Whitby, again

Do you think that the article is OK to go to WP:GAN, yet? We seem to have tackled most of the points in the peer review. I'm away Sunday to Tuesday next week, but GAN doesn't usually work that fast.--Harkey (talk) 16:48, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Harvard referencing

I have not added the "ref=harv" to the {{cite book}} entries yet so that may be tripping you up. Take a look at Scarborough Castle which I converted from the style used on Citizendum to Havard type referencing. Keith D (talk) 17:27, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I assume that you have been trying to set up the two Obeyesekere references. I have done these for you and added a link to them from the text. The problem was that the {{cite book}} template used author rather than first/last that is used by the {{harvnb}} template to create the link.

I've converted most of the book refs to harvard, I think. I'd be grateful if you would have a look, though, please. I was very unsure of what I was doing. I would convert them and move them to a further reading type section if they are not actually used as references. May be they were used in the past and the referenced text removed or possibly used but not noted in the text. Keith D (talk) 19:25, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

You will have to explain exactly what you are trying to do as the new link is to a specific section. Also what do you mean by archives - if you mean all previous versions than you can just use the move tab at the top of the article (may be elsewhere depending on your skin). Darlington

Hi Keith can you have a look at the Darlington page for me please. You reverted an edit earlier today from ip user 82.69.46.113 and I've reverted the same change by this user up to the 3rr limit. this has been going on for a good few days and the editor appears to be using several probably dynamic ip's 86.150.195.74 - 86.150.196.165 - 82.69.46.113 - 82.69.48.222. It appears like a bit of self promotion is going on from a guy called Mike Patterson, he has no Wikipedia page and the same ip keeps adding a red link to the disambiguation page, also a google search shows up very little. I've messaged the editor informing him that he's in breach of the 3rr but am not sure of what to do from here, thanks Fraggle81 (talk) 16:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

need a correction

Hi, recently I moved an article to Konrad I, Duke of Glogów. I was doing some standard tagging and assessment so I was in a bit of an "auto mode" and when I moved these two I just copied the word as it appeared in the article. However, the word is actually misspelled in the article, it should be "Głogów" (as in Głogów). I don't think this is a diacritics issue since it already had one in the name. Anyway, I tried to correct it but because there's a redirect or something in place it won't let me do it. Could you move it to "Konrad I, Duke of Głogów"? Volunteer Marek  19:55, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Date Format

Hi, you changed the format of the dates I had put on the entry for Robin Windsor from eg 15th September to 15 September. I am not a native English speaker and was just curious if there is a rule on when to write formats in which way? I would appreciate your guidance. Thanks! The usual rule is to use day first format for most articles apart from those associated with America where month first dates are used. Usually when adding to articles you can just follow the established format of dates in the article. There is also templates {{use dmy dates}} or {{use mdy dates}}, which put article into hidden category Category:Use dmy dates or Category:Use mdy dates, on some articles that indicate the type of dates to use.

On the subject of ordinals on dates we do not use them so 15th October should always be written as 15 October. For more detail see MOS:NUM. Keith D (talk) 10:22, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Percy

I do not understand why your revert from Harry Hotspur to Henry Hotspur Percy? The latter is not a name known to history, whereas the former is. For some reason (not mentioned on the talk page) there is a block on moving this page without admin support, therefore my cut and paste. Sir Henry Percy, Harry Hotspur or Henry Percy (d.1403), but not this cannibalisation of a formal and nicknames 'Henry Hotspur Percy'. Brendandh (talk) 19:17, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

I reverted it because it was done as a cut & paste move which looses all of the page attribution. If you want to move a page use the "move" tab or request at WP:RM but never perform cut and paste moves. Liberal Democrats and tuition fees

Hi there. This IP editor has been systematically erasing all references to Liberal Democrats voting on tuition fees. I see you have reverted a few of these. The information added to all and i mean all of the Liberal Democrat MP articles is uniform and NUS biased. The information should be on the Liberal Democrat page and not on each and every single Lib Dem MP. Adding it to every Liberal Democrat MP and only to them and in some cases having at the only thing they have done since the Coalition is ludicrous and gives unnecessary weight to a single issue. The wording being identical and added by the same user also shows they had an agenda to put the information there in the first place. All i have done is simply tone down the POV on the relevant articles where the information is notable such as John Hemming and Vince Cable and removed the uniform NUS biased information which is only about one vote on one issue which is better covered in the main article on either the Coalition government or the Liberal Democrats. Adding the info only to LD MPs and having the information identical shows the information was only put there to be political and push a certain POV regarding the LD MPs. You appear to have a specific bias here in not wanting this information to appear and other information that you have removed on Liberal Democrats loosing their deposit on some articles. You have been reverted by a couple of editors on this so far and appear to be edit warring on this. Please do not continue to edit war on this. On the first revert I did I suggested that the information is relevant and should not be cut wholesale from the article as it was referenced. Fylingdales

I saw you reverted an IP on Fylingdales who was trying to convert the "civil parish" template following the closing of the associated TFD. From my reading of the discussion, it looks like we needed a "type" field, so I added it to the "UK place" template. Is there anything else we need to add? I am planning on having a bot assist with converting the rest, but I want to make sure we have everything in place so I don't have to revert the bot. We probably need a second image field as the parishes do not use the push-pin map but fixed maps showing the parish such as File:Anlaby with Anlaby Common UK parish locator map.svg. We also have nothing for the governance - parish meeting, parish council or town council. Think we are also missing link to web site for council. If you are doing it by BOT then it would be good to convert the co-ords to OS ref and fill in the OS ref field in the template. Keith D (talk) 23:04, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Second voyage of James Cook

This title redirects to that section on the James Cook article. I have a new article of that title brewing in my sandbox which should be ready to move by Wednesday p.m.. (I still have to put in more refs --and complete the provisions section, if they are not to starve to death!!)

• How do I stop the redirect?
• If you have time, please can you check it over for daft errors?

Hi, I thought that you had given up on Cook, I have been tweaking the First Voyage article. The redirect can be overwritten with your article by a cut & paste if you are not interested in the history. Otherwise it can be deleted and your sandbox version, with history moved across. Had a quick look through and appears OK, done a few tweaks on the way. Suggest you need a map at the top like on the first journey. Probably better use imperial, with conversion to metric, for consistency with the other articles and as metric would not be used then. Also the Rigby references are not linking in to the entry in the Bibliography section, probably because it needs the second author adding to each of the templates.
