Semifinals (swimming)

Hi! Don't you think we should have 1 wikitable for semis just like for heats. a random article. The sources used also have only 1 table, which makes it more clear who advanced with time. It would probably also avoid such mistakes as currently in Singapore article:

Athlete Event Heat Semifinal Final
Time Rank Time Rank Time Rank
Teong Tzen Wei 50 metre butterfly 23.51 14 Q 23.03 4 Q 23.29 8

While it should be

Athlete Event Heat Semifinal Final

2022 FIBA 3x3 World Cup

What's with the strange result tables, don't find it very reader friendly to figure out for a specific team which scores they obtained vs other teams. I get the point that listing the result for A vs B twice could be confusing, but now it seems random when the score is filled in A vs B rather than B vs A. Why not use a more friendly format like all results in topright corner (ie 1st in group always listed as home, last in group always as away) or always list the winner as "home"? Examples below:

RANDOM:

Pos Team Pld W L PF PA PD Qualification

@Pelotas: Because that's how FIBA set up the schedule. I just think we can't just change the format to make it look "better" or more "friendly". And i don't think it's hard to look at a specific result. Kante4 (talk) 20:35, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
I couldn't disagree more. There's no value in how FIBA set up the schedule, and we're just representing the same information in a more user friendly format. You might as well then just fill the full table. Pelotastalk|contribs 19:15, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
@Pelotas: Disagre about the no value about the schedule, then we can change them all over the place and make it how we want it. We need to agree to disagree than (which is not a problem) and may ask the basketball project for more input. Should i open a discussion there? Kante4 (talk) 19:21, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
Ok, what do you think about this below? Adds a more visual way of quickly seeing whether "home" or "away" won. Pelotastalk|contribs 19:52, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

2022 FIBA Asia Cup Final Standings

Hi, Chinese Taipei should be 10th and Indonesia 11th, since Chinese Taipei has a total points difference of -12 (Preliminary round -11, Final Round -1), and Indonesia is -58 (Preliminary round -8, Final Round -50). Please confirm and edit the changes, thanks! Jctk (talk) 16:42, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

@Jctk: Normally only the preliminary round counts. Kante4 (talk) 16:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
So why is it in 2017, Syria is over Iraq in the final standings, even if Syria is -14 while Iraq is -8 in the preliminary round? If considering the preliminary round + knockout round, Syria would be -19 while Iraq would be -22, and I assume this was used for the final standings there. Could that info there be actually wrong? Engr. Smitty Werben 17:29, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Engr. Smitty: Looking at the FIBA site they only list the first eight teams. So maybe the other ones should be removed as unsourced? Kante4 (talk) 17:32, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
I'm not entirely sure how to deal with that. It was easier until 2015 where there are classification matches even for the 15th place. Maybe we should just be consistent with our presentation of information for now, until (maybe) FIBA releases an actual final standings at the end of the 2022 tourney. Engr. Smitty Werben 17:52, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Engr. Smitty: I do believe the table should be hidden until we have a source. Kante4 (talk) 17:53, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Kante4 I believe the Final Round was indeed used in 2017, and therefore should be accounted for in 2022 as well. Jctk (talk) 17:39, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Jctk: Do we have a source for that? Right now we are (me included) just guessing. Kante4 (talk) 17:45, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Kante4 I don't see a source on the FIBA site. But 2017 was the first year where there were no clasification games for 9th-12th and 13th-16th, so it makes sense to use the "Rules for classification: 1) Points; 2) Head-to-head results; 3) Points difference; 4) Points scored" for all the games, final round included. Jctk (talk) 17:53, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Kante4@Engr. Smitty Also, both teams played both Jordan and China in the Premliminary and Final Round, and Chinese Taipei lost by -1 and -15, while Indonesia lost by -9 and -50. So Chinese Taipei should be ahead of Indonesia in this regard. Jctk (talk) 18:14, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Usually in that case, there would be a shared 9th (or whatever number) place for all of them. Pelmeen10 (talk) 19:42, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

@Pelmeen10 I agree, maybe this should be changed for 2017 and 2022, where there's a shared for 9th place and 13th place, instead of listing from 9th to 16th. @Kante4@Engr. Smitty Jctk (talk) 22:45, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

FC Schalke 04 head coach

Hello Kante4,

You have updated the head coach listed at FC Schalke 04 to "Matthias Kreutzer (interim)" in the info box, and just "Matthias Kreutzer" in the table in the "corporate structure" section. Unfortunately, that table now no longer agrees with the corporate staff listed in the sources, and the "as of" date given in the article is wrong. Officially, Kreutzer is still an assistant coach.[1] Personally, I would just leave it at "TBD" in both places, until a new coach is appointed. I have no problem with Kreutzer being listed in his interim function in the info box, but the corporate structure is a different matter, because as of now the information is inconsistent with the source, and the time listed (10 January 2022). Compare my two most recent edit summaries on that page's history. Just changing the date to something like 26 October 2022 doesn't help, because other members of the staff have changed positions in the mean time.

I have now marked that section as "to be updated". If you want to help with that, you're welcome! Renerpho (talk) 13:25, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

@Renerpho: Hey, i just added him as a coach and did not even see the "as of" template so my fault. Will be more carefully next time or just don't change the section(s). And yes, TBD would habe been better. Kante4 (talk) 15:30, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
@Renerpho: Even better, i updated it now (not sure if Reha coach is the correct term though. Kante4 (talk) 15:36, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Old results from Handball ECs

Because I have not a lot of time the next couple of weeks I write you maybe you have time to add this reports to the articles.

  • 31st place game
  • 29th place game
  • 27th place game
  • 25th place game
  • 5–8th place playoffs
  • 5–8th place semifinals

The numbers are written in digits.

Also we have the section headers:

  • Seventh place game
  • Fifth place game
  • Third place game

Thr numbers are written in words.

You know if there's a specific reason for this inconsistancy and not all are either in digits or words? --Sb008 (talk) 13:57, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

@Sb008: I normally don't "header" the second bracket. Numbers until 10 are written out per MOS (always thought it was 12/13, tbh). Fifth to Eighth place semifinals is pretty long and for many tournaments/events i used that format and never questioned it or someone so i never felt the urge to think about it. IHF table

Hello! Just curious, shouldn't the West Germany gold medal be assigned to Germany? When i look at the official IHF website, it states that Germany has been a member since 1950, proving that they consider the West Germany association as Germany. As far as I know, it wasn't dissolved, so the German handball federation inherits the West German medals. I understand why East Germany is seperate, since it was a whole different association. It also has Germany as the number 1 ranked federation, which wouldn't be possible without West German accomplishments. They have a very weird ranking system which combines results from since IHF was a thing. Would love to know your thoughts on this

@Speun: Yeah, West Germany = Germany. Kante4 (talk) 17:19, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Jesús Vallejo (and many many others)

Hi there, all well?

What about this guy? I think he may be a vandal! OK, Vallejo did not play in that tournament (LOL, he rarely ever plays!), but he was on the bench in the final! I have already reverted.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, from Portugal 2001:8A0:7643:2400:5506:56DC:AE7D:CF0C (talk) 16:17, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

@2001:8A0:7643:2400:5506:56DC:AE7D:CF0C: Slow down, don't take everything personal. :D Looking at the squad list, he is not listed here and not on bench for the final here. So he should not have the honour if i am correct (and i want him to play more, he is good like we saw in Frankfurt). Kante4 (talk) 16:21, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

OK, i think that i may be confusing that match with another BBC Sport report where i did see him on the bench (apart from yesterday's match, where his 15 minutes on the pitch did not compromise the final score). I have reverted myself, take care! --2001:8A0:7643:2400:5506:56DC:AE7D:CF0C (talk) 16:34, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

No worries. Kante4 (talk) 16:35, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

BIH vs MAS IIHF

I delayed adding the penalty totals because they appear to be incorrect. They made the same mistake in an earlier game but fixed it by the time the final summary was published. There are a few weird errors in other games too, but I am guessing besides you and I nobody much cares.18abruce (talk) 21:15, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

@18abruce: Probably. :D We can wait for the final report. ;) Kante4 (talk) 21:16, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

North Macedonia men's national handball team

On the page North Macedonia men's national handball team and some more pages, shouldn't it be pavle Atanasijevikj and Petar Atanasijevikj (twin brothers) instead of Pavle Atanasijevikj and Petar Atanasijevikj? See: Pavle and Petar Sb008 (talk) 02:30, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Never mind, forgot my glasses. --Sb008 (talk) 02:33, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Final standings in ice hockey articles

Hi Kante4. I think we could use section headings "Final standings" instead of just "Standings". I've been doing it this way for years. See this list; there are 100 articles in Wikipedia which contain tables with the title "Final standings". Maiō T. (talk) 11:07, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

@Maiō T.: I think it's not needed, same as we don't use it at NHL/DEL or whatever leagues we have. I was consistent with the previous years when i edited the articles (senior tournaments) and did not see it used by anyone editing with me (did not check edits made after the tournament was over for a day or two.)
