I am the curse PRAXIDICAE🌈 22:14, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
I don't know about that. You still have to deal with the nonsense. The only difference for them is they're ranting at you instead of the person working the drive thru at Arby's. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:29, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
Service workers need a break. I'm glad to do it. PRAXIDICAE🌈 22:30, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
And people think you're volunteering just to work on an encyclopedia. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:32, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Which voice to read this in?

For this comment, I can't quite tell whether I should read it in Anakin Skywalker's voice, or Crocodile Dundee, or other Crocodile Dundee's voice. Maybe all three at once? Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:43, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

You can read everything I write either as Zapp Brannigan or Mark from Peep Show. That was more of a Zapp comment, whereas this is classic Mark. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:48, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
If you start saying "A little lower, lower, lower, a lot lower" to me, I may start to get ideas... Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:50, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
I did make it with a hot alien babe. And in the end, is that not what man has dreamt of since first he looked up at the stars? Kif, I’m asking you a question. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:03, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Ugh. All this talk is enough to make a woman turn neutral you know. Sideswipe9th (talk) 00:05, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
I am now, this instant, missing my chance. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:13, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

made me laugh

your edit here made me giggle since it is the talk page, but Ollie's revert is correct, the IP is an LTA. PRAXIDICAE🌈 20:05, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Yeah, I clicked the wrong canned response from the rollbacks I normally use, but as you said, the revert is correct. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:07, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Closing typo

Hi. I nearly fixed it for you, was sorely tempted, but I know it's not strictly OK to alter it ... at WT:N#Notability of train stations you've got There clear is consensus that train stations have no inherent notability, which doesn't quite work, so I wondered if this: There clearly is consensus that train stations have no inherent notability or this: There is clear consensus that train stations have no inherent notability might be what you meant. Sorry, I know it sounds fussy and nitpicking of me but I just really really wanted to fix it ... sorry! Cheers DBaK (talk) 20:59, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

It was certainly one or the other, or both. I think at this point it's clear what it means, and not worth the effort of fixing. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:39, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Selena Gomez’s picture

Hey, I hope you’re having a great day. Would you mind changing Selena Gomez’s current page picture. I mean it’s a screenshot of a video of her talking. There’s better pictures out there. Not to mention that Selena’s stans are really mad about it. So please change it to maybe one of her recent red carpet looks. I hope you take this into account. Thank you. 185.191.249.39 (talk) 01:16, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

We can't use any picture we'd like. The picture needs to be released with an acceptable license. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 09:07, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Nozim Babadjanov edit

Here is the source: https://www.sportskeeda.com/amp/indian-football/news-i-league-transfers-real-kashmir-fc-set-rope-tajikistan-midfielder-nozim-babadzhanov Can you please revert your revision? Dollarsign14 (talk) 15:48, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

If it's sourced, feel free to revert it back. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:51, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) sportskeeda is not an acceptable source for anything. PICKLEDICAE🥒 15:52, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
If you find yourself up my way anytime I've got a few gallons of dill pickles, everything but the vinegar and salt from my garden. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:03, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
