My Photos of NYC edit

I have over 3,500 photos (hard copy) of NYC taken by myself in 2001-2003 using a Cannon EOS camera. The photos were taken using the AAIA Guide to NYC for the choice the sites to be photographed. I would like to digitalize my photos and upload them to Wikipedia. I need to buy a scanner, which make and model scanner would you recommend that I purchase? Since my photos were taken according to the exact sequence of AAIA guide, is there a potential copyright violation? Also, I will not under any circumstances loan the photos or negatives to another party, they must remain in my possession at all times.--Woogie10w (talk) 11:51, 6 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Commoners takes Pakistan edit

Hi Pharos, In my effort to introduce Wikimedia and promote Free content culture in Pakistan (where it is merely available with some local bloggers). I'm going to introduce a free web-based project similar to commons:Commons:Photo scavenger hunts in our next Karachi meetup. The purpose of such project to maximize the attention of internet community in Pakistan toward free content. We'll ask amateur and pro photographers to contribute their work (which is mostly related to current events or latest happening/events around) in our project only if they want to release it with free licenses. The same can also be used in Wikimedia's projects, wherever need. I hope the initiative would work fantastic particularly for introducing Wikimedia and free content culture in Pakistan. It would be great if you've any idea or suggestion on this? Thank you --Saqib talk 08:50, 10 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Saqib Qayyum (talkcontribs) Reply

Bot edits on Kalmyk language edit

Hi! A number of bots have been editing Kalmyk language recently, adding links to wikipedia articles in other language wikipedias. The same, of course, happens on the other wikipedias, eg the German one. I have just explained at Talk:Kalmyk_language#Articles on Kalmyk and Oirat in various Wikipedias why I hold that this is not appropriate. Unfortunately, it is difficult to argue with bots, and the basic idea behind their actions is okay, so it would probably not be feasible to modify the bots in any way. Instead, I would like to have a device that bans any bots (or if possible: only bots that create links to other wikis) from editing Kalmyk language. Is there such a thing? please help edit

My first article was deleted under a7 being noted as a company that in not notable. The article was about a law firm that chose to lease office space in a historic NYC building while others chose to leave for more modern space. My argument is that any company signing a lease under the NYC downtown plan should be recognized by Wikipedia as notable. "The Commercial Revitalization Program (CRP) was developed with the goal of rehabilitating older building stock in Lower Manhattan" Any company that helps keep historic NYC alive should be rewarded-- at the very least with mention on Wikipedia as being an important and noteworthy decision. Can you please help me get my article back up? Hotsummer 9 (talk) 22:49, 24 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of 100 Greatest African Americans edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is 100 Greatest African Americans. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/100 Greatest African Americans. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:03, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pawn Stars edit

Hi, Pharos. A newbie editor named JFKenn is adding untrue information to the Pawn Stars article. The article's edit history and my attempts to discuss the relevant policies on his Talk Page should detail the situation. In addition to citing another Wikipedia article in violation of WP:CIRCULAR, he has violated WP:Civil and WP:AGF by making inappropriate assumptions in his edit summaries, and has ignored my repeated attempts to discuss and point out these policies to him. He's new, and I've tried to be polite and friendly to him, even in admonishing him about the pertinent policies, but since he's ignoring me, someone else should step in, since I'm involved, and frequently edit the article. Can you help? Please let me know. If you need to watch the episode yourself to confirm that R. Lee Ermey is not in it, you can see it here. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 04:45, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

UI bug in geonotice edit

For the currently running Boston meetup geonotice, the two lines of the notice's text are vertically scrunched together. Presumably the bug affects any multiline geonotice. I've noted a possible solution at Wikipedia:Geonotice#Wikipedia:Meetup.2FBoston. However, a block comment in Mediawiki:Geonotice.js warns against editing the section containing the problem. Given that you've done much of the geonotice maintenance, could you take a look at this? Thanks, Emw (talk) 15:53, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Atwar Bahjat-Al Arabiya.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Atwar Bahjat-Al Arabiya.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 13:18, 24 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
