Adamson

Hiya, this source says Adamson is eliminated. And without getting too deep into it, I dont see any path they have into the final four. TheCoffee (talk) 10:42, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

I saw an Inquirer report of the same event saying they are "on the brink of elimination" so unless someone else doesn't outright claim that they are eliminated they should be denoted as still in contention.

In either case, the fourth placed team has 6 wins. Adamson has 4 wins, and has 2 games left. The UAAP always has a playoff for #4 if teams are tied on that spot. –HTD 13:31, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Adamson cannot tie the #4 seed anymore. While its true that they can still get 6 wins, they still won't be able to make the Final Four. Both Ateneo and UST have 6 wins already, meaning the lowest win total of either team would be 7 wins since since they will still face each other. Tagalog help needed

Hello Howard the Duck (great movie btw), I'm contacting you because we need some Tagalog translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on tl.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. There are 2 schools of thought currently in translating into Tagalog when using computer/technological jargon:

1. Use pure Tagalog. However, this may look too formal or even silly for an ordinary man on the street. I knew people who LOL upon seeing Facebook's Tagalog translations.
2. Use Taglish. The ordinary man on the street is comfortable reading/writing in this setup, but is generally frowned upon in formal writing.

For example, the word "stub" in Tagalog is "usbong". The thing is, until I saw it on the Tagalog Wikipedia, I dunno "stub" translates into "Tagalog"; an ordinary Tagalog speaker may have an idea that "stub" means something tiny. –HTD 12:39, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Hey Howard, I'm talking to User:Sky Harbor about the same thing. We have a request here for a Taglish interface version - if that's the way tl.wiki regulars think is best, that's the way we should go. I'll speak to the developers about some options - i.e. having two interfaces (Taglish and formal Tagalog) and letting the user decide which (although one will have to be presented as the default, and the other as a preference option, I believe). Thanks. Though honestly, any Tagalog speaker (say 90%+) who accesses the internet wouldn't need Tagalog translations. Islamic/Moro insurgency

Hi HTD, I've carried out the move of Islamic insurgency in the Philippines to Moro insurgency in the Philippines as you requested, but cleaning up the article itself after the move is going to take more than just replacing instances of "Islamic" with "Moro" (indeed, that's not even feasible). Feedback needed on using special characters

Hello. Thank you for using VisualEditor! Having editors use it is the best way for the Wikimedia Foundation to develop it into the best tool it can be.

While we always welcome general feedback (please report any issues in Bugzilla in the "VisualEditor" product or drop your feedback on the central feedback page on MediaWiki.org), the developers are especially interested right now in feedback on the special character inserter. This new tool is used for inserting special characters (including symbols like ₥, IPA pronunciation symbols, mathematics symbols, and characters with diacritics). It is intended to help people whose computers do not have good character inserters. For example, many Mac users prefer to use the extensive "Special Characters..." tool present at the bottom of the Edit menu in all applications or to learn the keyboard shortcuts for characters like ñ and ü.

The current version of the special characters tool in VisualEditor is very simple and very basic. It will be getting a lot of work in the coming weeks and months. It does not contain very many character sets at this time. (The specific character sets can be customized at each Wikipedia, so that each project could have a local version with the characters it wants.) But the developers want your ideas at this early stage about ways that the overall concept could be improved. I would appreciate your input on this question, so please try out the character inserter and tell me what changes to the design would (or would not!) best work for you.

The "insert" pulldown on the task bar of VisualEditor will lead you to the '⧼visualeditor-specialcharacterinspector-title⧽' tool.

This is the ⧼visualeditor-specialcharacterinspector-title⧽ inserter as it appears on many wikis. (Some may have customized it.) Your feedback on this tool is particularly important.

Issues you might consider:

• How often do you normally use Wikipedia's character inserters?
• Which character sets are useful to you? Should it include all 18 of the character sets provided in the wikitext editor's newer toolbar at the English Wikipedia, the 10 present in the older editor toolbar, or some other combination of character sets?
• How many special characters would you like to see at one time?
  • Should there be a "priority" or "favorites" section for the 10 or 12 characters that most editors need most often? Is it okay if you need an extra click to go beyond the limited priority set?
  • How should the sections be split up? Should they be nested? Ordered?
  • How should the sections be navigated? Should there be a drop-down? A nested menu?
• The wikitext editor has never included many symbols and characters, like ℗ and ♀. Do you find that you need these missing characters? If the character inserter in VisualEditor includes hundreds or thousands of special characters, will it be overwhelming? How will you find the character you want? What should be done for users without enough space to display more than a few dozen characters?
• Should the character inserter be statically available until dismissed? Should it hover near the mouse? Should it go away on every selection or 10 seconds after a selection with no subsequent ones?
• Some people believe that the toolbar already has too many options—how would you simplify it?

The developers are open to any thoughts on how the special character inserter can best be developed, even if this requires significant changes. Please leave your views on the central feedback page, or, if you'd prefer, you can contact me directly on my talk page. It would be really helpful if you can tell me how frequently you need to use special characters in your typical editing and what languages or other special characters are important to you.

ITN/R

I assume you want NCAA basketball added to ITN/R. As such, I am going to point out it is in our best interest to have Boat Race listed as it kills the main argument of "no amateur sport". I will also add that I am unimpressed 57's close. First, it wasn't "equal numbers" it was 8.5 + you to 6. Second, the arguments of the opposers were thoroughly refuted. Third, several of the opposers are non-regulars who showed up specifically because they were upset at seeing it on the mainpage (those happy to see it were much less likely to be spurred into action). Later in the year, I will renominate it after more cultural based changes to ITN/R go through and expect it to pass easily then. It truely was hurt by the poor timing of the nomination. --ThaddeusB (talk) 13:26, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

I'm didn't even mention the NCAA nomination. I didn't bring that up when I questioned the close on the Boat Race. I'm questioning if the level of consensus was enough. ITNR's mandate was that consensus should be high enough that it would breeze through a normal ITN/C nomination. The NCAA tournament won't cut that. The Boat Race didn't cut. Several items in the list won't cut. That's why I was open to purging everything except for those which have clear consensus to stay. That's my point when I argued about the close, nothing else. I didn't even question about the NCAA nomination as that was done correctly, assuming the closer knows that the consensus mandated should be high enough, but even if s/he didn't, it clearly wasn't high enough. –HTD 13:33, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

I believe the requirement is only that it is likely to be posted each year, not that it is likely to breeze through each year. If you look at the ITN/R page it uses language like "an attempt to standardize which get included" and "assists editors in ensuring a reasonably balanced coverage" and nothing about high levels of consensus. --ThaddeusB (talk) 13:41, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

I can't find the original discussion, but I do remember that the agreement in 2008 was that the requirement that "we shouldn't have a discussion of this same shit every year when we're going to post it anyway". Now, consensus can change, and now we have an ITNR list in which someone always has a beef against one or more items. This isn't recommended. –HTD 14:01, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

The original discussions appear to be here and here. I don't really see any discussion of inclusion criteria - just discussion over which sports were worth including. Needless to say, the criteria have weakened considerably since then when it comes to sports (i.e. a lot more are listed now), and particpiation is higher now... TBH, there hasn't been an inclusion criteria at all at any time. People even used to sneak in items on the list, then removing it would've been close to impossible (Gaelic sports). Hey, that feature is just horrible. I noticed that it messes up the template/boxes in the under-17 FIBA tournaments for example. So, can't you make the changes the "normal" way please? Check the history to see what i mean. Kante4 (talk) 18:16, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

I saw your discussion with some other users in the Philippines national football team talk page and I liked the updates that you were proposing for the article and liked how you handled the objection of the other users, so I went ahead and checked out your user page. Seeing that you seem to be a great contributor on Philippine related topics, I was wondering if you'll be interested in a project I am currently starting. I'm trying to start a Philippine football task force to further improve the Philippines related football articles on wikipedia and seeing as you're quite diligent and knowledgeable about the topic, maybe you'd be interested in participating in the project. Updates

WP:LIVESCORES prohibits it, but i'm not enforcing that rule. What I'm saying is if you're adding quarter scores, you should add the running score too. It's like a footballbox listing the goalscorers but not the goals per team. –HTD 11:59, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

But some people would think that the game is over (even with a mention what time is it). And it was never done and just causes confusion. Even IP's and new editors don't add running scores, so i'm confused why you want it (you are doing a good job overall, so that should not be a dealbreaker for us ;)). In football it's actually quite easy to do this but they clamped down on it. It's worse in basketball as the score changes all the time. Like I said, my position is if there'd be quarter score updates, there should be running score updates too. –HTD 12:36, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
