Hello Dwaipayan, kamon aachhen? Just a note about the above image - you have marked it as fair-use-reduced, but it doesn't qualify as fair-use yet because it's still quite large. For fair use a rough indicator is to have the dimensions of the image under 500 pixels. Do you believe you could reduce it further? Just noticed it because I was trying to clear out Category:Rescaled fairuse images :) Thanks, and take care. – Riana 04:51, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! :) Sorry about the late-ish reply. I think the image is still quite large - in fact I would probably go for this revision as it is not terribly artifact-y, but still quite small. However, I only have a very rough idea of this sort of thing - there are some editors who are very good with fair use reduction issues, two I can think of are Mecu and ShadowHalo. Perhaps you could ask them for some pointers? Take care (and I will drop by the FAC sometime!) – Riana 01:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also I am setting up pages on Wildlife of every country (I get around don't I)!!! I see you have done some great work on national parks in India -please could you help write Wildlife of India into a beautiful summary of Indian wildlife. It should be seen as a parent article and should summarize all biota and conservation in the country and then split into the existing articles which cover in more sepcific detail. A new wiki just for India

edit

www.indianotebook.org/wiki

Hey Dwaipayanc, I noticed that you were interested in editing India articles. I just wanted to tell you about a new wiki that a friend and I have created called India Notebook, the url of which is above. A description of our site is as follows (copy-pasted from the main page): About Us: The ultimate aim of India Notebook is to document each and every little thing in India. From shops to restaurants to your local paanwalla in your hometown, India Notebook will have an entry on it so that anytime you find yourself wanting to go to, say, a new restaurant in your town, just log on, search for restaurants in your town and browse away. All we need is a little help from you. Just add all your favourite hangouts, restaurants etc etc and slowly but surely, we will have documented everything there is to see and do in India for anyone to reference, anywhere and anytime. Soon a visitor to Bombay will be able to simply come here and check out the hottest clubs, best eateries and coolest Museums without buying a guidebook. Anything and everything you want to know about a city will be right here, written by the locals.

Come and contribute. Review your favourite pubs/restaurants so that people get up-to-date information about any place in india from the locals. And also tell any friends of yours who edit wikipedia to come help out here. We're also thinking of integrating Google maps into the site, so that you can view the location of any place described on the site.

Don't hesitate to contact me at chaita@gmail.com

Also notice that this new service does not detract from, but builds upon wikipedia's already outstanding contribution. It is merely a wiki specific to the smaller things in life like where do I get Paan or, indeed, mangojuice in a new city.

Best,

Chaitanya Netkalappa University of Chicago Class of 2010

Jyotirindranath Tagore

edit

Please have a look at Jyotirindranath Tagore. I am not very happy with Portal:Current events/India. The highlights are supposed to be linked to Wikipedia news articles but there are hardly any. I have worked out sort of compromise. I am not sure whether it serves any purpose or not. I look forward to somebody picking up an interest in the matter and then I can quit that work. I am thinking about one or two news stories, particulalrly on economic topics, but I don't want to get into it in a big way. Regards. -- P.K.Niyogi 14:27, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lage Raho Munna Bhai FAc

edit

Hey. It's not so important, I just mentioned it in case someone can find a better one. Larger file size could likely get higher quality... see below the title? between the two row of text there is all kind of non-white pixels which are caused because compression quality wasn't good enough. If you found a better source, when it was resized it wouldn't create that artifact. I'm not explaining it so well, but, a higher quality pictures would do it. It's not something that will make or break the FAC. gren グレン 18:16, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Now I'm probably being difficult... the original was better than the replacement... because it's good to have the vertically tall film poster... especially when you already have a wide one below. The resolution isn't a huge problem... the reason I didn't support was because I haven't read the article yet (since I haven't seen the film and don't want to read spoilers). I'm going to revert to the old image... but, if you find a tall one with better resolution you should change it. Also, the eros entertainment website watermark is worse than the artifact. Sorry if I'm being confusing/unclear/unhelpful. I wouldn't worry about the poster. Only if you find a better resolution version of the same one would I worry. gren グレン 19:08, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
http://www.bombaymovies.com/lageraho.JPG That one has minimal compression artifact... and if we remove the indiafm.com mark from the side of it, I think it would provide a better shot... even when scaled down. And it should be cropped. gren グレン 19:15, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I did it. Tell me if you like it? If you don't thin it's better, feel free to tell me. gren グレン 19:19, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have a copy of the film so I will see it soon... but before I watch it I have to see a bunch of others--including Munna Bhai M.M.B.S. [[1]] are all of the films I've seen for the first time in the last year or so. I don't add films I've rewatched most of the time. So, there are some Indian films in there... and not always good ones. gren グレン 21:14, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to be so long in responding; I'm still really struggling to catch up. I'm hoping to be able to get through FAC tonight and tomorrow. Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:52, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Sadhu GA

edit

Hi,
I nominated The Sadhu article for GA partly to have it reviewed by a neutral, third party and use the feedback to improve the article.
The peer review process was not effective as the Virgin line still has to receive the kind of mainstream attention that other publishers (DC or Marvel) enjoy.
Zuracech lordum worked hard on the article and both he and I could not place what exactly was missing from the article; thanks to your valuable and thorough feedback we'll be able to improve the article and hopefully push it to GA class.
Best wishes and thank you for your thorough review, and for taking the time to send a personal message,

Congratulations on the ongoing FAC which seems to be on its way to becoming the first Bollywood article to make it onto the main page. Feels great to see something I worked on finally make it to FA and well done on doing what I couldn't. Brilliant job, article is great and is a great model for all influential Bollywood movies. Good luck with the Editor Review as well. Once again, congrats. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 03:46, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good works, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, the first Indian film to become a FA. Congrats and thanks for support. Amartyabag TALK2ME 07:10, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
When's a good day for it to be on the main page? These days every article proposes a date. Gandhi's birthday is too far away. Independence Day is a bit closer but still quite far away (and I'm sure we'll have a more relevant FA than Lage Raho Munna Bhai for independence day). Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 04:48, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I propose the release date when the article may be on front page. But that's too late in September. Amartyabag TALK2ME 07:31, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

History of India

edit

Great work. I really like the summarisation. I was thinking about creating an article called Chronology of Indian History to supplement this article. By the way, is Indian History by Krishna Reddy a reliable source. Its published by Tata McGraw Hill. Cheers--Shahab 10:58, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not sure about deleting this section. It is an interesting sidenote to an otherwise monotonous account of conquests and gives a social, economic aspect lacking throughout the article. Also, I have an idea that the pottery of this period was quite unique. Indian History by Krishna Reddy says that Ochre Colour Ware was prevalent prior to 1200 BC, and Painted Grey Ware in about 1100-600 BC. But I'm kinda reluctant to use the book as a source as it is not listed on the web. Will try to find another source. BTW can you build a graphic timeline? That would be nice. Regards--Shahab 19:21, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
