Arsenal/Arsenal Ladies

edit

Please stop making detailed additions to the Arsenal F.C. article about the ladies' team. There already exists a full article dedicated to the ladies team at Arsenal L.F.C., where your edits would be more suitably placed. Thank you.

1 If you mention the quadruple, you should have mentioned all four trophies, which you didn't in the first edit. I'll admit that the current version is better than my initial entry.

2 The Arsenal page isn't yours and yours alone and I'll edit and add to it, along with the rest of the world if I want to!!

"The Arsenal page isn't yours and yours alone and I'll edit and add to it, along with the rest of the world if I want to!!"
And conversely, the same applies to your edits, which did not meet the standard of a featured article, in my opinion. Qwghlm 08:34, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please don't blank your own talk page

edit

Hello. In case you didn't know, it's considered bad wikiquette to remove content from your own talk page that others have placed there. It's like a record of what people have talked to you about - if the stuff is offensive or highly personal you can remove it, but things like warnings or welcome notices (or even past discussions) should be left alone for archival purposes. If your talk page gets too long, the approved method of removing content is to archive it, preferably with the Move method. Thanks. If you have any queries or need inspiration for something (say, a user page?), don't hesitate to ask me/steal my stuff. —Vanderdeckenξφ 18:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem, just a reminder! Welcome, and see you around. —Vanderdeckenξφ 10:15, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Page protection

edit

Hello - I saw you added a semi-protection template to private investigator. You may not be aware of this, but adding the template does not protect the page. An administrator needs to do that. Given that there does seem to be some ongoing vandalism from brand-new accounts, I've semi-protected the page for 4 days and altered the template accordingly. If this continues to be a problem, you can contact me or go to WP:AIV or WP:AN/I to request administrative assistance. MastCell Talk 17:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your user page

edit

Hey, just wanted to tell you that the comments made by the two "new" users weren't on your talk-page but on your main user-page. You might want to blank it to get it back the way it was. Cheers Terper 19:13, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

To follow up, Bollocks2you (talk · contribs) has been indefinitely blocked by another admin already. I've warned Moore321 (talk · contribs); if he/she continues to behave inappropriately, let me know or report them to the vandalism noticeboard. Happy editing. MastCell Talk 20:35, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much to you both! This was a spammer trying to get advertising onto a page, which I had to delete a couple of times. --hydeblake 08:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just an update - this issue is now solved: Bollocks2you (talk · contribs), Moore321 (talk · contribs) and Shirtlifter (talk · contribs) have all been indef blocked, for sockpuppetry, offensive usernames, WP:SPA and harassment. —Vanderdeckenξφ 18:00, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks to you Vanderdecken and to everyone else who helped me out with this! --hydeblake 08:17, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Garryowen

edit

Hi, Can you let me know why you deleted a perfectly good chunk of material I had put up onto the Garryowen page? The article is now much more balanced and includes more of the early history, rather than just being a brief history of its connection with the US Army. --hydeblake 11:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, let's be clear about that, I didn't DELETE any material, I simply REVERTED the article back to its original state before your edits. It seems all your additions are not supported by in-line citations. Don't worry, I won't revert it back anymore, but do append citations to your edits. -- • Kurt Guirnela •Talk 03:01, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's fine - by a request for in-line citations to be included would be better than deleting without any explanation!

Can't you read? It wasn't deleted, it was reverted. It's a simple task of reverting it back and appending your citations. And please sign your posts. -- • Kurt Guirnela •Talk 08:18, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

What a silly question – of course I can read! That is why I put things into an online encyclopaedia! Delete or revert – same difference. You removed something without thinking about what you were doing. My original point still stands: if you had asked for in-line citations or referencing, then that would have been a far better way of doing it instead of removing the text. I know how to revert - which is exactly what I did after your actions, which I think were unthoughtful and unnecessary. --hydeblake 14:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well now... when you made those edits, you were an unregistered user. How could I "request" you for in-line citations when you might be using a dynamic IP? Now it seems you are a registered user, so your contributions will be "respected" by other usrs. What else do you want me to say? If you feel offended, I should tell you that this sort of thing happens all the time, don't let it affect you, simply revert the edit if you find it out of place and go on with your contributions. -- • Kurt Guirnela •Talk 07:08, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm, interesting. Actually I was registered and if you look at the History log, you'll see that for yourself! --hydeblake 08:33, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Private Investigator

edit

Look up 'Spam' on wikipedia, we have not spammed. If you allow links to organisations like the IPI and ABI, WAPI etc, it is only fair that we can link too. These are private members clubs, not professional bodies as suggested, and therefore should not be described as such. Left unsigned by Moore321 on 21 May 2007

They are not private clubs at all. They are national and international associations. This is SPAM and will be treated as such. Please also sign your messages on talk pages. --hydeblake 16:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

You might want to re-tag this image, unless you took the photo yourself 62 years ago, as it may contravene copyright law. I'd suggest that if it was an Army photgrapher then {{PD-BritishGov}} might be appropriate. If it's a press photograph, then you'll need to track down who took it and tag it appropriately. I've seen this picture on the cover of a book, Slim, Master of War, so that would probably give a source. Hope this helps. Leithp 10:19, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Private investigator

edit

Hi,

I think I'm right in saying you added the wikified tab to the private investigators page. Whilst I agree with it being there (the whole page is a mess really!) I'm relatively new and haven't worked on a large existing piece before. Firstly, is there any particular etiquette I should follow. Secondly, the Wikified tab refers to "especially its section layout": what do you suggest could be done to improve the layout? --hydeblake 14:05, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

That "section layout" bit is irrelevant. But all the general wikification guidelines apply. Cheers, --unforgettableid | how's my driving? 01:40, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:George MacDonald Fraser.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:George MacDonald Fraser.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Unspecified source for Image:Major_General_Craufurd.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Major_General_Craufurd.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? OsamaK 11:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ned Hanlan

edit

I read your additions to the Ned Hanlan article. It looks pretty good. Even though you added three books as sources, the article would be much improved if you made inline citations to these books rather than just listing them as reference sources. This would be in keeping with the referencing method already in place for this article. Right now there is no way of knowing where the information comes from. Proposed deletion of File:Robert Craufurd.jpg

edit

The file File:Robert Craufurd.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
