Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2008–09 UEFA Champions League knockout phase, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Sky TV and Pique. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

1556 Shaanxi earthquake death toll once more edit

Hi, this has come up again at the talk page of the list of natural disasters by death toll. Although the sources that you provided at the time of the previous discussion on the earthquake article's talk page seemed clear enough, I've been unable to find evidence that the numbers of deaths directly attributed to the earthquake proposed by the China Earthquake Administration have been taken up more widely, which leads to the difficulty that multiple recently published reliable sources use the 830,000 number. I suspect that we need to look at this again. Mikenorton (talk) 20:29, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

The article can tell the readers that although 830,000 is the most cited figure, careful evaluation of the death causes revealed 100,000 were direct deaths and the remaining 700,000+ are attributed to famine, plagues and migration.
If the death toll from all earthquakes and floods were rigorously evaluated to differentiate direct deaths from plague-induced deaths, it is reasonable to assume the figures on the List of natural disasters by death toll should deflate considerably. However, given that most death figures were not rigorously evaluated, for normalization purposes, it should be OK to simply list the commonly cited inflated figure and hence allow the inclusion of the 1556 earthquake on the list, as long as the carefully evaluated figure was provided in the footnotes. -- love.wh 09:20, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Yu Dawei edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Yu Dawei requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
