Mentor feedback for Chusky draft edit

Hi James, I'm so glad that you've reached out! I've taken a quick look at your draft and I think this is a very solid effort. It gives a clear overview of what a Chusky is and some key information about the breed.

The main feedback I would give is to review Wikipedia policy on notability to make sure your article covers a topic considered notable (worthy of an article). For dog breeds, see WP: Notability (breeds).

Content:

  • Try to find more references to support the notability of this breed. An example of a good reference would be a notice from the American Kennel Club indicating their recognition of this breed.
  • The history section discusses the Chow Chow and Husky in detail, but could use some more information on how the Chusky came to be: who first bred them, how popular are they, etc.?

For future reference, here are some things to keep in mind. Wikipedia has its own Manual of Style that provides guidelines on how to format and compose content.

  • Title:

You might be able to simply name the page Chusky or Chusky (breed). Per Wikipedia guidelines on article titles, you just need to make sure it's clear, recognizable, and distinct enough from other pages. Since no other pages are named Chusky, it is unambiguous enough.

Note also that titles on Wikipedia use sentence case.

  • Introduction:

You can delete the Brief Overview heading, as it serves well as the introduction or lede section. The word Chusky should be in boldface. I also suggest using simple words (dog instead of canine) as Wikipedia is intended for a general audience.

  • Headings:

Regarding headings, on Wikipedia, they are written in sentence case (i.e. Breed history). Try to avoid repeating the page title in the headings, as it is clear from context you are discussing Chusky history and health.

  • Links:

Double check to make sure the links go to the pages you want them to go to. For example, Canine, guarding, grooming and muzzle currently lead to a disambiguation page, which is used to orient people to pages with that can be confused with one another.

It is not necessary to link most simple words (e.g., mystery, strength, body), as most people would know what they mean and they won't need the information in those pages. (See: overlinking)

  • 'Images:

Make sure the images are free to use, remix, and distribute.

Use sentence case in the captions.

Thanks again for contributing! If you have any further questions, I'm happy to clarify, and if you need help on carrying out any edits, feel free to let me know. Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 00:22, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
