SOJHL edit

Hello. My name is Devan and I do most of the Ontario Junior articles on Wikipedia. I am glad that you are interested in the SOJHL... finally some help. I have been forced to focus on the OPJHL and GMJHL this year. I want to point out a couple articles that may help you if you feel like improving the SOJHL articles or its team's articles.

First... the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League.

  • Template with logo, founding date, and executive
  • A good and sourced history
  • Organized list of champions
  • A complete list of defunct teams
  • Up to date external links

Second... Durham Huskies Jr. A

  • Team template with logo, founding date, coach, gm, arena
  • Detailed history with sourcing
  • Complete w-l-t records
  • Up to date external links

The biggest struggle I've found is finding past standings from the SOJHL/OHAJDL/WJDHL... I've seen evidence that the London Free Press covered the league... and if so, there may be standings back to 1960 if lucky. If you can, please help... I'd like to hear what you think. i'm new edit

I'm quite new to editing and creating pages, so i have no idea what i'm doing

I used to work for the Port Stanley Lakers from about 1995 to 1997 full time, and part time off and on for a few years after that. If you find a copy of the picture from when they won the league title against Burford in 2000, I'm in that picture.

I'm currently the timekeeper for the St Thomas Stars of the Western Ontario Hockey League.

your sig and another suggestion edit

Hi there. Although I find it amusing, you may find people get into a bit of a twist over your signature (especially since you are reporting vandals to WP:AIV), so you may wish to consider changing it. The quote is appropriate for your userpage, though. Also, people usually put info about themselves (like what you have on your talk page) on their Userpage. And re: your comment on my talk page -- no problem! I actually reported the IP to AIV first, since they'd received a {{uw-bv}} warning earlier today, and then gave the {{uw-vandalism4}} warning. IP is blocked for a week. If you want to talk about any of this, leave a note on my talk page. Cheers! Flyguy649talkcontribs 06:02, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oops! I misread some of the above. It's not from you after all! (I was talking about the SOJHL section). Just ignore that part of my earlier post! And if you want a unique sig, you can always look at what other people are using and try different things. You can always test different sigs in a personal sandbox (or the Wikipedia sandbox). Cheers, Flyguy649talkcontribs 06:15, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:AIV formatting edit

FYI: The correct formatting is: "* {{ipvandal|ip_address}}". Thanks. --  Netsnipe  ►  06:17, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

re:reporting a persistant vandal edit

Hi again. Ummm... It looks like user:210.9.93.170's additions are unsourced. I don't know whether they're real or just vandalism. I'd probably have used {{subst:uw-unsourced2}} and gone through the series up to {{subst:uw-unsourced4}}, and then report to WP:AIV. There's a full list of usertalk page warnings at WP:UTM with instructions. You can click on any of the warnings listed and it will show you what they say. Let me know if you need further suggestions, but I'm about to go to bed. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 06:31, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

re: the vandal edit

i've removed all the vandalism he's left on other people's pages today...it's like he's got a weird obsession with a body part. Anyways, thanks for the help with Maverick423's page, and thanks for putting some warnings on this anonymous user's page Jru Gordon 06:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I've reported him now as well, so that should be the end of it. --Samtheboy (t/c) 06:57, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
i hope so. I'm new to having to report people. Is this where WP:AIV would have been useful? Jru Gordon 07:00, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, AIV is good, but make sure you leave suitable warnings on people's talk pages when you revert vandalism. You can use WP:UTM which gives a list of all the warnings you can give (I tend to increase one level unless they're blatantly vandalising in which case I skip a level). Also have a look at Anti-vandal tools to help with countering vandalism. I personally use Vandal Fighter to monitor recent changes more easily, and WP:TWINKLE so a) I get a rollback feature (revert multiple edits by a user in one go) and b) I don't have to remember all the warnings! Hope that helps somewhat. --Samtheboy (t/c) 07:04, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

oh... good question about the talk blanking page. i'm not really sure... my guess is, since it's their page, it's their right to remove the warnings. but i think bots like martinbot might use it to pay attention to the number of vandalisms. i really don't know the answer! Eliz81 09:30, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
ah HA! Removal of warnings

Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages, although archiving is preferred. The removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user. Deleted warnings can still be found in the page history. taken from here you're right. Eliz81 09:40, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, to answer this question, believe it or not. The User Warnings Project has set a date for "good etiquette", though it isn't necessary yet. If a warning was issued by accident, you Stike it out, if it was good, you leave it. Either way, it's "good etiquette" to leave it for 3 months, then it can be removed, either way, whether it was deserved or not. Also, I'm pretty sure that the user who received the warning, even with permission, isn't allowed to strike through the warning. Anyway, that's pretty much it. Have a good one! --HAL2008 talk 15:36, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

70.69.51.111/24.80.113.241 edit

More abuse from this IP on page Lauritz Melchior. IP is apparently in Alberta Canada. I see you made an objection before so I am wondering if I can ask you what is the appropriate procedure here? Thanks. -- Kleinzach 14:07, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your messages. 70.69.51.111 has again reverted the Lauritz Melchior page and has blanked his own talk page to remove your warning. What is the best thing to do now? Should I remove the infobox again, I wonder? Thanks. -- Kleinzach 08:18, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
just to let you know, I have reverted the edit yet again, have put a final warning on his talk page, and have requested Semi-Protection. I'll let you know how it turns out. Jru Gordon 08:44, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for letting me know. -- Kleinzach 08:52, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

More problems with this user, unfortunately. He is using IP 24.80.113.241 - which resolves to the same address in Alberta Canada - and is reverting infoboxes on Piotr Beczala, Frank Forest, and Florence Easton (though this last one has been reverted by someone). If you have a moment to have a look I'd be grateful. This is the first time I've known an abusive user change IP like this, so I'm not sure the best way to deal with it. Best. -- Kleinzach 07:11, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Are you crazy? edit

Vandalize? What's wrong with you?!? They're the ones vandalizing and they don't have a leg to stand on. Go ahead and block me - I don't give a flying fuck about this stupid site anymore when I'm called the vandal.
70.69.51.111 09:01, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Reply

Last time i checked, I'm not crazy, and there is nothing wrong with me. But yes you are vandalizing when you're constantly adding something that the Project Page says is not wanted. They say they do not want Infoboxes without discussion on the Talk Page. So don't add one.Jru Gordon 09:06, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
And on a side note, I will NOT block you simply because you request it. If you don't care about this site anymore, just leave. Bye. Jru Gordon 09:06, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh you're going to have me blocked? Go right ahead. This infobox had been on the article for some time now so it should be discussed if it's wanted taken down. There's many articles with the infobox and you people only seem to care about it on the few where no one will even notice it's gone.
70.69.51.111 09:09, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I removed your striking out of your first message. I did report you to WP:AIV and also make a request to have Lauritz Melchior Semi-Protected. The Project Page says they don't want them on the pages, so don't put one on it. It's simple. Jru Gordon 09:13, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

to anyone else reading this, he's been blocked for one day.Jru Gordon 09:15, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Um excuse me, I striked it for a reason. I was under the impression I was being talked to by an administrator and the second message I left was supposed to be right after it when I realized it was just you I was messaging, but when I tried to save there was an edit conflict because you left your message first. You don't make edits to people's messages.

Demon Warrior Koji edit

Two points on the tagging for this article: 1) You warned the user with the uw-afd warning instead of the more appropriate speedy warning, 2) If the creator blanks a newly-created page after I've speedy-tagged it, I don't even count it as an offense--I just re-tag it as a author-requested speedy deletion and move on. Thanks. --Finngall talk 19:14, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your VandalProof Application edit

Dear Jrugordon,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. Daniel 08:19, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the confirmation. Obviously, I can't use you as an official source, but (A) I couldn't find any confirmation of sisters, and (B) I figured that even if Kaczur did have kids, if there was no mention of them in his official bio--or a newspaper article specifically mentioning them--then there was no reason to mention their names, even if the info were correct.
