Thank you kindly for the very quick review and response to my draft submission. I think I understand your concerns and the changes required. I have attempted to address each of your suggestions, and also have a clarifying question. Again, I appreciate your assistance with this process and I hope that these changes are along the lines of what is necessary to publish this article.

Clarifying Question

You stated that I need to "improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable...". I am a bit unclear as to the best way to address this concern. Shall I include more references and citations? Or do I simply need to place the ones I already have more frequently throughout the article's sentences rather than at the end of paragraphs as I have done?

Addressing Notability

It seems to me the biggest issue with the article in its current form (and I do plan to flesh out the other sections more fully in the next weeks), is its notability. I have reviewed the Golden Rule and musician notability guidelines that you were very helpful in passing along.

Golden Rule

Significant Coverage I've included over 15 unrelated and independent references from sources including newspapers, magazine articles, well-known music corporations (e.g., ProMark and Zildjian), other musicians' websites, and online music stores. Nearly all of these discuss the topic directly and in detail. I understand these may not be enough, and I actually have other print sources that I have not yet had a chance to include as I was saving them for additions to the topic. I've listed these below to hopefully bolster the significant coverage requirement:

• Modern Drummer is the premier magazine/news source for professional drummers of all musical styles. One of my currently referenced articles is available online - the others I only have in print form at the moment.

Independent Sources All of the articles referenced and those listed above were generated by independent authors or interviewers. None were paid advertisements or otherwise arranged by the topic.

Verifiability I am a bit confused by the statement listed: "Non-independent reliable sources can be used for verifiability". Either way, I hope the sources I've already used and those listed above are considered verifiable. The answer to my question above will help me understand more clearly how often sources should be included/referenced.

Notability

• Multiple, non-trivial, published works in all forms

It is my contention that the listing above and those already referenced fall under this category.

• Non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country

The interviews and articles listed above cover this topic regarding several major festivals Abbey performed at in Europe

• Two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels

Two of Abbey's albums were released by Cadence Jazz Records, which contains notable musicians and is a leading label for independent jazz music.

• Musician who has been a reasonably prominent member of two or more independently notable ensembles

Abbey played for John Handy and Mal Waldron in several ensembles during the 70s and 80s, both independently highly notable jazz musicians.

• Prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city

Abbey Rader is the one of the only, perhaps the only, musician playing this style of music in South Florida. There are several newspaper articles and online mentions of his work in Miami that allude to this, many of which I have already referenced. If you want to make an article on Wikipedia, I would highly recommend using the Wikipedia:Articles for Creation wizard. This process helps make sure that your article is notable enough for Wikipedia, and that it has enough sources to support it's facts (it also helps make sure that your article won't get deleted in the future). What topic(s) would you like to create an article about?

If you have information about a topic that already has an article, feel free to add that info to the article, but you should make sure that any facts you add are backed up with a reliable source. For information on how to put sources in articles, Wikipedia:Citing sources is very helpful. And if an edit you make gets deleted, don't panic :) It happens to everyone, even very experienced editors.

Also, if you are really serious about learning how to help out Wikipedia, Adopt-a-user is a program in which an experienced Wikipedia editor mentors you, giving a big intro in to many areas of the WikiWorld :) This mentorship lasts awhile, though, so prepared to be committed. Your help with AfC reviewing is greatly appreciated. Perhaps I might make some suggestions on the basis of experience; much of this is not as simple as it may seem.

1/Please be aware of the actual requirements of WP:PROF. The basic requirement is to show the individual an authority in their subject. The way people accomplish this is by publishing work that is highly cited . There are also some simple unambiguous ways this status as an authority can be demonstrated: holding a named chair at a major university, receiving a major national or international prize, election to a major national level society, being editor of an important journal. Proof of any one of these is fully sufficient for notability. We accept a published curriculum vitae or biography on a university web site as sufficiently reliable proof for this, tho additional sources are desirable. I have consequently accepted several of the afcs you have recently declined. (There are often problem with promotionalism or copyvio which require rewriting, but this is distinct from notability)

2/ Remember also that being a member of even a state or provincial legislature, or a national cabinet minister , is enough for notability. Nothing more needs to be proven if this can be shown from either news reports or official sources.

3/Although the prebuilt templates do not provide for this, there is a key difference between an article which needs better evidene to show the possible or probable notability, and one where there is no chance of showing notability at all. It's necessary to leave a specific comment to this, in order to discourage people from hopeless efforts at rewriting that will never be accepted. I find that at present the only way is to place a specific warning to that effect on their talk page. In extreme cases, where the material would be a clear A7 if it were it mainspace, the article should not be allowed to remain--I have nominated a few you declined for MfD, though speedy as a test page is also available for the worst of them, especially Facebook-style BLPs. (You may have noticed twinkle is currently not doing this--it has to be done manually. I've filed a bug report. )

4/The accepted standard for accepting an article is that an article will probably pass AfD. An acceptable stub is enough. If the submission can be reduced to a stub and accepted, I sometimes do that. It can be developed further later, like all articles.

5/it is probably very confusing to new users when you sign your name as Anastasia, but the edit is recorded as being by Missionedit. I'm not in the least a new user, but I thought I was seeing two different people, one accepting or rejecting an afc, and the other commenting.

I'm very willing to help you deal with problems--just ask me on my talk page--it's the only place I'll see them. (or use the notifications system--I do now see these also). DGG ( talk ) 04:51, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

You're very welcome :) I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about learning to contribute to Wikipedia! If you would like a mentor to help you learn about Wikipedia, try WP:Adopt-a-user. This is a program in which experienced Wikipedia editors mentor newer editors. Just so you know, every time you write something on a talk page, you should "sign" it with 4 tildes (~~~~). This will produce your username and the date. Also, every time you respond to someone on a talk page, indent your response with another colon (:) so that you can see who's saying what easier. For instance, you left the first message on my talk page (which doesn't need a colon), so I indented my response with 1 colon. When you respond to this message, you should indent using 2 colons. @Molly's Mind: Hmm...almost :) A tilde looks like this: ~ . The tilde key is usually in the far top left corner of the keyboard. As for me becoming your adopter.....I've been thinking about adopting for a while now, and maybe it's time for me to start! I'll just have to set up a few things, won't take me but a few days (my time in real life is a bit tight right now). As for those no-so-helpful-kind-of-nasty comments from other editors, I'd like to apologize for them. Most experienced editors mean to be helpful, but these days there are so many people who come into Wikipedia trying to make trouble, vandlizing and using Wikipedia for things other than what is was intended. This has caused lots of editors to be so on their guard that they forget that not everyone who makes a mistake is trying to bring down their world. Some editors have been around here so long they have forgotten what it's like to be a newbie :) Just remember, we're all human, and we all need a little grace sometimes. @Molly's Mind: Hmmm. What sort info is it? The best place I can think of to post that sort of thing on Wikipedia would be your adoption classroom talk page--it's rather buried; hard to find if you don't know what you are looking for. And, I if remove this part of the message after you read it, no one will know what they're looking for :) I don't give out my email as a general rule.

A few things to point out:

• Please try to remain calm and polite as is possible when confronting a rude editor, especially one who is more experienced then you. See WP:CIVIL.
• I reverted your edit which deleted that section from my talk page. If you really want the section deleted, you can do so again and I won't revert it. But I like to keep a record of all my talk page discussions for future reference, so I "archive", or move to another page, all my old discussions.

Peacock word

Hello Missionedit,

I wanted to ask what a 'peacock' word is? My page was deleted as apparently it included a 'peacock' word. Would you kindly help me with the definition to that. I don't intend to bother you. If you are unable to help it's ok. :) Nice meeting you and please reply soon! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

I'm happy to help :) A "peacock word" is, basically, a word which puts the subject of an article in a favorable light, and that isn't just stating the facts. Since Wikipedia is supposed to be a neutral and unbiased encyclopedia, we try not to use promotional words. For example, changing "coffee shop" to "a lovely coffee shop" promotes the coffee shop unnecessarily. WP:PEACOCK explains what a peacock word is in better detail. Just so you know, when you write things on talk pages, you should always "sign" them at the end with 4 tildes (~~~~). First of all, let me apologize for responding to your offer on your talk page. I saw the alert you had posted, but I was unsure of how to add {{Talkback|username}} to your post.

That said, I would love to be adopted. I'm really not sure what it entails, but editing Wikipedia seems to be a worthy endeavor, and I'm really quite clueless as to how to go about it. I'm currently a high school senior in the throws of college admissions, so I might not be too active on Wikipedia at the moment, but I'll certainly do my best.

Great! Don't worry about the talkback, that's fine :) I'm so glad that you're enthusiastic about learning to edit Wikipedia! That's alright if you're not that active, we'll just play it by ear and do lessons when you have the time to spare. You'll find your adoption classroom at User:Missionedit/Adoption/Ntomlin1996. That's where we'll do lessons on how to edit Wikipedia and you can ask all the questions you want :) We won't need to use the talk page, all the lessons and such will be done on the userpage. I would recommend that you put it on your watchlist so that you you when someone edits it.

If you don't know how to add something to your watchlist, it's easy! Go to the page you would like to put on your watchlist, and click the little star next to the "View history" tab at the top of the page. If you want to take a page off your watchlist, just click the star again. Draft first article

Hi - I'm getting towards finishing an article on D.P. Thomson, the Church of Scotland evangelist (1920s-1960s) - and would very much appreciate your comments while it's still in my sandbox: Editing User:Ian Badenoch/sandbox.

I only created a Wikipedia account a few days ago and it's a sharp learning curve. A friend recently completed a page for Rev. Tom Allan and I thought I should add one for his colleague DPT. I didn't know DPT personally, but friends did. I hope I've been objective. I also hope that referencing DPT's own books - even though he saved time by self-publishing - is ok for the sort of points I'm trying to make.

David De Cremer is a Belgian scholar examining behavioral applications to organizations, management and economics.1,2 He is appointed at the University of Cambridge (UK) as the KPMG chair in management studies at Judge Business School. This last well-meaning paragraph sounds rather biased, and much of it is either not necessary to the article and/or has no sources to back it up:

CONFUSED...

You're there again! Even your instructions about leaving you a message is impossibly cryptic and jargonesse! I'm sixty-four - reasonably intelligent and reasonably literate, yet a red mist comes up whenever I try to do anything on Wikipedia, and I'm beaten down and down by all this code-work and totally unnecessary complex arrangements about leaving messages. I really don't know why I'm still bothering. I left a detailed question the day before yesterday on a similar vein, after I had struggled to make an article I'd just submitted and had rejected fit the required criteria. I sent the question at the same time as I applied to join the Teahouse. I've had my acceptance and my badge, yet my question has, apparently, been completely ignored. I thought the Teahouse was supposed to be a 'friendly place to chat with other editors'? Why am I being ignored? Sorry to be coming across as all negative, but this is the effect your website is having on me. Surely, I'm not the only one having these problems? There are lots of possible reasons why your question wasn't answered, but don't worry, you are not being ignored. Maybe someone couldn't find your question, or it didn't get saved. I don't know. But you can ask your question here, if you prefer, and I'll do my best to answer.

My lost question...

That's just it, Anastasia... you say I can ask my question

'here' if I prefer, but WHERE, exactly, is 'here'? I'm typing

this out offline, in Notepad, at first, so that I can still SEE

your very kind reply to me about my ignored (or lost) question. If I try to go onto what I think is your page (?), your reply to

me disappears and I don't know what I'm replying to! I'm LOST

in the labyrinth that is Wikipedia! Even these, most basic, fundamental elements, such as where to

physically write, or send, my questions, are NOT AT ALL CLEAR,

to say the least! I've rarely seen such a user-unfriendly

website! I know this is NOT social media, and we're not here for idle

chit-chat. Wikipedia is a serious encyclopaedia and things have

to be done in a very stricktly-controlled way. Having said

that, WHY is it so DIFFICULT to even go to somewhere like the

Teahouse and ask questions about what's wrong with my submitted

article? I asked my question on the Teahouse page, and I followed procedure properly, signing it with four of those squiggly things, like you're supposed to when it's just 'talk.' That Teahouse seems a waste of time as far as I'm concerned - there are a load of questions on there that people have asked and you can click and find the given answers to, but MY question has somehow got lost, leaving me feeling very annoyed and also rather stupid, as I'm guessing I probably missed some vital coded character or something to ensure it went through properly? Then I see that there is a page called 'Articles for Creation' where I could ask questions, too! My article was entitled 'Walsall Lithgraphic Company'and was a brief profile on a former, large printing Company in my old, hometown of Walsall, West Midlands, U.K., where I was apprenticed. There is hardly anything about this now-defunct Business on the Internet, so it's almost impossible to cite references, etc. Now we get to the gritty business of WHERE I post this question for you? Your instructions about posting it on MY page or YOUR page is a bewildering puzzle, to say the least! I can't cope with stuff like this. Now I see the line 'Please click here to leave me a new message' so I'll try that. Hope you get this, and perhaps you'll get back to me somehow? Yes, I got your question. You did it! You are not stupid--I understand, I couldn't figure out how to get around Wikipedia at first either. You've actually been doing a good job so far :) Apologies again for all the trouble you've had contacting people. I'll lay some instructions out for you, see if that helps.

• You can ask the question on this page by clicking the little "edit" button next to where it says "My lost question..." at the beginning of this section. This will bring you to a page called "Editing User talk:Missionedit". This is the page where you can leave your message.
• Scroll to the bottom and type your response there; this is very important to find where and what respond to. I think this is probably what happened before when you got confused, you just didn't scroll down to the very bottom of the page.
• Click the "Save page" button once you're done, if you don't do that, your question will be lost.
  

If you can't find the little "edit" button, or if something else that I mentioned doesn't work, that's fine. You can just use the "Please click here to leave me a new message" thing at the top of the page again. Okay - now I don't know who I'm replying to - Anastasia or Chris Troutman? I would really like my article on Walsall Lithographic to be able to get through all its difficulties and eventually be accepted on Wikipedia. My immediate problem is that there is little, if any, published material online about the former company, which is one of the reasons I wanted to GET some information about it on somewhere like Wiki! Because it no longer exists as a business, it does not have its own webpage. If you Google it, you get odd bits and pieces about some of its old posters and Metcraft Plaques that they produced, offered for sale. Or else, random magazines that they printed years ago held in a local museum. There is an article from a few years back, describing a visit by stamp collectors to Walsall Security Printers (the main, surviving offspring company from Walsall Lithographic), where they mention a little of the Company's history. Would any of this be useable as citable reference? And how should I go about doing that? As I mentioned in my 'lost' question, I'm not someone who has ambitions about being a Wiki Editor - that does not interest me at all! I simply want to write an acceptable article about this particular subject that will be suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia, WITH photographs (eventually), preferably - though I already read that to get photographs accepted in an article you have to have had ten 'edits' done first...? @Sparkoparkes: What kind of sources do you want to use for the article? You are actually allowed to cite sources that are not online. For instance, newspapers, magazines, books, and even audio recordings are all allowed to be used as sources. Thanks for the welcome. Having joined an anachronistic book club (which eschews publicity, so seeks as little mention in this medium as possible) and recently become a regional tour guide, while I used to just be a little techy, I'm now techy with a history focus. And here's one wonderful medium for feeding that flame.

It's fun reading through the questions. My question is about adding info boxes to articles. I'm editing an article (Edith Anisfield Wolf) and need to put in a bio box. As an example, I look at Michael Scharf's article, and not sure how I get that bio box that contains his photo and bio info. Do I copy the whole thing into my article and edit as needed, like this?

Or is there a more kosher way to get the basic box?

Obviously I think I've answered my own question, but still did I snag the best code for my purpose?

1. Wiki text (is there a name for Wiki Code?) is kinda fun. Unforgiving like HTML. But Wikipedia has a ton of built-in aides that make posting relatively easy, huh?
2. I noticed after doing the Wolf article, other articles listed publications -- should I do this with Wolf's poetry books?
3. While the Wolf article I felt okay about putting directly into production, the 2nd article I posted using the mobile article wizard, which suggested that putting the article into draft would permit other editors to help prep it for final article status -- and that this was preferable to putting it directly into the final article space. What's the draft process? I see the comment that suggests review Wikipedia:Drafts#Preparing_drafts, so I'm digesting that.
4. I see that the period in the title looks odd, and so is prob not desired (guess I've never seen it, but is so normal outside wikispace I didn't think about it) -- how does one change the title of an article?

1. I believe that the official name for Wiki text is "Metawiki Code", but most just call it "Wiki Markup".
2. You can list publications for Edith Anisfield Wolf, if you like. Just make sure you list only a few important ones; we don't want your article turning into a resume :)
3. The AfC draft process is just basically a way for an article to be reviewed before going live to mainspace. You write the article in draft space, then submit it for review. Then an AfC reviewer will come along and either reject the article to be worked on further, or accept it and "publish" it to mainspace. A little warning, though, there are 2,000+ articles waiting to be reviewed, and it may take a up to month for a reviewer to get to your submission.
4. Which period in an article title are you talking about? If you mean the period after "W" in Margaret W. Wong, this period is actually supposed to be there, so no worries on that one. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 04:00, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

I think I have covered my copyright liability by:

@Venustar84: Thanks for responding. I'd prefer you to answer questions on the same page that they were asked--in this case your adoption page. This way, it's easier to keep track of things. The picture is great, but in order to use it on Wikipedia, you would have to upload it from your computer to Wikimedia Commons. Unless you want to do that, maybe it would be easier if you just told me what you wanted a picture of (eg. a purple butterfly on a pink flower; your favorite actor; or something else that you like), and I could find one for you that has already been uploaded.
