Speedy deletion nomination of Mecislovas Gedvilas

edit

A tag has been placed on Mecislovas Gedvilas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Well, I can not do any research on him since my computer is restricted from using many sites, but there is very little information you have added onto his page which you have just created. I apologize if he/she is indeed notable, but from the information provided he/she seems just like some one random person. By the way, you typed the hang on template wrong, I have fixed it for you. Also, please sign your post with four tides(~). Derild4921 16:18, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I have looked up the country he was president of and have realized my mistake. I will remove the template now, but please add in more information! If it stays with just one sentence like that for a time it can be deleted for not having any information too. Derild4921 16:25, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Vytautas Sakalauskas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.   Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Vytautas Sakalauskas, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. -- Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 16:31, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

This is the final warning you will receive regarding your disruptive edits.
The next time you remove a speedy deletion notice from a page you have created yourself, as you did with Vytautas Sakalauskas, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. -- Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 16:37, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I presume you can read Lithuanian, so why not translate lt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vytautas_Sakalauskas_(1933) for us? You will still need to give references, which I notice the Lithuanian article doesn't. You've got some time now to get things together. Let me know if you want me to check anything.   Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Vytautas Sakalauskas. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Article talk pages are not the place to discuss opinions of the subject of articles nor are such pages a forum. Thank you. -- Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 18:01, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for Repeated Vandalism. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. FASTILY (TALK) 18:33, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Here's the issue: although you have done some positive work, you were advised to NEVER remove the CSD tags from an article - in fact, you were advised how to possibly save the article from deletion. You decided to continue removing them - THAT is considered vandalism. You'll note that a few of those articles remain as stubs, and are no longer in danger of being deleted. The article about penguins? What was up with that? It has no sense being on an encyclopedia. So, add your removal of CSD tags contrary to your warnings, and the creation of a page that has no business here, you are blocked until you can convince the community that you understand policy, and will not continue to either vandalize or create articles that don't belong. I come to wikipedia to write articles. not to have lots of red flags shoved in my face. i have been blocked for writing three articles and trying not to get them deleted and having the valueable information within them destroyed. everyone here sems to hate me because i'm new and because i can't speak English very well this is sad. all the articles i write were good enough to keep, but i can't edit them beacuse im blocked after a few hours for trying to better wikipedia. i am very sad that wiki is so bad. @@@@@

also i try my hardest on the pages i edited to do what people asked - like i translated from lithuanian the lithuanian Wikipedia's page on a prime minsiter. this is all bad. can you delete all my articles please ? !

See above - and please learn to sign all of your posts on talkpages with ~~~~ (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 20:30, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I do not wish to appear unfair, but no-one is going to put this on Jimmy Wales' page. This is not what he does here. The decisions made about your editing have been made by admins who are wholly competent to make them.

Having said that, the way is not totally barred. Before you can be unblocked, you must convince us that:-

  • you have read and understood wikipedia policies.
  • you have read and understood the advice about writing articles which is contained in the welcome message at the top of this page.
  • you understand the significance of warning messages placed on your page by admins, and will follow instructions contained in them.

Are you prepared to do this?--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 20:59, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Paulius Galaunė

edit

Ok. The article itself is clearly not offensive, but there are obvious ways in which it could be expanded and improved. You say that he has held other university posts. What are they? you say that he has rec eived other honours. What are they? What else has he done? Previous academic history, political history, publications? And you have not as yet learned how correctly to insert references. See WP:REF for guidance on this. Happy wikying. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:49, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

i'm fine with creating the actual article, but it would be great if you watched it and told me if I was breaking guidelines and policys. it would probably be quite hard for you to improve it, because all the references are in Lithuanian and off the internet. Nefesf9 (talk) 18:43, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
i see you can speak lithuanian, how do you put those boxes on your page ? you can help if you want, but i have already got the books and papers. if you are in America, it would probably be hard for you to find some of them. it would be more useful if you just checked that i havent made obvius mistakes. thank you Nefesf9 (talk) 19:30, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
You are right, I am a Lithuanian living in United States so I would not have access to printed Lithuanian books. But I'll check the article for obvious errors. See WP:Babel on how you can add the language boxes. For example, if you wanted to indicate that you are native Lithuanian and intermediary English speaker, the code would be {{Babel|lt|en-2}}. Some things you may want to consider for next steps, I am not really sure of the suggested order, but I think:

Good Luck! Active Banana (talk) 12:45, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

You may also want to go to a couple of Wikipedia:Good_articles#Arts / Wikipedia:FA#Art.2C_architecture_and_archaeology about artists and see what they look like, and gain inspriation for what is missing and could be added to the article that you are working on. (the talk pages probably have links to the Good Article / Featured article discussions where you could see what concerns the reviewers had.) Active Banana (talk) 13:04, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I dont know if you were able to find this, its kind of hidden: [[1]]. Its the discussion process that the editors went through to bring your sample article up to the GA standards. Active Banana (talk) 18:27, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
The articles need to "fully cover the subject" to reach the GA standard. That generally requires that a number of reliable sources have covered many aspects of the subject and that our article makes use of all of their work. Artists can sometimes be longer articles because we would have sources that cover the life of the artist and sources that cover the artists works - whereas say a politician or sports person, the life and the work are often pretty much the same. Active Banana (talk) 18:38, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

RE: the image at Paulius Galaunė. Images of the artwork will be a great plus for the article, but due to copyright laws, you should also include third party commentary about the art. See particularly WP:NFCI (and the whole article) Active Banana (talk) 19:44, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Improper edits to articles

edit

At wikipedia, we try to assume good faith that the IP editor is attempting to improve the article.

So when they add inappropriated content, we remove it and place a notice about why their edit was in appropriate. If they continue, we place a warning explaining the consequences of continuing their inappropriate actions. See the series of notices and warning templates here: Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace

If they still continue their disruptive behavior after several of the notices and warnings (first time, they get a level 1 notice, then a level 2, etc. till they get a final notice.) , then you can go further.

  • If all of the vandalistic edits have been coming from one IP or a closely related range of IP addresses, request a block of those IP addresses here: Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism (note that this page is patrolled by bots and edited frequently resulting in a high potential of edit conflicts if you do not have your stuff ready before hand to paste in)
  • If the vandalistic edits have been coming from a variety of IP addresses and are persistant (meaning roughly 5 or more different periods in one day, or 2 or three every day over several days, then you can request a temporary semi protection at WP:RPP

If you have questions, let me know. I had also noticed the questionable edits and I will keep an eye out as well. Active Banana (talk) 01:52, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Other stuff to do

edit

In addition to writing articles:

  • You can help maintain articles by reverting vandalism: see Wikipedia:Anti-Vandalism Project
  • You can help fix up articles: One way to do this is click on Random Article and help address any of the "clean up/ maintainance tags.
  • One of the major projects at Wikipedia is to address concerns in articles about living people - there is a major effort to find articles about living people that do not have any or valid sources and provide sources if possible, or redirect or nominate for deletions. You can start here: Category:Unreferenced_BLPs [2]
  • You can become involved in various Wikiprojects and help tackle their "to-do list", like this one Wikipedia:WikiProject_Visual_arts#Open_Tasks
  • You can watch for new users [[3]] and provide them a {{subst:welcome}} greeting.

There are some other things that you may want to do after a while, but I would suggest some time becoming more familiar with how wikipedia works and how to apply policies and guidelines: such as providing third opinions, if you are good with people and helping resolve disputes, becoming a Mediator. Active Banana (talk) 15:54, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks very much. Ill try some vandalism related stuff - I've got the tool TWINKLE on through my preferences, so I will hopefully find out how it works. Nefesf9 (talk) 16:36, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hoaxes in Galaune

A user found that images in the article were false, taken from other sources and attributed to Galaune. This is an intentional hoax. That brought into question validity of some statements in the article. They are hard to verify because you cited them to a paper book, which is not available online. I was considering an indefinite block for your continued disruption -- even before your own request. At this point, I am uncertain about the validity of your claims that the articles are hoaxes. It will be necessary for other editors who are more familiar with Lithiuanian to investigate. However, either the creation of hoax articles or false claims in attempting to have them deleted is sufficient to block you from further editing on Wikipedia.
