Moving pages edit

If you need to move a page, but cannot because something already exists, please get an administrator to move the page for you or list it on WP:RM. I've just moved Football (soccer) and its talk page to Association football so that the page histories are with the right pages. JDtalk 00:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

And as an administrator, I have just moved those pages back to their agreed names which have been established over many years of Wikipedia's existence. Moving pages without agreement causes a huge amount of disputation, not to take into consideration the fact that renaming "Football (soccer)" would require well over 10,000 other articles to be edited to avoid potential double-redirects which will damage the functioning of Wikipedia as a whole. Please do NOT attempt to rename this article again without obtaining widespread agreement first. -- Arwel (talk) 00:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Did you know edit

On 1 December, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Riley (motorcar), which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Sputnik program edit

Please do not move articles written in American English to titles in British English without a very good cause. Doing so is very disruptive and creates a mess for other editors to clean up. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 11:06, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Slither (2006 film edit

You moved the movie Slither from Slither (film) to Slither (2006 film). This is probably a good thing, but you did it without taking care of the many, many links that lead it it. Please try to be more careful - and if you can, go clean up the mess you made by changing the links that lead to Slither (film) referring to the 2006 film. Thanks . Shakespearian Titles edit

Please be aware that the title given in the first printed edition of a given Shakespearian play is not used as its generally-accepted or authoritative title. Firstly, the idea that the title page of an early-C17th printed work provides the work's title as it was generally used, as modern books do, is an anachronism: instead, the title-page gives information about the work to potential purchasers, and does not necessarily entail that -- then or now -- the title which it provides is the correct one. (See Gulliver's Travels for a later example.) Indeed, for many works it is incorrect to think that any single title exists: many works entered an oral culture (ie theatre) before they were published, and different names might be used between editions: the best approach is to use the generally received title, then write a section on alternative titles if you feel like it.

Secondly, the practice of putting a period after the title was a grammatical practice, in the same way that one might write 'I hate Macbeth.': one can see this usage in many other works, such as Love-Letters Between a Noble-Man and his Sister (1684) or in The Dunciad, none of which include the period.

If you look within printed works, you will see that the titles that you have been creating are not used. The contents page of the First Folio, for example, uses titles much closer to modern, general usage.

Your edits to Meter (disambiguation) edit

Please do not make disambiguation pages into redirects. Their purpose is to provide links to several pages which have the same name, to avoid confusion. Seraphimblade 02:46, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The issue is that it is a cut and paste move. Page moves must be done using the move tab--see Help:Moving a page. Otherwise, the page history is dissociated from its page. —Centrxtalk • 03:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

In this case, too, the pages should be left where they are , because "meter" is a peculiar naming conflict. —Centrxtalk • 03:06, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your page moves edit

I can see you have been warned about this many times. Please do not move pages against consensus. According to Wikipedia's Manual of Style, pages use whatever national variety of English they were started with, which means that flatulence humor should not be moved to the British spelling of humour. If you move a page again against consensus of policy I will block you for disruption. Natalie 03:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

War of the Worlds again! edit

Please do not move pages without first consulting the article's talk page. I moved H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds (2005 film) and H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds (2005 film) back to their previous places because the disambiguation of various War of the Worlds article titles was discussed in good detail on The War of the Worlds (disambiguation) talk page with the two aforementioned films where it was agreed that adding the year is an appropriate qualifier. It took a lot of work and ultimately an adminstrator to correct your previous moves, so please take others into consideration. If you feel differently on the naming issues, bring it up on the disambiguation or film article talk pages; otherwise, any ignorance of explaining your actions will be reverted. --Bacteria 12:08, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Lg86383-12.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Lg86383-12.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Wicker Man page move edit

I approve of this move, but you should not have done a cut-and-paste. See Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves to fix it. —Ashley Y 05:41, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, please do not move any pages by cutting and pasting the contents as this splits the page history which is required to maintain attribution under the terms of the licence the site uses (the GFDL). In future, please use the 'move page' function as this automatically moves the page history along with the text of the page. If the page already exists at the destination, please list the move at Wikipedia:Requested moves where an administrator will help with the move. If you have performed any other cut and paste moves, no matter how old, that have not yet been fixed, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen so an administrator can fix them. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, mattbr 12:47, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

So tell, me why you should not be blocked for this edit? I can see you've been here for a while and appear to know the difference between editing and vandalism, so it begs the question as to why you'd offer such a bone-headed "edit." I welcome your response. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 18:52, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

You don't have to care what I think, but as you behavior - if it continues - gives me or anyone else the ability to report your vandal behavior and have you blocked, your time would be better spent not acting surprised and offended. Perhaps it would be better spent not vandalising pages. Okey-doke sunshine? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 16:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure, sure. Tell, me, how long were you blocked for vandalism last time? Listen carefully: I don't care what you edit, so long as you do it within the scope of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Every single time you make a bone-headed series of edits like the ones that resulted in your block, I will be there to revert it and report you. Now, if you edit like a grown-up, you and I will - joyfully - never interact, and you can get back to your Driver's Ed and popping zits in the mirror. I think we're done here.
