Citizendium approved errors

Hi Hayford Peirce, you could have avoided that misunderstanding by reading the page a bit more attentively. I have replied to your comment on the talk page (as did someone else).

Here, I'd just like to remind you that your constabulary authority to "play Bad Cop" (as you described it in your comment) is restricted to Citizendium and certainly does not apply to Wikipedia user pages. I invited additions to the list, but I ask you to not to delete content from it without asking me, even if you do not like it because it paints Citizendium in an unflattering light.

Of course, your comments are still welcome on the talk page (even if they should be a bit "grouchy" - I don't mind a direct manner of speaking if someone has interesting things to say).

About Waldo Peirce

Bonjour Mr Hayford. Je suis en train de traduire pour WP fr l'article sur Waldo Peirce, et je me demandais si nous pourrions bénéficier sur WP fr aussi de votre autorisation de publier le sublime (c'est mon appréciation personnelle) tableau Silver Slipper.

Par ailleurs je me pose à propos de ce tableau quelques questions : quel est le titre exact du tableau ? Quelle est sa date de création exacte ? Est-ce Waldo lui-même (homme barbu, avec gros cigare), que l'on peut voir dans le coin gauche ?

Pensez-vous que nous pouvons publier les noms des épouses de Waldo Peirce (celles d'Hemingway sont abondamment citées) ?

Enfin (vous savez qu'en France on est assez chatouilleux sur le chapitre des décorations) existe-t-il une référence exacte au sujet de la Croix de Guerre que Waldo Peirce a reçue après Verdun ?

D'abord, il y a un article beaucoup plus complete a http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Waldo_Peirce. Vous avez le droit de prendre tous les images et renseignments de cet article.

Je crois que le tableau est connu tout simplement comme "The Silver Slipper" ou "Dance Hall at the Silver Slipper", je ne suis pas absolument sur. Ni la date. Oui, Waldo est le barbu. Hemingway est au bar.

Les noms de ses epouses? Oui, certainment -- tous les quatre sont cites dans l'article a Citizendium.

La Croix de Guerre est cite partout, mais je demanderais a un type qui est expert sur ce sujet de me donner une reference exacte -- certes il l'a actuellement recu.... C'est possible que j'ai un photo quelque part...

Hi, thanks for message. If you post an article it will be assessed as it stands; if you don't want that to happen, you should write it as a draft. The nominator tagged the article for lack of notability, promotional tone and copyright. I felt that the article failed on the neutrality criterion, so I didn't check the copyright status. I accept that that criterion as stated appears to be incorrect.

Nevertheless, I think there may still be an issue because so much of the article consists of attributed quotes of copyright material. As a rule of thumb, not more than ten percent of the article should be copied text.

I deleted your article because it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact or non-neutral tone include: by far the best-known American tennis coach of the first half of the 20th century... influential book... almost uniquely successful as a coach.... an achievement that almost certainly has never been matched since... An innovator of many coaching techniques... a very successful line of tennis rackets that were widely sold for nearly three decades...—and so on

Problems with copying text without checking mean that as well as importing the tone, you are perpetuating errors such as Thorough his long career.

Note that if you want to repeat a ref, you should use <ref name = NAME> reference </ref> at the first occurrence, and <ref name=NAME/> thereafter.

Thanks for all the informative info. I used to do a lot of stuff at WP and I was aware of most of these standards. Those at CZ are/were somewhat different. The CZ article, as long as it is, was actually never finished, so I hadn't done a final clean-up on it. If you would sandbox it here at WP, then I will get into it eventually and clean it up. Thanks! Ways to improve Anything for a Quiet Life (short stories)

Hi, I'm Gab4gab. Hayford Peirce, thanks for creating Anything for a Quiet Life (short stories)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. None of the sources used support notability of the book. It would help to add references to independent reliable sources which are about the book rather than the author.

Image on Commons subject to disclaimers

File:Les ingrédients d'une mayonnaise.jpg on Commons appears to be "subject to disclaimers" due to an old mixup, making it more difficult to use freely. Would you agree to license the image under GFDL 1.2 or later, without disclaimers? —Guanaco 02:11, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

All it looks like to me is that I'm saying that anyone can USE the picture, BUT that they have to say that *I* took the picture. I don't think that that is too much to ask. I would be even MORE shocked if I ever got this right! To ME, it simply SOUNDS better when speaking English to say "an 'achis'" so that it really comes out as sounding like "an nachis". But, of course, like most people, there are probably MANY words that I mispronounce. Years ago it took a Chinese girl from Beijing to correct my pronunciation of "pharmaceutical". And I used to argue with people about the pronunciation of Cyborg and Caucasus. But at least, unlike a number of our revered Presidents, I DO know how to pronounce Nuclear. And the esteemed Gore Vidal admits in the introduction to his book Palimpsest: A Memoir that until he started the book itself he had always grossly mispronounced it. Hi, I noticed your edits to American folk music revival. You changed some url-status parameters to deadurl, but that parameter has been deprecated in the citation template. The correct parameter is url-status=dead or url-status=live now. A bot was approved last September to make the change (see here. Could you change deadurl back? Thanks! Shepherd's pie

Yes, there are people who think they know THE TRUTH and apparently don't check the existing sources to see what they say. Another case like this was on the whipped cream article, where some people insist that crème chantilly must include sugar and vanilla, though there are plenty of sources in the article showing that that's not true.

As for the box formatting, apparently someone decided that the cute formatting with the big quotation marks wasn't sober enough. But having no framing at all makes it hard to read the page. --Macrakis (talk) 16:18, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

I'm content with your editing of my Wolfe additions of the past few days. One glaring omission from the text is any extended discussion of Wolfe as a gourmand. I hope to post additional material on this topic within the next few days although I don't regard myself as a qualified "foodie."

It was removed by another editor who indicated: 1. Introductory passage is too long 2. Citing wordy headers in other flawed articles doesn't solve the PoV and clarity issue here at all 3. It's far too long and sounds like a promotional blurb. When you've finished expanding the article body I plan on discussing the cheerleading PoV there too. If we need to start citing WP policy that's ok.

Hayford, I value your opinion, what do you think about my edit? FYI the Wikipedia articles on Thomas Jefferson was 250 words, Abraham Lincoln: 147 and the Wright Brothers: 199 words. Bzuk 12:40 22 January 2007 (UTC).
