Hi there, I see you are a new user. I hope you are having a good time. Please note that external links do not belong into the body of an article or in lists; have a read of WP:ELLIST. What's needed is that you turn those links into references; Help:Referencing for beginners might be a useful source for you. Do I take it that you are from Christchurch? If so, this meeting may be of interest to you. Schwede66 02:27, 9 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the tip and links to useful instruction. I will endeavour to update correctly with these guidelines. I am in Christchurch and am working with Heather Knox and Michal Klajban at Ara in our little Wikipedia group here but there is nothing like making mistakes to drive home exactly what I am meant to do! Ha! With those good people as co-workers, you sure are in good hands. Schwede66 01:57, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Will try to make tonight's meeting to get some more tips. KiwiKA (talk) 03:23, 13 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Kim Lowe

edit

The article Kim Lowe has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --- Possibly (talk) 04:05, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Kim Lowe moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Kim Lowe, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. --- Possibly (talk) 04:10, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for letting me know. I have added more credible citations to support this notable artist. Hopefully it is enough to have this promoted to published stub status in Wikipedia. KiwiKA (talk) 23:04, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Kim Lowe

edit

Hi. I think the notability of the above draft is pretty borderline. However, I recall seeing somewhere that she is in a public museum collection. if you can find two public museum collections, then notability is guaranteed. Private collections have no notability value and are usually not listed, as they're private. --- Possibly (talk) 20:26, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

PS: do you have any connection to Kim Lowe? I saw you were editing Ara Institute of Canterbury, which is where Lowe works. If you have a connection you just need to declare that on your user page, see WP:COI. Thanks. --- Possibly (talk) 20:31, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi. thanks for feedback. I am new to this as you can tell but am working with a small group led by more experienced WP contributors here at Ara to add our notable staff and alumni. I will take all this back to our monthly meeting as it will be good learning for me. Does the University of Canterbury "silence of the brush" exhibition not qualify as public enough as well as authoritative? Also surely the fact she won a significant award in the art world - would not that be enough for notability? I can also talk with our Wiki group about COI. I don't know Kim Lowe personally and have never met her though we work in the same institute. What would my COI look like in my talk page? Can you give me an example. Any feedback greatly appreciated. All good learning for me. KiwiKA (talk) 20:59, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Te Manahau (Scotty) Morrison

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Te Manahau (Scotty) Morrison requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Avon Heathcote Estuary, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Grey duck. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Christchurch Wikipedia Meetups

edit

Kia ora! For the first half of 2024 I'm the Aotearoa Wikipedian-at-Large, based in Christchurch and funded by a grant from Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand. As part of the project I'm running regular meetups in Tūranga where local Wikipedians can meet, chat, help each other out and collaborate on projects. I'll also be organising edit-a-thons, wikiblitzes, and training for new editors. The goal is to grow the editor community in Christchurch and convince local institutions that Wikipedia is worth taking seriously.

We're having an initlal coffee in Foundation Cafe on Sunday 18 February to talk about what Christchurch Wikipedians might like to do; come along if you're free, or drop me a line at mike rove.wiki if you have ideas or suggestions.

  • Initial meetup: Sunday 18 February, 10:00–12:00, Foundation Cafe, Tūranga

We'll be holding a Christchurch meetup every 4 weeks, modelled on the successful Wellington monthly meetups that have been a big part of growing the Wikimedia community in Wellington and New Zealand. These will be both a coffee chat and a chance for collaborative work in the library's 4th floor workspace. The first two will be:

  • Sunday 17 March, 10:00–12:00, Foundation Cafe, Tūranga (Event page)
  • Sunday 14 April, 10:00–12:00, Foundation Cafe, Tūranga (Event page)

You can keep track of upcoming events at the Aotearoa Wikipedian at Large Event page, see monthly reports at This Month In GLAM (e.g. January 2024), and join the monthly Aotearoa online meetup. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk)
