Vincent Dargein

It may be of advantage to 'watch this space' in French wikipedia about him. Currently he has no article in his own right but he is mentioned in a list of 'Personalities connected to the municipality' in their article on his birth town, mentioning his Olympic involvement and his death place but shedding no light on how he died. Usually a person who had been killed in active service would have been mentioned as such if it were common knowledge.Cloptonson (talk) 07:50, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

World War II Service

Hi. Unless there is defining role in the article supporting the addition of "Category:United States __ personnel of World War II", please ensure there is content to support the addition of the category. The person must have a defining role in the war to support the addition of the category, and IMHO, military service alone during the period of the war is not defining on its own to support the addition of the category. I recommend you check the talk pages first before adding this wartime service cats as I removed these categories on many people where the article did did not support a defining role. "Steve Sebo" and "Tony Zuzzio" are two examples. If you disagree, please discuss. Thanks. Semper Fi! FieldMarine (talk) 22:22, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

FieldMarine, your comment is very confusing. You say that the person must have a defining role in the war to support the addition of categories in the American military personnel of World War II category bubble, than you say that you removed these categories from articles where it did support the person having a defining role in the war. Can you please elaborate? Lettlerhellocontribs 12:55, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for the confusion. I will try and clarify.

  • I meant "did not" instead of "did" on my comment above. I have corrected the mistake.
  • Wikipedia articles about people should show they had a definfing role in the war to have the "Category:United States __ personnel of World War II" added to the article. IMHO, merely serving in the military during that time period is not defining.
  • I have eliminated this category on a bunch of articles with a note on the Talk page. It appears we are working at cross purposes, because you are adding the category back on the examples I mentioned above. To avoid working at cross purposes, as a courtesy, I ask that you please review the talk pages of articles before adding "Category:United States __ personnel of World War II" (or any war for that matter) to see if there is a discussion about it.
  • In general, I ask that you please ensure there is content in the article that demonstrates a defining role before adding "personnel of ___ war" categories.

Thanks, Semper fi! FieldMarine (talk) 14:51, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Eamon McEneaney

Hi. Please do not add uncited material to articles under the rationale of "cleanup", as you did with this edit to Eamon McEneaney. Since you've accumulated over 83,000 edits since you began editing Wikipedia in March 2020, you may have learned that Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the text in the form of an inline citation. Cyprian Tseriwa may be an Olympian killed in acton during 1980s in Zimbabwe

Hi there,

I noticed you had the category Olympians Killed in Action

I did the Cyprian Tseriwa article 5 years ago. He was the first black Zimbabwean to run in the Olympics in 1960 in Rome Cyprian Tseriwa

I don't know what happened to him after 1980 and while I am in contact with his Grandson, he won't say what happened to his grandfather. I have contacted quite a few people in Zimbabwe on this matter and no one will return my emails.

I suspect he may have been killed in the Guruhundi, the killings of Nkomo's people by Mugabe in the 1980s.

That would explain why noone will talk of him. I've also send a letter to Coventry the Sports Minister to no avail.

I'm alerting you that Cyprian Tseriwa may be an Olympian killed in action, as it were.

Richard Malik - how about translating what he did in the war?

Hi, I appreciate you having given fuller details regarding the WWII activities and death of Leonard Malik. The citation used, a Polish language one, is also used in the article on his cousin Richard, who played for Germany and was killed serving in the Wehrmacht but because I have no translation facility I cannot read it and feed the detail for benefit of English readers onto the page. It would give parity if you could enable readers to compare the fates of the cousins.Cloptonson (talk) 10:29, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

UPDATE: Glad to say, I have been able to translate and so I have now added Richard Malik to the List with the same citation used.Cloptonson (talk) 10:28, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Albert Johnstone (sports shooter)

I have been looking up his name in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website Debt of Honour Register but do not find anyone matching his name and date of death under WWI Commonwealth service casualties. The only Albert Edward Johnstone (to give the shooter's full name, as per Olympedia) was a soldier killed in 1916 aged only 22 and therefore too young to be the AEJ born in 1878. There is an Albert Johnston, Pte Royal Scots, who died on 24 July 1918 and who is listed as a no known grave casualty on the Soissons Memorial in France but details of his age, home and family are lacking. On these grounds the sports shooter could be ruled out as a WWI casualty (unless he is a candidate for discovery by the In From The Cold Project). No Albert Johnstones/Johnstons are listed by the CWGC as missing from the South African forces.Cloptonson (talk) 20:29, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
