Ha! Many complain about how slow it is, given it is all volunteer responses/resolution to issues, etc. can take time. Glad this was all wrapped up fast, though. Also, striking out my initial notice. Feel free to remove it entirely. S0091 (talk) 18:15, 5 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Overlinking edit

Hi RI95, and welcome to Wikipedia. I have just noticed your edit to David Marr (journalist). You created blue links to the words journalist, journalism, author, social commentator, law, Australian politics, censorship, mass media, barrister, solicitor, psychiatrist, violence, culture, drug and law reform. You appear to be under the impression that where a word or expression is used in an article, and another article of that name exists, a blue link should be created to lead readers to that other article. If that is your impression it is incorrect. Wikipedia discourages the practice of overlinking – use of excessive and unnecessary blue links. Please have a look at MOS:OVERLINK. For example, MOS:OVERLINK identifies a number of areas that are usually not linked – common occupations is one of them.

A useful test is to ask yourself whether a person reading the article is likely to already have an understanding of the word or expression you are contemplating linking. For example, if you ask yourself whether a person reading the article David Marr (journalist) is likely to already have an understanding of the words journalist and journalism, you will probably decide that such a reader doesn’t need a blue link to either of those words. Similarly, a person reading about David Marr is likely to have no need of a blue link to help them comprehend law, Australian politics, censorship or mass media.

Wikipedia relies on inciteful and diligent new Users like yourself so please keep up the good work. Dolphin (t) 09:37, 3 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Anti-nationalists edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Anti-nationalists requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

per WP:G4 - previously deleted category recreated without justification

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Disambiguation link notification for November 9 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Galloping Foxley, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Routine (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Please consider applying edit summaries edit

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Please preview, consolidate, and summarize edit

Hello, and thank you for your efforts here. Below are a few editing suggestions to make it easier for you and others to collaborate on the encyclopedia. Please preview, consolidate, and summarize your edits:

  • Try to consolidate your edits, at least at the section level, to avoid cluttering the page's edit history; this makes it easier for your fellow editors to understand your intentions, and makes it easier for those monitoring activity on the article.
    • The show preview button (beside the "publish changes" button) is helpful for this; use it to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits.
  • Please remember to explain each edit with an edit summary (box above the "publish changes" button).

Thanks in advance for considering these suggestions. Eric talk 15:01, 28 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please consider signing your posts; thank you. edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 16:41, 28 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

The problem has been explained to you by many users over the past 9 months, all of whose advice you have apparently chosen not to heed. And you have received many bot notifications regarding careless linking to disambiguation pages. Your editing pattern is disruptive and creates a lot of clean-up work for your colleagues here, to name just a few: @Dolphin51, Presearch, Pdebee, Editor2020, Deacon Vorbis, KConWiki, Praxidicae, and Robert.Allen: The next step may be for us to visit WP:ANI or WP:AIV. Eric talk 15:53, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Comment: Since I got pinged on this comment, let me mention that I see no reason to think that the above examples are not Good Faith Edits. I will concur that using some care when linking to common phrases that could be disambig pages is a good idea, and also being aware of which categories are sub-categories of others is important. But I want to encourage RI95 to continue their interest in Wikipedia editing, perhaps with some adaptations to specific types of edits they work on. (I have adapted certain of my assumptions of what makes a good edit over the years, and I'm sure many others have as well). Thanks to all for their contributions. KConWiki (talk) 18:09, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but I strongly disagree. The fact that this user has not repaired links to numerous disambiguation pages, when notified by a bot, demonstrates a lack of good-faith editing. --Robert.Allen (talk) 19:16, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I assure you, Robert, they were all Good Faith Edits. I am a newbie to Wikipedia editing, and no harm was ever intended.

July 2020: Warning edit

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at James Edie. Repeated disruptive editing may result in the loss of editing privileges.

You just reverted my reversion of your overlinking and overcategorizing of philosopher James Edie.
