Image upload

Hi Joedesantis, your image upload File:CallistaGingrich.jpg had been tagged by someone else for speedy deletion as the source website is (C) ARR. After seeing the comment of the user who had uploaded the retouched image version over yours, I have changed the speedy-tag to a no-permission, which gives more time to check the status. I assume that you, being a professional communications director, know about copyright range etc. Therefore, it would be enough if you send a confirmation to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, stating that you (your agency whatever) has enough rights from "Doug DeMark Photography" to release this image under a free license. A concern

Without any intended malice or lack of assuming good faith, I have raised the question of your participation at the Newt Gingrich presidential campaign, 2012 talk pages. While other editors express a "what's the problem" attitude I am not so lenient. I acknowledge your candor and forthrightness in coming forward as the Communications director for the Gingrich campaign. I just have a problem with it. Your job will be to show Mr. Gingrich in the best possible light and to spurn and reject any negative comments or discussion trends. I would do the same in your position. This is to let you know that I have asked for an explanation of the COI policy at WP:COI/N. I have also raised the issue at Project:Conservatism. My apologies. I jumped the gun. I should have first checked your User page and seen your clear announcement of your position. I only saw your mention of it at the campaign talk page. Many editors have pointed out your straightforwardness as an example of honorable editing by an agent. I agree with their assessment. I further agree with Editor Naraht that adding Communications Director to your signature might be a transparent frankness on your part. While the existence of paid operatives at campaign articles is, to me, a cut-and-dry conclusion it is rare for them to admit it. Just FYI, if you did want to adjust your signature, Joe, up at the top right you'll see "My preferences". Click on that, and then scroll down this Preferences page and you will see that you can give a longer signature if you like. The longer signature will not appear on article history pages which give edit summaries, but it would appear at the end of your Talk page comments. If you click on the "Treat the above as wiki markup" box, markup may be used in the box, such that you could get a bit fancy with it looking like: Joe de Santis Communications Director, Gingrich 2012 (talk) You would have to hit "edit" on this page to see what the markup looks like that I just wrote there.--Brian Dell (talk) 00:34, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Need help clarifying

Hi Joe. If you haven't been driven off by the attacks, would you mind helping clarify one small point regarding Newt Gingrich and the 2012 campaign? There's a small, slow-moving edit war in progress on the main presidential campaign and primaries pages as to whether he is "from" Georgia or Virginia. Everybody knows, of course, that he represented Georgia in Congress, but he has reportedly lived in Virginia for several years. His FEC filing shows a Georgia address, but that probably represents the campaign (the similar line on Jon Huntsman's filing showed Orlando, Florida). I would think that for election purposes, we should show the state of legal residence – the state of which the governor, if chosen as his running mate, could not receive the electoral votes of the state's electors voting for Gingrich himself. A minor nit indeed, but something I would hope you could clear up rather easily, with some reasonable sources. TIA. Fat&Happy (talk) 20:11, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Behind the 8 Ball

As I'm sure you are aware, I don't and will not attack you. Other editors may interpret my questions and a pursuit of answers as attacks but that is the self-imposed limitation of those editors. Paid operatives are not a new issue w/ me. I spent many long hours at the Sarah Palin article, in 2008, in discussions about that very subject. The existence of campaign staff members at the articles about the candidate for which they work is a foregone conclusion. I respect the fact that you came forward. Wikipedia is too good a free source not to embrace as a vehicle. I have no gripe against you. I just can't see how you can do your job and still remain impartial. If your title was Comm Dir for the Republican Party I might grasp the possibility. I have no beef as long as you remain transparent. I have no beef if edits by volunteer editors, that germinate from Gingrich HeadQuarters, are clearly noted as such, at least at the talk Page. One last thing about the article. It mentions a changing of staff personel somewhere along the line. But then no mention is made of re-staffing. The reader is left in the dark as to how many, which positions, etc. The impression I get is that there was a major shift in direction and new staff people came on board...but no mention is made of it. BTW...Were you a part of that changeover? FYI...I am not a REP or a DEM. I am a libertarian (note the small "ell"). ```Buster Seven Talk 06:28, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

The CNN Story

Joe, I thought you might enjoy this article coming to your defense. I've also been correcting people on Twitter. Though clearly it's a drop in the bucket compared to CNN's readership and corrections rarely have the same voice as a train wreck.

I just posted a comment on the blog that CNN's level of misunderstanding is alarmingly common. I guess you could say I'm Assuming Good Faith on CNN's part. But there is an overwhelming relevance that Newt recently humiliated CNN at the debates. Then, not long after, CNN comes out with a misleading story on a similar topic. WP:COI is a behavioral guideline. It is not a policy. It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply. It DOES NOT state, Joe, that you are REQUIRED to use a "request edit" tag: it says that you are strongly encouraged to use one when requesting edits on the article's talk page. Steven Crowder

I am trying to establish a fair and accurate page for Steven Crowder who is an avid supporter of Americans for Prosperity, but feel I am being Wiki-bullied by editors who have a personal dislike for him and want to include libelous/POV comments about him.
