Thank you

Hi, Knitsey. Thanks for telling me about Hapyrr's sockpuppet Sadrr. I've blocked it. Bishonen | tålk 15:05, 28 September 2022 (UTC).

Np,I noticed it in new users and saw the block on the original. Knitsey (talk) 15:10, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment. PPSh-41 gun (talk) 02:29, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Dreamsimp

Thanks for your message. I'm sorry, I only spotted that you'd warned this user already when I checked their contributions. I thought about reporting him or her to WP:ARV, but as he or she has not been active for an hour I decided to wait. I will however put a final warning on the talk page. Tacyarg (talk) 16:11, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Lovely, thank you. Knitsey (talk) 16:13, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for your message. I've pinged the user over to WP:ARV, here.
Hope you are enjoying your editing - it looks as if you are doing a good job! Well done for catching Sam Shaw, that was a nasty piece of self-promotion. Tacyarg (talk) 10:14, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
I need to bite the bullet and use AIV really. I just worry about not getting it right.
Thanks for the encouragement. Knitsey (talk) 11:37, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi again

Hi again, Knitsey. Looks like we stumbled over each other's feet on Musabani, sorry about that. I wanted to explain to the well-meaning newbie what the problem was, which made my revert a bit slower than yours. Never mind, I think the article is all right now. Bishonen | tålk 21:15, 1 October 2022 (UTC).

I just went back to look to make sure it was in order lol. I've left a message for the editor as I didn't think it warrented a warning message but I can undo that if you want? Knitsey (talk) 21:17, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
No, that's fine. I agree they should be encouraged rather than warned. If they look at the history (which is of course doubtful since they're completely green), they'll also get a hint that article prose needs to be encyclopedic. Bishonen | tålk 02:19, 2 October 2022 (UTC).
They've rewritten it but with grammar errors. I will go over it soon. Knitsey (talk) 11:39, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
It's on my list now to look for some references for its origin. Knitsey (talk) 11:55, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

October 2022

Hello I made some edits to Nick Cabe and the bad seeds and you removed them. I just added a band members death because me and him were really close. It really saddens me that you would remove my edit for no reason. Can you put it back? CrayolaTeam CrayolaTeam (talk) 19:56, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

There is nothing on Warren Ellis (musician) article with any source about his death in 2012. Your edits there have been reverted as well. I presume that's because you added no sources for his death in 2012. Knitsey (talk) 20:06, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Titan Hunters

Hello, Thanks for your reply. I need time to make the article encyclopedic, could you please allow me time? How much days can the wikipedia allow me time to fix this article? ThanksSandro platt (talk) 07:37, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Sandro. I haven't tagged it for deletion. You need to message VickKiang as I don't deal with article deletion. Knitsey (talk) 07:45, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

I've been stalking a few talk pages, not because I'm nosey but I'm struggling a bit with knowing how everything is linked and how situations are handled. Most of it is way beyond me...but I'm learning! Knitsey (talk) 01:31, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
If you have any questions feel free to let me know. I've been hanging around for a month and I've started to get the hang of things a bit recently Zekerocks11 (talk) 01:32, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Thats really kind of you, thank you. I will probably take you up on that! Knitsey (talk) 01:36, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
I mean, we don't have a guideline for being kind per se (there is a kindness campaign tho), but there is a guideline for WP:BOLD so it kind of works... I guess? 🤷‍♂️ Zekerocks11 (talk) 01:47, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
I think everyone I have bumped into so far have been very patient considering the amount of editors they deal with. A couple have been curt but that doesn't faze me. I think I need to start concentrating on policy now to make sure I'm doing this correctly. I know the basics but need to read up more. Knitsey (talk) 01:54, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
We're all here to help each other out and help out new people and answer questions. I mean, yes, it's part of the guidelines to be nice to newbies and be patient with them, but at the same time, the purpose of the project is to make readily available content and help expand peoples knowledge.
I guess the biggest thing I can say: don't really worry about the policy when you first start out. You kind of have this time period to make mistakes and then other editors will basically "teach" you the most important guidelines you need to know. When reverting, simply go with your gut:
  1. Do I know if it's wrong: if yes, then revert, if no then leave it for someone else because the recent changes page is constantly being stalked
  2. Is it obvious vandalism: if yes, then revert, if no then check if its
  3. Is it an addition to content: if yes, check for citations. if there is no citations with the addition, you can revert and cite a lack of citations, if there is then leave it be
Whenever you revert, make sure you ALWAYS warn the person you're reverting. If they are a regular editor, never template, but just write out a quick message stating why you reverted. WP:NTTR
P.S. Use Twinkle for vandal hunting, its the easiest thing ever and its built into Wikipedia. Even if you're on mobile. If you need help enabling it, just ask.
P.P.S. If you are using recent changes page to hunt (as you should), then you can change filters up to match your needs. Personally, when I want a slow day, I turn on the filter for "Likely bad faith" which filters everything out to being bad edits like 80% of the time. When I'm like "I'm ready lets go and catch all the shit today" then I use "May be bad faith" which is basically you just manually going through all of the pages that were edited, but wikipedia knows that it's not a "perfect" edit. Its a 50/50 on this one. Also, make sure you always have live updates on when you're on desktop, its way easier catching everything that way.
P.P.S.S. Vandals are typically IP addresses a lot of the time. When digging through, check for the following things
  • Section blanking tag (you will also notice a huge increase or decrease in bytes)
  • References removed tag
  • Check if its from an IP or user. Typically, vandals/citation errors are from IP's and users with a red link
  • Check for comments on the edit
Yeah that's about it for what I can think of Zekerocks11 (talk) 02:12, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
That is some great advice, thank you. I've been using Twinkle but only the basics. Someone else mentioned rollback when I switch to desktop which I didn't know about. WP:NTTR I didn't know about, although I don't think I would 'dare' just yet lol. I really appreciate the advice. You've given me a few more things to try out.
It's late here now so I'm away to my bed. If you think of any more helpful tips then please do message me as I need all the help I can get! Thank you, Knitsey (talk) 02:21, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
I was about to say if you're from england then its pretty late over there. If I can think of anything I'll say something in the morning Zekerocks11 (talk) 02:27, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Seems as though you're doing good with vandal reverting. Any questions? Zekerocks11 (talk) 20:31, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
I've just used Twinkle for the reverts AND the warnings and that's a heck of a lot easier.
When selecting which warning template to use will it suggest my most used templates first or is it just in any order? Also, I forgot to check but does it include one off templates like COI and the hijack template? Knitsey (talk) 20:36, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
It's a certain order. And yes it includes all single warnings Zekerocks11 (talk) 20:54, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Brilliant, thank you. Knitsey (talk) 21:19, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Locked and blocked accounts

...Don't sweat it, it's easy to miss a user has been blocked or locked. <advert> I use Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups, for that purpose and others </advert> (and the checkuser interface tells me automatically who is blocked and who is locked). Cheers. Salvio 16:52, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

I should have checked the status really but I will make sure I check next time.
Nav popups looks really useful. I will be back on my laptop in the new year. I've checked the box so when I do get my laptop it will be ready to use.
Thank you! Knitsey (talk) 17:02, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Congrats on your first SPI

I was looking over a few things and saw you reported your first and it looks as though you did a pretty good job there! Looks like you took WP:BOLD to heart Zekerocks11 (talk) 18:44, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi again. Tbf I did report it to an admin first hoping they would file it but they encouraged me to try it. Got a few minor things wrong but it went ok. Adding one to the same closed SPI was easier than I thought. I think it's more a case of getting used to how the interface works. Maybe?! Either way, thanks for the encouragement. Knitsey (talk) 18:48, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
And again, its perfectly okay to make mistakes when you first start out. This is one of the reasons WP:AGF exists, to protect people starting out. I am happy that the admin encouraged you to try it. I promise you, its okay to do things yourself, just have that extra faith in yourself to do those things. Zekerocks11 (talk) 18:52, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
I managed to mess up the AIV page when I did my first report there (it took 3 tries to get that right) which put me off but yes, it's just a case of trying and repetition. Knitsey (talk) 18:57, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
And that's why we use Twinkle lol Zekerocks11 (talk) 18:58, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
I need to try more of the features on Twinkle now that I'm getting used to it. The rollback feature will be quite helpful. Knitsey (talk) 19:00, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Twinkle does everything imaginable. AVI's take like 2 button presses on Twinkle. Go to the user's page, click ARV, and then you get a menu that you quickly fill out and then boom done. Warning people is as simple as clicking the warn button and clicking the right thing you're warning them for. Requests for page protection is the same, on the page just click RPP and fill it out. There's a button for everything Zekerocks11 (talk) 19:03, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Ah the page protection I didn't know about. I've done a couple but from filling out the form at the PP board so that's useful. I will try that next time I need to file a report. Knitsey (talk) 19:09, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Yeah it does like pretty much everything you need it to do Zekerocks11 (talk) 19:12, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
When I reported something to the copyright board there was anchor with the double curly brackets. I added it in as all the other reports had it when I looked at the edit history. Do you know what that does? Knitsey (talk) 19:14, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
It's a template. Templates are basically what Twinkle uses. When using a template, you have to fill out all the fields and then it'll automatically format it correctly. Zekerocks11 (talk) 19:18, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
When I added it to my report it didn't seem to make any changes? The reason I ask is because I didn't know it was needed on the first report but someone kindly edited it for me but it didn't seem to look any different? Knitsey (talk) 19:20, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
If you're using the visual editor, then Wikitext doesn't work. It only works when you're source editing. When visual editing, you have to select add a template from the dropdown menu. If that doesn't explain it then let me know Zekerocks11 (talk) 19:23, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Oh of course! I never thought of that. I'm pretty sure I used visual as it's easier then source for some things. Totally makes sense. Thank you.
I didn't want to ask some things at the Teahouse as I don't want to see all the eye rolling lol. Knitsey (talk) 19:26, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
The Teahouse exists to help people who don't know how to work Wikipedia lol. I'm free to answer questions as well though Zekerocks11 (talk) 19:28, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I do appreciate the time you've given for all the advice and encouragement. Really helpful. Knitsey (talk) 19:30, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Nothing else to do really. It's nothing at all Zekerocks11 (talk) 19:36, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Howdy I'm currently enrolled in Lancaster Highschool Ive experienced the major events that have gone down it that schools history I'm adding on to the page of what I know, along with taking down quotes and stories from my teachers there that know a little more history of the school thanks Ittss Just Chriss (talk) 18:05, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

You added unreferenced edits that didn't explain to readers what they alluded to. Any news about the school needs to be referenced with a WP:RS. The edit about the school paper wasn't the problem. Knitsey (talk) 18:09, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Recent edit to Bay City, Texas.

I'm failing to see how you consider a very popular Musical Artist from Bay City as an unconstructive edit. WickmanWickman (talk) 22:58, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) WickmanWickman, likely because the addition made no claim of notability. Generally, only people with Wikipedia articles are included in the lists of notable people from a location. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:02, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi there. Yeah, that could have been worded better. The reason I reverted was because, in Wikipedia terms, the band is not notable (red link). So where there are lists such as notable people, alumni etc then generally you would only include people with Wikipedia articles. Otherwise, lists would potentially become endless. Hope that explains it. Thanks, Knitsey (talk) 23:03, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
Please also see WP:USCITIES#Notable people. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:07, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Modesto High School

Hi, you deleted all the info I added to a school page about recent news. This is a topic that the community is wondering about and is trying to seek more information. Nothing I added was defamatory or slander. It is constructive as the school likes to be transparent and create a close like relationship with parents and information like I added helps that. Pls reconsider your decision 2600:1700:4C94:4130:B882:15C3:B070:75D8 (talk) 03:11, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

If you mean this edit [1] then you will need to add a WP:RS to reference the edit you made. Social media isn't a reliable source (you mentioned it in your edit). Knitsey (talk) 03:15, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

  • Good afternoon! I just edited the "non-euclidean geometry" page to include a section about my band of the same name. Did I enter the information wrong? I meant no harm, just wanted to add ourselves to the page! Please let me know if I can get us back up on the page :) 03:28, 8 December 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki4negband (talkcontribs)

Hi, the article is about non-euclidean geometry. Just because your band has the same name it's not related to the article subject. If you want you could try creating an article about the band. Hope this helps, Knitsey (talk) 03:32, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Edit to Southern Columbia High School

Hi - your reversion here actually took out some accurate information that could be verified through a quick web search. In the future please do some basic research before removing not yet sourced material from pages - thanks. Abeg92contribs 19:30, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

It's up to the person adding the info to provide the refs. I'm not chasing around after every uncited claim and doing their work. Thanks though. Knitsey (talk) 20:15, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Mr.weedle. I noticed that you made a change to an article, St Philip's College (Australia), but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! Thanks for that. Thought I was reversing it. I will pay more attention in future! Knitsey (talk) 04:26, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

Why did you revert my edits?

I don't understand why you reverted my edits. I realized that it uses incorrect grammar (the correct version would be "user:deepfriedtwinky wants to marry her") but for some reason you deleted the whole sentence instead of just fixing the grammar. DeepFriedTwinky (talk) 17:24, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

edits reverted

you reverted my edit of the wikipedia page for Orania. It incorrectly stated black residents were not allowed to live in the town, and gave 2 sources; one did not mention black residents and the other was outdated. I typed in the edit summary "removed false information that was supported by outdated and incorrect sources" but it was reverted anyway Patlov (talk) 19:35, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi Patlov. The references supported the section you removed. Are you saying that the situation in Orania has changed now? Knitsey (talk) 19:37, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
in this interview one of the officials says there's nothing restricting a black south african from moving and 'assimilating' or living there. Some other articles claim it's more about culture than race Patlov (talk) 19:44, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
A YouTube video wouldn't be suitable as a WP:RS, you need articles that state this has changed (not blogs or a primary source) then add it to the article or post the links on the talk page to discuss it.
Removing the situation that was isn't a course of action you need to take. You would need to leave the reliable sources and paragraph as it is then start something like ... in xxxx (date) the situation changed...etc.
I really recommend you post links on the talk page suggesting the changes you want to make with the links and wait to see who turns up to discuss it.
Hope this helps, Knitsey (talk) 20:06, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi Knitsey. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 02:02, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

FAAM

Hey - I did a little work on Facility_for_Airborne_Atmospheric_Measurements and I saw this [2] revert of yours - FAAM restyled itself in 2016 (its at the bottom of this page: [3] so now it's literally 'FAAM Airborne Laboratory' rather than being acronym. Are you cool if I update the title? (and indeed, do some rewriting on the whole page in general; it looks awful right now)

Joe (talk) 14:10, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Joereddington:, I have no problem with updates, I had heard of FAAM (through work) but I don't have enough knowledge of it to do any updates. So fill your boots. 🙂 Knitsey (talk) 14:19, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you! Someone gets it! ACmuisc (talk) 00:24, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

I really wish celebs would stop asking their minions to put weird junk in their articles. Joyous! Noise! 16:35, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

There is a minor celeb with the same name as an academic on Wikipedia and she asked people to change it so that she wouldn't keep getting confused with her 😐 I really do worry about some people. Knitsey (talk) 16:38, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Those people are worrying about us. Joyous! Noise! 16:41, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
I never thought of it that way around.
I reported someone earlier for asking on some drug lords talk page for them to expand into Africa. I'm clinging to the hope that it was a joke. Knitsey (talk) 16:47, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
I saw that. I was not amused... Courcelles (talk) 16:52, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Me neither, joke or not, I'm sat shaking my phone saying 'wtf, why would you'. The dog jumped. Knitsey (talk) 16:54, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
You're a little too new yet, maybe by about six months... but if you keep this activity up and the level of sense you exhibit the same, you might want to start paying attention to the workings of WP:RFA. And, you know, start blocking your own vandals. Courcelles (talk) 16:55, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
not Knitsey (talk) 16:57, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
A Knitsey (talk) 16:57, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
chance 😄 Knitsey (talk) 16:57, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Cesspit is an exaggeration but I've read through quite a few applications and it scares the heck out of me. But thank you for giving me a boost. That's always appreciated. I'm still a noob as far as policy and procedure is concerned. Maybe in 10 year. Knitsey (talk) 17:00, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
It used to be commonplace for a year to be plenty of editing. I think I passed with less months of tenure (but more edits) than you have. I don't blame you for avoiding what modern RFA has become, but wanting you to go before the gauntlet is purely selfish and wanting to do less work ;) Courcelles (talk) 17:08, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Aha! Ulterior motive. I'm getting there with how all the areas of Wikipedia interact. Someone has just helped with advice about CSD which has made things a lot clearer for me. I like to plod along and watch and learn. Learning what ticks off admins is the first phase. Knitsey (talk) 17:14, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
What ticks off admins? Very little. Which is different from what will get someone blocked by an admin ;) Which boils down to either a) being an obnoxious troll and b) failure to exhibit any common sense. And CSD is perhaps the most finicky thing admins deal with every single day (Arbitration and Arb Enforcement is worse, but easily avoidable.) Most of the criteria are still straightforward, but interpreting A7 has been a source of contention forever. Courcelles (talk) 17:21, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
I'm sure I will make some mistakes along the way but I do read and take on board any advice given. If there is ever something you think I'm missing the point of, I'm always happy to be advised. I find it all really interesting. Knitsey (talk) 17:29, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
I'm so old I passed with only 21 support votes, and I only had to answer three questions: RfA was so much gentler back then.
If you ever get bored with slapping vandals, we could always use your help at Project Merge, especially dealing with articles from deletion discussions whose verdict was "merge with some other article." It is very easy to confidently assert "THIS ARTICLE NEEDS TO MERGE WITH X," but strangely, most people don't follow through and actually do the work of merging. Joyous! Noise! 20:52, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
That would be something else for me to do. I will have a read tomorrow then come back with anything I'm unsure about if that's OK? Knitsey (talk) 21:04, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Michael Gallagher page edits

Knitsey ...

My user name is TeddyBones, but I AM Michael Gallagher (comic book writer) as written in your Wiki page. I replaced the content to provide more detail and correct inaccuracies. I have not used Wikipedia and am not particularly tech savvy so do not know what more to do to "legitimize" what I've written. It is all from my own experience. Please advise. I do not wish to have incomplete and inaccurate information written about me and I spent hours creating the revised post and making sure that the information about me and my family is correct..

In the meantime I will repost and provide a bit more info in the Edit Summary and hopefully my changes will not be removed again.

Thank you.

Hi there. The Rubettes featuring John Mick and Steve disbanded after Etherington left playing only for shows. This lineup was sued by Alan Williams. Please allow these edits for the sake of John ,mick and steve as use of The Rubettes name attached to them is in violation of the high court ruling. This can extend to third parties. Hey up!

Just popping in to say "hi". Any chance of a cuppa (Yorkshire, of course)? Technopat (talk) 18:11, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

From the world famous Yorshire Tea mines. Always got a brew on the go. Put wood int'thoil and pull up a Plank. Knitsey (talk) 18:13, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Many thanks! Been at least ten years since I had a real cuppa (long story...)! Could really do with one right now! (My sister-in-law's crazy German shepherd, who's known me since she was a wee puppy, bit me in the hand yesterday; serious bleeding ensued...). Her problem not mine, so you can tell yr collies (always loved 'em) an' cats (almost always been owned by one) that not only am I loveable, but I'm also a gr8 fan (as well as being a borderline tea addict...). Won't go so far as to say I prefer their company to that of many humans, but... If you need any further proof of my ability for AGF, I even have friends who are Miffys (Miffies?) yorkshiretea.co.uk. Regs., --Technopat (talk) 18:59, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Ouch! Hope your hand heals quickly.
I like my tea so strong that the teaspoon stands up on its own. I might be going a little overboard here but...Miffies have no place in this world, sorry but it's true. (Looks for reference) Knitsey (talk) 19:05, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Many thnx! Yeah, hurts more today than it did yesterday, but that's par for the course (at least this time I don't reckon I'm gonna need those pesky tetanus jabs... after all, it's "family").
BTW, I, too, used to be a stand-alone teaspoon kinda guy person, but I like to think Wikipedia mellowed me (?), so am now waaaay more tolerant than wot I once was... That, and having to ration my ever-harder-to-come-by (thnx Brexit!) supply of the life (soul?)-saving Rosy Lea. --Technopat (talk) 19:18, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Don't mention the dreaded B word, I will end up blocked. I'm the type of person who takes teabags on holiday. Everything else I love to go local, food, drink, culture, but I do love my tea. Knitsey (talk) 19:24, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
One of my fondest memories is the lovely old couple of retirees sitting down to enjoy their teapot cuppa (at teatime) at a campsite in the south of Spain (crazy heat... "Mad dogs an' Englishmen (women)..."). My fondest memory is that they invited us to join them! --Technopat (talk) 19:36, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
It's difficult to explain to people from outside the UK that if a Brit offers you a cuppa then it's the ultimate compliment. Although, we also like to judge people on how they make their tea, how they stir their tea and how they drink their tea. It is such a serious business. Knitsey (talk) 19:42, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Yep! And I greatly appreciated the compliment. Unfortunately it was their last day at the campsite... Ships that pass... Re "How...", durst I say "the stuff of religions"? Call me hidebound, but... --Technopat (talk) 20:14, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
PS. I hope one day to be able to pass that tradition/compliment on to a future generation... --Technopat (talk) 20:16, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
It is one immobile tradition that is forgivable, and a fine noble thing to pass on. Knitsey (talk) 20:20, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

Talk page stalker reply: Yeah, I get that, @KnowtheTruth22: but we have very strict rules about biographies of living people – we require reliable sources for this type of thing. That's because (a) we have no way of knowing you are who you say you are, and (b) being a relative of a person doesn't mean someone won't insert damaging lies about their husband/father/brother etc: "In 1988, Senator John Q Appleseed killed his boyfriend, I know, I'm his wife". So, to protect you, we're not going to allow this edit. Sorry. — Trey Maturin 17:35, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Vandalisms

It looks like you're interested in this so imma let you know a couple of things. I invite you with all my heart to go and look at what the user I was "impersonating" (Actually, I just had a similar username) is actually doing on Wikipedia. That user is a vandal that is perpetuating his hatred on the articles related to a singer, basing his over the top hating edits on LIES like this on both edit and edit summaries

Seriously look at THIS then check the source. You wanna be a patroller, I'm glad you want to. But if so, do your thing right and get him blocked too if you got Wikipedia in your heart. If u don't, you got It all twisted. Bye 5.90.50.222 (talk) 14:52, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

I reported you as impersonating another user. Which is what you tried to do. You should have taken this to the article talk pages. Knitsey (talk) 14:55, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
I didn't try to do s**t. I choose a similar username, that's different then impersonating. Look at the talk pages of those articles, then tell me what you see. I'll wait 5.90.53.228 (talk) 15:00, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
aren't you here because you want to stop vandalism? Stop it then. What that user is doing is vandalism, and that is as clear as the sun. There is no justification for you to do your best to block me, but not do s**t to block him. Don't act like you don't know that 5.90.53.228 (talk) 15:03, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
You made an account impersonating another user and used it to try and prove a point. Thats what I reported you for. You did that. Why not try one of the noticeboards to solve the dispute.
I'm going to ask you nicely to step away from my talk page and take it to the relevant board. Knitsey (talk) 15:05, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

I don't have better things to do today... do they not have The Repair Shop in Italy (where the IP resolves)? There was a new episode the other night on BBC-1. Who the hell would vandalise stuff out of boredom when they could watch experts repairing a 1920s tailor's dummy that survived the Blitz? People mystify me. — Trey Maturin 17:24, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
I LOVE the Repair Shop. I'm really getting old. Knitsey (talk) 17:26, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

In the last 10 years we've done Milan once [not a fan, too much car exhaust fumes], Turin five times [love love love] and Venice [a spider's web that I just learnt in a day somehow] three times, by Eurostar and TGV/Frecciarossa. Curtailed by that damn'd virus thing, but we will get around to going back soon. I'll need to brush up my decaying Italian again. In the meantime, I'm off to watch this afternoon's Repair Shop on iPlayer! — Trey Maturin 17:42, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
Northern Italy, I've not been much further south than Pisa. It's so beautiful. The Lakes are lovely. I loved Venice, I went in September and it rained nearly the whole time but I still loved it. Florence was busy bit it was so nice to visit. Enjoy Repair Shop, I will be catching up this week. Knitsey (talk) 17:49, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

It sure can, but it's just another task that needs doing. For the most part it's not too bad though, with tools and such, similar to how twinkle, redwarn, antivandal, and all the others help out a lot with recent changes patrolling. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:41, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
I had an accident last year which will take me a while to recover from. Thats when I started editing. I didn't realise just how much work everone puts into this project. It must be tye largest volunteer project in the world. Knitsey (talk) 20:52, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Thanks for helping me revert and report all of that WW2 German flag spamming IP addresses! 🛧Layah50♪🛪 ( 話す? 一緒に飛ぼう!) 03:00, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
I would love to know how many I found. I could only go back 500 edits and even though my filters trimmed that down, there will be some stray ones out there. At least they mostly made it easy to find them 88 characters (of course or 103. Knitsey (talk) 03:39, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
Me too.. My talk page also just got vandalized by those IP addresses. Even if some of those image vandalism edits are not found, someone will eventually remove them! :)
Once again, thanks for defending Wikipedia! 🛧Layah50♪🛪 ( 話す? 一緒に飛ぼう!) 04:17, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
I would like to add my thanks as well, I was away on vacation, so could take no action myself. --Licks-rocks (talk) 15:56, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
Not a problem. Lots of editors helped out with that spate of vandalism. Knitsey (talk) 16:00, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Great work against the hit radio spammer.   --WikiUser1234945-- (talk) 07:46, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. That one is so predictable as the name usually gives them away, although they do use ip's sometimes. Knitsey (talk) 07:51, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
The contributions can say it if only IP's are there. --WikiUser1234945-- (talk) 08:07, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
For sure. I'm guessing there is a history behind this one but I really can't be bothered to look it up. Knitsey (talk) 08:11, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
See de:User:--WikiUser1234945--/MDR-Troll for more information about the spammer. I hope the translator makes it understandable. Regards --WikiUser1234945-- (talk) 08:24, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
I never thought of looking on de.wikipedia. Well done you for finding it. Interesting about the possible link to another user as well. Knitsey (talk) 08:33, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

Changes at Noatak, Alaska

Hello, I've noticed that my contribution to Noatak, Alaska has been reverted because it's unsourced. Sadly, I cannot find a source of this, as it's kinda niche, but I think a natural phenomena like this is notable enough to be included on the page. My source are my own eyes, as I know people involved with the small circle of people interested in the topic, so I know it's true. Thanks :D — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.251.251.28 (talk) 11:29, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Mysterious skywritting would definitely require a reliable source, see WP:RS. The Sockpuppets were told this by numerous editors last time. Knitsey (talk) 11:44, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
The son of one of the researchers (and my friend) is writing an article about the topic for his high school's website news report. Would that count as reliable? SPR34D UR W1NG2 (talk) 08:05, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
Also can Wikipedia staff stop calling my friends trolls and accussing them of vandalism? They are very dedicated people sharing their life's work on here. Thank you SPR34D UR W1NG2 (talk) 08:10, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
I think you should ask for a second opinion at the teahouse [4]. You will need to include the full details of what you want to add to articles and what information you have to back up your claims.
Just be aware, a sockpuppet investigation was opened about your friends and they were linked, hence the ban. The shopped photo didn't help. Knitsey (talk) 08:17, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
The photo was added mistakenly by one of us out of confusion. It was a reference image created for a presentation, as actual images are really hard to take because of the nature of visibility of the anomally. The S.O.G.S system will eventually be updated in order to make photographs easier to take, but it's going to take a long time. Other images from the performance from a few years ago are legitamate, no idea why they were removed. Thanks for understanding! Also apologies for potential grammar mistakes, english isn't me first language and for the behavior of some friends of mine towards staff, I get that being kicked under the table constantly makes them mad, but some got a bit too aggressive. Cheers!

As I said, I think you should ask at the teahouse. Plenty of experienced editors will help you there. Knitsey (talk) 08:32, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
ignore this, knitsey, it's definitely trolling. ltbdl (talk) 08:36, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Talking from my mobile account here. I would like to appreciate Knitsey for being an editor who's actually willing to talk with people, instead of immediately dismissing them as trolls. Telling major Wikipedia figures to ignore someone, just because you think it's trolling...very mature of you. I wish more people were like Knitsey instead of ignoring discussions with people who just want to contribute. 37.48.26.9 (talk) 08:48, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm not anything major, nobody at Wikipedia is, and I do think you are part of the editors who are trying to introduce this nonsense into Wikipedia. But I could always be wrong so for the last time, I do think you should ask at the teahouse to get clarification. When you've asked there and gained consensus for the edit then it can be reinstated. Knitsey (talk) 08:56, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
I did ask. My post was immediately removed. Said editors who are "trying to put nonsense here" are my friends. I know about the topic at hand 37.48.26.9 (talk) 09:03, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
oh, great, now you've logged out. ltbdl (talk) 09:00, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Well yeah, I went outside and plan to stay at my friend's place, so I don't have my computer 37.48.26.9 (talk) 09:03, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
okay I realized that was dumb on my side. I realized I can just login on my phone. Apologies :P SPR34D UR W1NG2 (talk) 09:11, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

I don't know what this is in reference to? Knitsey (talk) 23:24, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Thanks for being quick to ask me if a newly-created account was an impersonator. I really appreciate it. Thank you!

Grumpylawnchair (talk) 22:24, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

I always like to check just to be sure. Found one once claiming to be an alt when they weren't. Knitsey (talk) 22:25, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
I started to be concerned after what happened with an impersonator of Spike 'em. Grumpylawnchair (talk) 22:47, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, from what I've seen on the new users page, a few editors have done what you've done. Knitsey (talk) 22:49, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
