Second Issue: I need to check, but the copyright to the jacket copy text is held by either the author or the publisher. (Regardless, it is not held by FantastcFiction nor Amazon nor Barnes & Noble nor any other site that uses it to describe any particular book!) This particular text is also on Lisa Unger's website here: http://lisaunger.com/books/ink-and-bone/synopsis/. But no, I did not get specific permission to use it. I can certainly do so, if that is helpful (not sure whether it matters at this point?)
I can definitely begin compiling a list for you; I have not kept one, since I did not realize this was an issue. I assumed the same rules that apply to book cover images applied to the text used. I'm sorry.
I have done paid work for Lisa Unger in the past, but am not doing so for this book. As I understand the paid contributor rules (which might well have changed; I have not rechecked them recently), this would not apply in this case? Regardless, I am now blocked so cannot make any changes to anything save responding to this thread. There are three articles that I contributed to that had a relationship with the company I was employed by at the time (I have not worked for them since 2011). The company, RLM Public Relations, paid me. The pages are: IncrediMail, Revolution Money, and Richard Laermer. While I was not paid directly by any of these, Richard Laermer is the CEO of the company. (I doubt this is relevant--because it's a spirit rather than letter of the law thing--but just in case: it was an employee of Wikimedia, which was then still headquartered in St. Petersburg, where I live, who suggested I might have helpful content to contribute. So the impetus wasn't from the client/company.)
There are a number of pages for authors and books that I have contributed to, but I have not been paid to do so. Wikipedia is generally my first stop when I am looking into potential clients, and I've often made changes to pages--or created missing pages--based on other information I've found through this process. I also have a lot of friends who are authors; last month, I attended an event where I took a lot of photos of authors, for example, and I recently uploaded an updated one to a page (it is a photo I took, so the copyright isn't an issue) because the one that was there was many years old. When I have used photos taken by others, I have gotten the appropriate copyright clearance and submitted it through the Wikimedia site.
As I understand it, a COI doesn't exist if changes are made prior to or following the existence of a business relationship. I may we'll be misunderstanding that, though.

- If you are writing the page before they become your client I would still include that as a COI. I would imagine you mention your Wikipedia efforts when you approach them to become a client.
- Also what about "Cytosorbents Corporation". If they are a client of the company you work for that definitely looks like a COI.

Ok--the only thing I can do now is respond to this thread, so I can't actually disclose anything (given the understanding I now have of this and other issues, I certainly would if I could).

My only connection to Twist is that she is a friend; it's not a commercial relationship. I don't see anything on the page that would not conform to the neutral point of view. Am I missing something?
Cytosorbents was a client of a company that I have done contract work for; that's how I heard about them first. I don't know whether they are now, but since everything I added to the page is deleted, it seems like that's taken care of? FWIW, the page is woefully incomplete (I tried to post a request for someone to look at this, but I'm also blocked from that).
I very much appreciate the amount of time and effort you have taken to explain these issues to me. Just wanted to mention that. I have never intended to cause problems; going back to when Wikipedia was about creating a "comprehensive collection of all of the knowledge in the world," I was just trying to lend a hand. Yes have been thinking about the issues in question. I would agree to an unblock along the following lines:
- The user is to always extensively paraphrase going forwards.
- They are to use independent sources (not press releases)
- They are not to edit articles directly when they have a conflict of interest or expect to have a conflict of interest in the future
- Due to their employment they are not to work on medical information.

As you know, this is difficult to prove, but I became aware of Lance Edwards when a friend shared an article with me about his Operation True Potential program because my daughter works in affordable housing. This led me to look into who was behind it; naturally my first stop was Wikipedia. I did fact-check some of the information I found online with the company to be certain it was accurate, and they provided an official bio for Edwards; I had not cited this, but have added this. I have removed the details about his personal life (wife and residences), though, because I could not find a third-party source of this information.
