Question

Hello, thank you for your hard work in designing and maintaining your bot. It does not seem to be archiving my talk page discussions. Did I set something up incorrectly? Ies (talk) 07:21, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

@I enjoy sandwiches: Taking a look at User talk:I enjoy sandwiches, I find the following in the opening section:
{{User:MiszaBot/config
|archiveheader = {{atnhead}}
|maxarchivesize = 150K
|counter = 19
|minthreadsleft = 5
|algo = old(10d)
|archive = User talk:I enjoy sandwiches/Archive %(counter)d
}}
There are several problems here; it looks like you copied the template from somebody else's user talk page without understanding what the various parameters are for - it's best to read the instructions at User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo. First, you're not giving the bot any chance to archive anything: the parameter |algo=old(10d) means that threads are not to be archived until ten days have elapsed since the last time that somebody posted to that thread, and the parameter |minthreadsleft=5 means that the bot will not archive anything unless it can leave at least five unarchived threads on the page. However, prior to this edit, there were just two threads - and both of those were last posted to less than one day earlier. If you allow ten days or more, and let the threads build up to six or more in total, you would find that archiving would then start.
Returning to that edit, you altered |archive=User talk:Plumpy Humperdinkle/Archive %(counter)d to |archive=User talk:I enjoy sandwiches/Archive %(counter)d which will have corrected another problem - the bot refuses to archive to pages that are not direct subpages of the page being archived - it won't follow redirects.
Also, you have the parameter |counter=19 but you don't have nineteen archive pages. You have two, User talk:I enjoy sandwiches/Archive 1 and User talk:I enjoy sandwiches/Archive 19, so whoever you copied that template from must have been around long enough to amass 19 archive pages. |counter= should have been set to 1 if you had never used archiving before.
Please note that since the departure of Misza13 (talk · contribs), archiving tasks of the various MiszaBots have been taken over by Lowercase sigmabot III (talk · contribs), which is why I'm answering here, not Misza13. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 13:34, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your thorough response, this is quite helpful. You are right, I copied and pasted the bot from another page. I will review sigmabot's documentation to make sure I do it correctly this time when I switch it over. Ies (talk) 17:24, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
