Crohn's disease

Thanks for the barnstar, Samir. Actually I stole the idea from Tourette's syndrome. I hope it will help Crohn's become a FA soon. --apers0n 06:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Disembarc in Tsingtao

I found it by entering "Tsingtao" in Firefox's search function and clicking "Find Next" a couple of times. The offending portion is in section (?) 30, and reads, "Chinan and Tsingtao were captured during December 1937-January 1938. Japanese naval forces actually seized Tsingtao before Army troops arrived (January 10, 1938)." NatusRoma | Talk 07:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi

Hi Samir,

Thanks for dropping by. I am currently busy with my studies (exam and all), so not much active nowadays. Even you seem to be on a wikibreak. Hopefully I will return to full activity by December. Take care, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 09:13, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi all. The subject itself is certainly worthy of an article, but is far too technical as it's written; it also has some minor POV issues. It could use more than a little polishing, but it's well within notability standards. – ClockworkSoul 00:57, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to delete this as soon as read. Why did you delete the Encyclopedia Dramatica page and yet not the Uncyclopedia page?

They are both parodies of Wikipedia, which badly needs parodies. Why is it important to delete the page for Encyclopedia Dramatica but not Uncyclopedia? Sure, ED relies heavily on bad taste humour, and celebrates WP vandals, but shouldn't people know this? --Zaorish 16:02, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Stop hassling people. An Encyclopedia Dramatica article is not appropriate and will never be allowed. Samir deleted Encyclopedia dramatica, not Encyclopedia Dramatica (if you got the case right, he'd be able to find it) and he was right to do so. If you have a problem with this, take it back to ArbCom. Sarah Ewart 01:14, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't think I'm hassling anybody. Today is the first day I've brought this up. Furthermore, neither the protection and deletion of the ED page (I think) or the talk page (I know for sure) is justifiable according to Wikipedia rules. Hence why discussion logs and voting logs were deleted and why there is no place for Wikipedians to bring up this subject for discussion amongst themselves.

I don't know if there's a reason for the deletion of the main page, but if there is I'd like to see it. And either way I'd like to know why Wikipedians are being kept from discussing this.

Also, WTF is this about it not being appropriate? If you mean content of the site, since when is appropriateness of content reason for exclusion from Wikipedia? The suicide forest 01:43, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is the entire contents of the article Samir deleted: "Encyclopedia dramatica was a parody of Wikipedia until wikipedia made it personal and deleted their encyclopedia dramatica page." That's it. Regardless of the ArbCom ruling, Samir was entirely correct to speedy that article. It was unencyclopedic rubbish. I don't know why you think this deletion was outside policy. Please also see the findings in the ArbCom ruling [1]. Logs cannot be deleted...I have no idea why you would think they can be. You have your answers, now please, stop hassling admins for doing their jobs. Sarah Ewart 01:53, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not hassling admins, and I agree that that article was rubbish and should have been deleted. However, he also protected it meaning I or someone else can't write an in-depth decent article. The question is, why the protect?

Also, I didn't come here looking for a fight. In fact, I don't have anything against samir and he seems like a good admin that is trying to do his job. I'm asking why he made his decision, and hoping as an admin he will share his logive. I have no idea why you're so up in arms about this. I am merely trying to find out why such a prominent site on the internet is not being allowed to have anything about it posted. I did NOT expect such a hostile reaction from anyone about this. I am merely trying to find out the reasoning behind ED's removal. This is the first I've EVER seen anything relating to this. It seems ED is blocked due to a lack of notability back when the article was first created, which has since changed. And while it's nice to fianlly see some reasons, it would be very nice to be able to ask those involved their reasons for doing what they did without having an overzealous user jump down my throat about so-called "hassling". It would also be really nice to actually be able to discuss this matter with other users via a talk page, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. So please back down and let Samir speak for himself. I and many others want to know what he has to say.

The suicide forest 03:18, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Samir has asked to be left alone. Please abide by his wishes. And it is a bit hard to assume good faith when you admit on your user page that you're a troll. Sarah Ewart 03:25, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sarah's got it right, The suicide forest. I deleted a three line rant-piece. I have no idea why the Encyclopedia Dramatica article was deleted... presumably there was an AfD. Frankly, I think you know more about it than me. -- Samir धर्म 05:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Need your help again

Hey Samir, hope all is well. I just uploaded an image on wikimedia commons (a photograph I had taken a while back). I was wondering what licence I had to give it to be able to use it in an article on wikipedia. Here's a link: [2]. Many thanks! Cheers. Cribananda 05:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also, can you look at Bharatanatyam again when you get a chance? If you remember, I spoke to you regarding the images on that page once already. Also, I don't want to remove all the images, just some of them unless somebody is going to use them to explain the different postures. Thanks. Cribananda 19:38, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

A colleague and I are conducting a study on health wikis. We are looking at how wikis co-construct health information and create communities. We noticed that you are a frequent contributor to Wikipedia on health topics.

Please consider taking our survey here.

This research will help wikipedia and other wikis understand how health information is co-created and used.

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

Note from Editor's Desk
  • Welcome to the December 2006 edition of our newsletter. Time flies past like matter into the black hole. It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. In the world of Wikipedia where quality counts than quantity, we have come a long way. We've made better than 'nothing', to say the least, and even that is an achievement. I take this opportunity to thank everyone including those who have dotted the i's and crossed the t's.
  • As before, we'd like to stress, this is your newsletter, and we want you to be part of it as well. Provide us with news tips. User Jance

Samir,

I have left a fairly strong note for user Jance (whom I only came across a week or so ago). I do not understand why she thinks you blocking the article is a partisan act. It is a bit frustrating because her argumentative style undermines her points (some of which are better than others).
