WP:GLAM/SI edit

Hey, I created a page at Wikipedia:GLAM/SI as a good central place for discussion of ideas of what we can offer to the Smithsonian. Sadads (talk) 14:13, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for adding the Article counts. I also added a list of categories related to SI. Just out of curiousity, is it possible to determine if personnel from SI are making edits to WP? Not specifically who they are just a general count from the IP? --Kumioko (talk) 17:35, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Posting photos? edit

Hi Pharos. We met at the past few NYC user group meetings. I am relatively new to Wikipedia and have posted several interesting articles about copper's antimicrobial properties. Would now like to add a few pics to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_alloys_in_aquaculture. I looked at the wiki manual and have a conceptual understanding how to do this. But it could easily take a day and much frustration to get the first one done...with all that can go wrong (got started and quickly got stuck). Do you know anyone who could walk me through how to post the first one...should take only 10 minutes or so and would be a big time saver...these things are always more difficult when one tries them for the first time. Thanx, and see you at the next meeting. Enviromet (talk) 13:54, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pharos. I wonder if Media Wizard works for Macs? I am on a Mac and I think maybe Environmet is too. Invertzoo (talk) 13:23, 30 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors at Princeton University edit

Hi Pharos,

Thanks very much to the Wikimedia New York City chapter for offering to help with the Campus Ambassador recruitment efforts! We are actively looking for qualified individuals with convenient access to the Princeton University campus. Could Wikimedia New York City make a few recommendations? We're interviewing and screening various applicants now, and would definitely like to add your recommendations to the applicant pool.

(Feel free to email me this information if you prefer: alin@wikimedia.org).

More information about the Campus Ambassador role, including qualifications, can be found at http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Campus_Ambassador.

Thank you! I look forward to hearing back from you.

Just wanted to say edit

Today is the first chance I got to be able to tell you that I appreciate your efforts in the NYC meetup conference. I imagine quite a bit of work went into it and you probably didn't get a lot of feedback. Plus, I bet we stuck you with cleaning cups and plates. I know I did. I had to leave early. So, sorry about that, but again, thanks for all the work you put into it. --Moni3 (talk) 21:05, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject Smithsonian Institution for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Also, if you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 23:50, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Q not followed by U edit

Hi. The article List of English words containing Q not followed by U was just nominated for Featured list removal candidates. It just needs a bit of work, and there are some potential references at the bottom of the article's talkpage. I'm letting a few editors who have worked on it (or commented on it) know. Thanks :) -- Quiddity (talk) 01:28, 10 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again edit

Hi Richard, thanks again for being at the fundraiser on Thursday. It was great to see you, and hopefully we'll meet again sooner rather than later. Wikipedia Takes Manhattan goal list edit

Re: Thanks for your Wikipedia Takes Manhattan planning contributions! I'd like to invite you to join us at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC on Saturday, October 16.

Thank you for the invitation. I'm happy to make a small contribution to Wikimedia New York City. The scavenger hunt is a great idea. Reading your goal list reminded me of the many articles about buildings in the Boroughs that need photographs. Can my future entries (for Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn) be appended to the list on the talk page? All these entries can serve as a stand-alone wishlist for NYC photos. As such, maybe you would prefer the information pasted into a separate page that can be stored in your project hierarchy, and/or integrated with the relatively unknown Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of architecture.

Question re finding NYC based source edit

Greeting, Pharos. I have a question, and I'll try to be brief -- I stumbled across your page looking for resources related to NYC libraries and wikipedia. Anyway, I am far from NYC, but am currently working on an article on the Sunday Mercury, an influential 19th century New York newspaper and at one time the highest circulation weekly paper in the U.S., which is currently a (sadly) missing article. As far as I can tell (let me know if there is anywhere else to look, but I already looked here), there are no online scans of this paper, and one of the few places with any sizable collection is the New York Public Library. I was wondering if there is anyone anywhere I can find that would have an interest in scanning a few mastheads and such to help create the article. Let me know if you have any thoughts, and thanks for your time!--Milowenttalkblp-r 14:20, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Not that you were worried :-), but I was able to get someone from a rare newspaper site to get me a decent scan.--Milowenttalkblp-r 16:28, 11 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4 edit

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.
