Thanks Ryan. I was going to make the same edit. Jeff Noloader (talk) 00:01, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Crypto++ Edit (FIPS Compliance)

OpenSSL suffered an indignity from those assholes.... Can't I have just a small pulpit to get back at them ;)?

Hey, I like the new infobox. The old one was from OpenSSL's page. You might want to update them also (I did not want to appear to be a major Crypto++ contributor, and then mess with their page).

Gotta go. Microsoft patch tuesday. My box might spontaneously combust or reboot at any moment....

Crypto++ (Thanks for all the help)

Hi Ryan,

I think the article shaped up nicely. Thanks for all the help. If I can ever assist you with some crypto work, please don't hesitate to ask.

PS, <ref>{{cite web...}}</ref> has been applied to all references, so I believe the reference template warning can go away.

Jeff Noloader (talk) 03:42, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ryan,

I did not want to split the conversation (between two talk pages), but I also wanted to address any possible copyright issues immediately.

Anyway, the 'meat' of the reply is on talk page where you placed the original comment User:noloader.

Crypto++ Table (Release Versions)

I went in behind you and tried to figure out how 6 = 5, and came to the conclusion that 8 meant something....

My neglect

RN, please accept my apologies for neglecting your post on my talk page for so long! It is wonderful to see you back, and even better to see you worked on Microsoft again. Some things change, some things stay the same-- AS and autism are under control, but the editors who did the best work there are both gone :-( It is great to hear from you again! FFD comment request

You were the image reviewer at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/The Body (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)/archive1 which was promoted to FA on 25 August 2010. This included a review of the infobox image File:Buffy5x16.jpg. I am in a debate at Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2012 April 15#File:Pilot .28The Cosby Show.29 monopoly lesson.png, which is a debate over the infobox image for a television episode. The reviewer believes that the image currently violates WP:NFCC. I was hoping you might weigh in on this debate.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:18, 17 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notice of change

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Million Award

  The Million Award
For your contributions to bring Microsoft (estimated annual readership: 2,471,000) to Featured Article status, I hereby present you the Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers. -- Khazar2 (talk) 03:06, 28 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Million Award is a new initiative to recognize the editors of Wikipedia's most-read content; you can read more about the award and its possible tiers (Quarter Million Award, Half Million Award, and Million Award) at Wikipedia:Million Award. You're also welcome to display this userbox:

This editor won the Million Award for bringing Microsoft to Featured Article status.

If I've made any error in this listing, please don't hesitate to correct it; if for any reason you don't feel you deserve it, please don't hesitate to remove it; if you know of any other editor who merits one of these awards, please don't hesitate to give it; if you yourself deserve another award from any of the three tiers, please don't hesitate to take it! -- Khazar2 (talk) 03:06, 28 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm... interesting idea. Often niche topics tend to be easier to work with, so a little encouragement to those editing the more high-traffic articles certainly doesn't hurt much. Ryan Norton 15:21, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Undeletion Request

Hi Ryan, I hope this is the correct process for requesting an Undeletion Request for an article that was deleted way back in 2005. This the first time I've used wikipedia so please excuse my mistakes in the process.

I'm the singer/guitarist for an original band called Kanvas Grey, we are from Melbourne Australia and have been performing, writing and recording original music since 2001. I'm not exactly sure why our page was deleted back in 2005 because we had released an album called Hope which was released through Australia in stores and online in digital and physical form. Here is an Australia record industry website that shows our album (http://www.aria.com.au/pages/ArchivedAustralianReleases-August2004.htm). We've had a bunch of other releases since then

2004 - So Much To Learn (EP) 2006 - Unless You Fall (LP) 2008 - Self Titled (LP)

All of these have physical cds and digital releases through The Orchard internationally https://itunes.apple.com/au/artist/kanvas-grey/id194065308 http://search.theorchard.com/release/669910095287/Kanvas%20Grey/Kanvas%20Grey

Below is the deletion page discussion

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kanvas_Grey&action=edit&redlink=1

Are you able to help with getting the Kanvas Grey page back up and running as we are soon to release our 4th studio album later this year.

Thank you so much for your time. Cheers Ben Benthomas1975 (talk) 23:42, 17 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Ryan Norton. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Ryan Norton.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
