The Schwartz

A tag has been placed on The Schwartz, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Cool Bluetalk to me 12:14, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of List of fictional video games

An editor has nominated List of fictional video games, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional video games and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:59, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Something Upstairs

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Something Upstairs, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. License tagging for Image:CreativeBarnstar.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:CreativeBarnstar.PNG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:06, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

1. Okay, then why did you attempt to get a policy page deleted (via a method intended strictly for articles, no less)?
2. Please do not strike talk page messages written by others (which creates the false appearance that this was done by the author). If you disagree with such a message, simply respond with the proper indentation. —David Levy 21:52, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA

Your RfA was transcluded today onto the main RfA page, Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. I removed it because there was no candidate acceptance statement, making it malformed. It didn't seem like something you were seriously considering. Please let me know if you'd like it restored. Darkspots (talk) 23:32, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

I just got your message on my talk page. I'm willing to transclude the page, however you need to indicate your acceptance formally. Please say "I accept" after the statement "Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:". And sign it with four tildes.
Also, you cannot support yourself, so remove that please. The supports and opposes all have to be from logged-in users, so all the IP statements do not count and will get struck.
Finally, please reconsider this. Your nomination will fail. You do not need to do this to yourself. Get some more experience editing, look at other sucessful and unsucessful RfAs, and come back when you're ready. Darkspots (talk) 18:05, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Do you want me to transclude your RfA to the main page? I blanked the supports and opposes. There's not supposed to be any voting before transclusion, IPs can't vote, and you can't vote for yourself. Let me know, Darkspots (talk) 22:36, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Admin coaching request

You have previously expressed an interest in undergoing the Admin coaching program. We're currently engaged in a program reset to help things move more smoothly in the future. If you are still interested in the program, please go to Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests for Coaching and re-list yourself under Current requests, deleting your entry from Older requests. Also, double-check to make sure coaching is right for you at theCoachee checklist; WP:Adoption or WP:Editor review may be more appropriate depending on your situation and aspirations. We should get back to you within a day or so, once a coaching relationship has been identified. Thank you. MBisanz talk 06:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Well, technically I haven't "referred" you. I've asked if you feel your still interested in admin coaching. I'm looking at your record, and you appear to be a good user. But according to your record, you've only been active on the site this month and have a total of ~600 edits with ~60 in the mainspace. To become an admin one usually needs 5000+ edits and at least 5 months experience, with at least ~2000 edits in the mainspace. While you could be coached by a user, the Admin Coaching program currently has a very large backlog and very few coaches. So we've started asking users who need a great deal of experience to try other avenues such as WP:Adoption or WP:Editor review or WP:Helpdesk to gain experience. Once you have 2000-2500 edits, an admin coach would be able to help you refine some of the fine points of editing and make sure your covering all the right areas. Essay contest

Just for the record, you might want to see WP:CANVASS regarding advising people what to say in deletion discussions. The problem as I see it with placing such a contest in Wikipedia namespace is that similar ideas have been tried in the past, like Wikipedia:Esperanza, have been deleted in the past for not really helping the encyclopedia per se. Also, I'm not entirely sure that this proposal will really help wikipedia in any sort of direct way, so it's status in wikipedia space can be questioned. I don't really have anything specifically against the idea, but don't really see how it helps the encyclopedia that much either. Personally, I think the best way to go with this would be to try to get it listed in the Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost, maybe by leaving a note on the Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/Suggestions page. But as a stand-alone entity, which it currently is, I do think its status in wikipedia space would be rather questionable. John Carter (talk) 19:38, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I once again urge you to read WP:CANVASS. And the Signpost has been agreed upon by a number of editors as being helpful toward wikipedia over a long period of time. Your essay contest to date has, at best, three people. You can say it belongs to everybody, but if few other people want it, then, like any other WikiProject, it can reasonably be moved to userspace if it is deemed to not have enough support to remain in wikipedia space. Also, it is generally counterproductive to compare anything in wikipedia to American Idol. Such comparisons very much cause a number of editors to think that what is being proposed will almost definitely lead to unhealthy competition, and that is something we try to avoid at all costs. Having said that, if you could persuade Ral to add a link to the contest in the Singpost, that might help get attention to it. John Carter (talk) 20:08, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

P.S. What did they say when the signpost first got started and there was only 3 people? Signed with respect,Nothing444 20:27, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Two points. One, I don't think it started with only three people, although I wasn't around at the time, but that it was intended to be the basic means of establishing a sense of community, and that a large number of the community at least initially supported it. Such support has yet to be demonstrated with the essay contest. And it is still the primary way we have to build a sense of community in wikipedia. Your essay, if it were to be successful, which is still not proven, would be addressing a single section of what the Signpost already does. Like I said, I can see something like this being incorporated into the Signpost, given the "overlap" of the goals of the two, but am still far from certain that it's likely to ever get sufficient support to have its own, separate, page. You'll also note the WikiCup proposal is itself in userspace, even if it is linked to in wikipedia space. I think that was the thing at the Awards project you were referring to? John Carter (talk) 20:33, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

The wikipedia cup is what I was referring to, you are correct. Okay, how about I put it in userspace, and try it out for the first time, and if the outcome is good, it becomes in wikipedia namespace?--Signed with respect,Nothing444 20:42, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

My best guess would be to try to get it mentioned in the Signpost initially while still in userspace. Then, depending on the outcome, whenever the first "round" is finished, it might make sense to consider making it a more "standard" part of wikipedia. But I do think having it mentioned in the Signpost wouldn't be a bad idea, because several people read it and any advertising is generally considered good advertising. If you could write up a short up to three-paragraph description for inclusion in the Signpost, and add a suggestion about it at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/Suggestions, I think there is a very good chance that would enhance the idea's prospects immeasuarably. John Carter (talk) 20:46, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Your proposed addition to the signpost reads altogether too much like an advertisment, not as a news story. You might want to adjust it to read more like a regular news story. Maybe indicating why the contest is being created, what the specific guidelines (if any, like word count, are), who the judges will be, etc., would have a better chance of getting the article included. John Carter (talk) 22:07, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Any sort of interview with anyone but the proposer at this point would probably be a bit excessive. Right now, the purpose would be to just announce the existence of the contest. Later, once it's started, that sort of thing might be an additional point to add, but I don't think that the Signpost does interviews of that kind in any event. What interviews they do are more or less of the regular "news" variety, not so much of the Idol contestant variety. John Carter (talk) 22:20, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

WP:CANVASS. Read it. Please. Enough already, for now I'm pulling out. CWii(Talk|Contribs) 22:22, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Aureliano in Palmira

I see you have just started this one sentence article. Would it be possible to use a sandbox to develop a viable stub before posting it? Articles that have no content are not useful for readers and can easily be deleted. Thanks and regards. -- Kleinzach (talk) 01:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi again - just to say your contributions are most welcome. Maybe it's not necessary to delete the article? Would it be helpful to have a model to develop it? I have just started Sigismondo and Folantin has just done L'inganno felice. If you like to do something like them with Aureliano in Palmira it would be great! -- Kleinzach (talk) 03:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Talkpage Blanking

Hello. I've just reverted the blankings you did to this talkpage, specifically reinserting the Wikipedia:Ignore All Rules, Tilde note, and Requesting barnstars from new users. Please refrain from blanking portions of your own talkpage. This is doubly suspicious since you blanked this section right after David Levy specifically informed you that you shouldn't. It makes you appear disingenuous and quite frankly constitutes discussion page vandalism. If you feel that those posts are somehow unwarranted, feel free to explain your position, rather than deleting someone else's words. If you feel that the matters are already resolved and therefore no longer need to be on the talkpage, feel free to archive them instead. If you continue deleting rather than engaging in dialogue, it will be assumed you are unwilling to engage in constructive dialogue, and this matter may be taken to mediation or (failing that) arbitration. Sorry if it sounds like I'm being mean to you. -66.245.39.140 (talk) 18:25, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Welcome

Project logo

Welcome to the Opera Project!

Hello, Nothing444! We're delighted you've signed up to join us!

Opera is a very active, medium-sized project with more than 4,400 articles - it's smaller than the mega-projects like Music etc, but it is also larger than closely-focused projects such as Richard Wagner.

We have a discussion page linked to the main project page where you signed in. Participants work together on articles, see for example the Composer of the month, Singer of the month and Can you help? features on the Project page. Please take part!

The scope of the project is huge: 400 years of history, many countries and many languages. For that reason the editing style of opera articles can sometimes be complicated, so we have detailed guidelines for formatting on the project page, covering the tricky points like opera titles, capitalization, categories etc. Please don't be too bothered if you make a few mistakes at first - we all went through the same thing when we started!

Some opera editors use reference books such the New Grove Dictionary of Opera, New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the Oxford Dictionary of Opera and the Viking Opera Guide. These are helpful for checking facts and providing the essential references required on Wikipedia. It's great if you can get access to these books.

However if you don't have access to books, there are still many other ways you can contribute to the project: compiling lists of recordings, writing synopses of your favourite operas using CD librettos, translating texts from other languages, picture researching, writing biographies of contemporary singers from online sources etc etc - and see also the To do list for articles needing attention.

We hope you have a great time on the Opera Project.
Please don't hesitate to ask us if you have any questions! We are always here - here!
Best regards!

The article WikiAlmanac has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. I reverted it. As Jimbo was "talking" in the first person your edit changes what he is saying - i.e. it is untrue.   Hi. I noticed that you transcluded or substituted a template to respond to or notify a regular editor with whom you disagree. The main purpose of many of these templates is to inform the receiver of policy (e.g., that there is a numerical limit to reversion on content of an article within a time period, that personal attacks or vandalism can result in a block, that they can edit a page constructively without permission, etc.) It is likely that this editor knows this, and if he or she has breached or ignored these, please respond with a personal message. Thanks!, east.718 at 15:39, March 15, 2008

Sorry

Sorry, I didn't know the rules.--Uga Man (talk) UGA MAN FOR PRESIDENT 2008 18:00, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Your edits to Wikipedia:Ignore all rules

Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to the Wikipedia:Ignore all rules page. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. —David Levy 19:44, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't think that was vandalism. Ignoring all rules is humour, right? Is it a polic? I didn't think it was. Nothing444 19:46, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Ignore all rules is one of our oldest and most important policies. You removed a link to a comment by Jimbo Wales (founder of Wikipedia) in which he confirmed that.
In the future, please investigate such matters instead of making assumptions. Had you followed the aforementioned link (or either of the first two links in the See also section, which lead to pages explaining the policy in greater detail) or examined the edit history, talk page or talk page archives, you would have known better. Thank you. —David Levy 20:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Your signature

Please switch to the following code:

Nothing444

As you can see, it generates exactly the same output, but it consumes substantially fewer characters and eliminates a text color bug that was occurring above. Thank you. —David Levy 20:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the signature tip! Nothing444 20:28, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome! Thanks for following my advice.  :-) —David Levy 20:31, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

RE

I know that wasn't vandalism, I was just wondering. I don't know if you like baseball or not but:
