Director-Generals of New Netherland edit

Please note that there was only one director-general 1647-1664 and one governor 1673-1674 of New Netherland. Cornelius Jacobsen Mey is the least used or worst spelling of his name. Use therefore the 17th century spelling of Cornelis Jacobsz May which is also the spelling as used in Cape May. I have left out the dot after the z which is usually included in the Dutch spelling to connote an abbreviation of the word "zoon" but would confuse the English reader. Although May had been in the Hudson River in 1613 and the Delaware River in 1620, he became only director of New Netherland in 1624. Your 1620 date is therefore neither here nor there. You also forgot to mention the fourth director (out of seven) which I have mentioned somewhere else. Again, if you are interested in physics you know that formulas have certain outcomes which are precise. In history, when dealing with the facts, the same is valid and to be imprecise or sloppy is no history at all. I am astonished by your insistence of posting the New Netherland-New Sweden map on either article. This has nothing to do with nationalist fervor or one-sided passion as one editor seems to suggest. It is all about trying to deal with ignorance. Cheers. April 28, 2006. DeKoning

Cornelius Jacobsen Mey (1620-1625) Willem Verhulst (1625-26) Peter Minuit (1626-33) Wouter van Twiller (1633-38) Willem Kieft (1638-47) Peter Stuyvesant (1647-64)

Adriaen van der Donck edit

Have you thought about submitting this article to FAC for featured article status? I think it fits the FA criteria. — Wackymacs 15:14, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • Yeah expanding the early life section is a good idea. More references would be good, few references will be used as an objection at FAC otherwise. Also, the Refs section should be a numbered list instead of bulleted because its footnotes. A picture for the 'In New Netherland' section would be a nice addition as well. Good luck! — Wackymacs 16:11, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Adriaen van Bergen edit

I just had a quick look on your stub (haven't got much time now) and there was one thing that I think might be incorrect. Your stub states that Adriaen van Bergen is a captain in Prins Maurice's army. nl:Turfschip van Breda states that he is indeed a captain, but just a normal civilian captain on a ship (schipper). I am not very into this history so I don't no what is true, but my interpretation is that he is not in the army. Maartenvdbent 15:21, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

As my English prose is not that beautiful, I'll provide you with a rough translation of certain parts, so that you can add it to your stub :) :
Dutch original:In februari 1590 werd prins Maurits benaderd door de schipper Adriaen van Bergen uit Leur. Hij had een plan om de stad in te nemen: als schipper vervoerde hij regelmatig turf naar het Kasteel van Breda, waar de Spaanse troepen gelegerd waren. Omdat hij zo vaak kwam, werd zijn schip niet meer gecontroleerd. Hij zou op deze manier een leger het kasteel binnen kunnen smokkelen.
Rough translation: In February 1590 Prince Maurice was approached by captain (is skipper an English word?) Adriaen van bergen from Leur (smal town in Netherlands). As a captain he often went to the Breda Castle, where Spanish troops were stationed. Because he came so often the Spanish didn't control his ship. This way it would be easy to get the Dutch army inside the castle.Maartenvdbent 16:07, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Have you tried Babelfish for a computer generated translation? Although it's not perfect off course it does a good job in making the article intelligable for foreigner's: [1]. Maartenvdbent 16:24, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Optical Transfer Function By Autocorrelation  : Polar Coordinates edit

Hi,

This is regarding T(w) by Autocorrelation given at the end of the article Optical autocorrelation.

If T(w) can be given when f(x,y) is chosen in terms of polar co-ords say f(r), it would be very helpful in some applications.

I do not know the transformation, If you or some expert knows that, kindly post it.

What does this map show? It doesn't claim to show the range of the bobcat but the Canadian lynx isn't that widespread. On the other hand the bobcat is more widespread than the map shows. Rmhermen 23:02, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bobcat are present across the lower peninsula of Michigan, Kentucky, southern Indiana. This is not shown by your map. And the image description page doesn't mention bobcat. Rmhermen 00:58, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I would say that the map does include bobcat under the name American lynx but that the source used wasn't very accurate. This map which gives its source accurately shows their range in Michigan and Wisconsin. And probably on the East Coast but I would say it underestimates it in the lower Midwest. Still it is the best one I found. Bobcat haev been sighted "recently" in all lower 48 states - except Delaware. Rmhermen 01:50, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 19:38, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.

0.00% edit

On your first point, I had thought of that, for towns with a population of less tan 20,000 even one person should show up as .005% rounded up to .01%. I will not substitute 0.00% for towns with a substantially greater population, (although I suspect there will be few if any). Your second point is interesting, "other races" is fairly well explained in the article Race (United States Census) which is extensively linked to from every article. Perhaps putting "other races" in quotes would emphasise the meaning. See Muenster, Texas, let me know what you think. Rich Farmbrough 15:09 29 May 2006 (UTC).

The good news is the most recent Texan Collaboration of the Month - Juneteenth has recently been featured on the Main Page! The bad news is that we chose this article six months ago and we haven't kept up to date with choosing and improving a new article.

We are going to pick up right where we left off. Please visit Texan Collaboration of the Month and help select the new collaboration - we'll begin working on the selected article 1 July 2006.

The articles are: Stuckist demonstrations, which I think is the strongest, The Stuckists Punk Victorian, which may be OK apart from references need formatting, and Damien Hirst, which could probably do with more images. A major problem with contemporary art is getting any images other than fair use. Thanks. Tyrenius 23:47, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Zenz at CERN edit

Salve, Laurascudder. Mr. S.C. Zemz from Chicago, born in 1982, is assumed to perform work at CERN for the ATLAS project, specifically for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter. In reality he is continuously misusing his paid working time, however, to fulfill tasks related to his function as an administrator of Wikipedia. Yesterday I left a message for you on the talk page of 'Modern Galilean relaivity', which was quickly removed by Mr. Zenz. Is it possible that you lift the ban against me? I am solely interested in scientific questions and in nothing else. KraMuc, 29 June 2006.

Regardless of whether I would've unblocked you originally, I will certainly not do so when a user is threatening real-life harassment of another editor. It is a completely inappropriate response to an editing dispute and exemplifies the type of behavior you were originally blocked for. Editing Wikipedia is a privledge, not a right, and your behavior is the reason that privledge has been revoked. — Laura Scudder 23:11, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is your viewpoint and your decision. Mr. Zenz had already heavily manipulated the 'history' of the article 'Anti-relativity' by deleting information I had left behind in the 'edit summary', so that other supervisors did not know what was going on. This misbehaviour does perhaps also belong to the 'priviledges' of being an administrator? When I contributed to that article suddenly the following sentence appeared in the middle of my text: "I, Zenz, tell you how you present yourself in public". He was referring to the content of that article. Is this good behaviour? Mr. Zenz is simply an immature person, and I regret that he deserves this kind of treatment. Apparently he has nothing or too little to do during working hours at CERN. Therefore, he is currently misusing CERN computers for his nonsense. I have informed the Head of Personnel of CERN as well as the manager of the ATLAS project about his continuous misuse of CERN computers, and I must say that I have absolutely no bad feeling about this. It is a difference whether Mr. Zenz teases other users by means of his private laptop after work or whether he uses for this purpose computers belonging to the European research institute CERN. I regard this discussion with you as finished and will not reply to further comments from your side. Best wishes, KraMuc, 30 June 2006.
