Removal of part of talk page

edit

It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Wikipedia talk:Railway line template‎. Please be careful not to remove content from Wikipedia without a valid reason, which you should specify in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Take a look at our welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.  – Tivedshambo (talk) 13:42, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've reported the problem on the Technical Village Pump, and reading other discussions, it seems that other similar problems have been occurring, possibly due to server problems. Therefore this blanking was not your fault. – Tivedshambo (talk) 18:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Railway Route Maps - Obsolete Icons

edit

Keep up the good work replacing the now deprecated STB icons. I was not aware that this was now the case. Having missed the relevant discussions. Yon may find using a bot might help you to streamline this activity. Please take care not to over widen route maps as you did with the Alloa Railway. A group of us are currently working on Historical Scottish Railway, and are using a group of Sandboxes in my user space (listed at User:Pencefn/Historical Scottish Railways) to track and build various parts of the pages prior to moving to the main article. Feel free to update the affected route maps as you continue your good work.

Once again thanks for carrying out this work. --Stewart 22:36, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you can provide a list of the obselete icons, and their replacements, I'll be happy to help. I have one small comment though - I see you've been replacing {{BS3}} with {{BS}} where the first and third fields are empty. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the background of the route boxes is a very light grey, compared with the white background of the icons. This leads to a rather staggered effect down the side. It's barely noticeable (depending on your monitor settings) so it's not a big issue, but I'd personally be inclined to leave it at BS3. Though I'm certainly not suggesting you go and change them all back! – Tivedshambo (talk) 21:33, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Glasgow Central Railway

edit

I noticed that when you were cleaning up the route map for Glasgow Central Railway you also added question marks ? in front of each of the image tags in the gallery resulting in the images not being displayed. I have reverted this, however I am puzzled by you reasoning behind this move. --Stewart 10:30, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia talk:Route diagram template

edit

I think you need to see this Wikipedia_talk:Route_diagram_template#RDT:_Uber-Template_...., as there is a suggestion that Spoorstrip is not what users want. I have tried to support you, but some folks do not understand the history, and that things have changed more rapidly than the program can cater for. At least Spoorstrip has ALL of the icons ... the article does NOT. Personally, I would use Spoorstrip everytime. Canterberry 00:54, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's fine. I saw your edit summary on your most recent edit and realised you accidentally put in material not related to the article on the edit before. Angel Of Sadness T/C 20:49, 14 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Calendar changes

edit

I noticed that you changed Template:JanuaryCalendar2008. I was wondering why. If you are planning to change the calendar, I assume it is up for discussion somewhere? I have rewritten the Template:JanuaryCalendar (and all the others) to be self maintaining and have it up for comments on the Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Days_of_the_year talk page. Still needs tweaks but seems to be functional. Also, since that template is actively used, I suggest experimenting offline. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 15:57, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I intend to limit the number of templates, since only Template:Month3, with some subtemplates achieve the same result, so that there is no need to have a multiple of templates for every month. HandigeHarry (talk) 16:00, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Where is the discussion that gives the go-ahead to proceed with replacing the templates? Where is the testing taking place? I've already written the necessary templates for the days of the year articles. Perhaps you can help to tweak them? I'm removing the delete messages from the templates that you tagged because they were not submitted properly and they haven't all been fully replaced and tested yet. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 16:08, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I won't remove the delete messages. I see that most were submitted ok. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 16:10, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've reverted your change to January because the calendar version that you added does not have the same features as the old one. Also, I don't know what year that calendar is from but it isn't this year (Jan 1 is Tuesday this year). I hope that you will engage in discussion on the topic before continuing on with your planned changes. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:32, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
It is not supposed to be from a particular year. The line with the weekdays should not be there. I happen to be busy to remove it. HandigeHarry (talk) 20:34, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
What is the point of having a calendar there if it is not from a particular year? Who says it isn't supposed to have the line with weekdays? -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:37, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
To navigate to a particular date without regarding a year. There is nothing new here. For example, see January 1. (I want to replace that calendar too, but that will be a tedious job.) The calendar links to dates, without a year, although there is an header "2008" over the calendar. This spurious header depends on the current year, but it is not automatic: it requires that new templates are made every year. HandigeHarry (talk) 20:42, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see that you didn't look at my new template that I pointed out. It does everything automatically every year. Putting a non-specific calendar in an article will only be confusing (and pointless). If you make a calendar that looks like a calendar, it has to be an accurate calendar - and if it has to be accurate, why not make it in the current year? It seems like you are trying to re-invent the wheel. If you look at January 1 the calendar is for the current year. What is wrong with that? -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:50, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's wrong because the article is not about a particular year. If you display the 2008 calendar, you could just as well display the 1990 calendar. I now removed the weekdays on the top line, and this looks a lot better. The Dutch wikipedia goes a step further by showing 10 dates on a line, so that you are not tempted to think that the calendar belongs to a particular year. Perhaps it is wrong to show the dates in a rectangular pattern, it could also be: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 etc. 31 HandigeHarry (talk) 20:57, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
And furthermore, I still need to know who said that the calendar on January needs to be yearless? Please point me to a discussion so that I can be more informed on the subject. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:53, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I thought I gave you that discussion. Because the article is not about a particular year HandigeHarry (talk) 20:57, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Who besides you made the determination that using a yearless calendar was the best course of action? You cannot make that determination without community discussion. I ask respectfully that you stop making changes to the active calendars until this can be ironed out. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:02, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Obtaining Spoorstrip

According to the accounts I have found, you are the creator of Spoorstrip. I'm not exactly sure how to obtain it, so I'm requesting permission for a copy. I hope you reply soon, and thanks in advance. -- Zblewski|talk  03:26, 19 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
