Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed maintenance templates from America's Crossroads Bowl. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Please see Help:Maintenance template removal for further information on when maintenance templates should or should not be removed. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Please do not remove the template until you have addressed the issues. As stated previously, the second paragraph in the lead and the entire “Game results” section are still unsourced. Please also do not remove the Template:Short description; refer to Wikipedia:Short description if you do not understand its purpose. Bennv123 (talk) 23:44, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

The piece is short and has eight references, so why is there a box that says it needs references? 2603:900A:110E:B800:29B7:C482:9793:E719 (talk) 01:19, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Because, as said above, the second paragraph in the lead and the entire "Game results" section are still completely unsourced. It is not about the number of references, but whether all the content is verifiable. Bennv123 (talk) 03:52, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the feedback. I have added four notes to address these deficiencies. The current Note 2 is for a source stating explicitly that the game is intended to be between the highest-standing non-playoff team in each conference. Notes 10, 11, and 12 cite post-game stories for each year's game which provide verification of the scores. Dracydni (talk) 05:26, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation - 1928 Indiana football standings

edit

Hi, the reason why I rejected your draft is that it isn't actually a template. Templates "are embedded (transcluded) into other pages to allow for repetitive material that may need to show up on multiple articles or pages". (see WP:NAV). You appear to be trying to create the 1928 Indiana Intercollegiate Conference football standings - if that is the case then you need to provide a explanation as to what is the football standings backed with reliable independent secondary sources. Maybe you should look at List of Southwest Conference football standings or List of Indiana Intercollegiate Athletic Association football standings to give you an idea of how it should look or if you are still pursuing a template than look at Template:NCAA Division I FBS conference standings navbox. I hope that helps. Dan arndt (talk) 04:48, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

OK, so what I want to do is gather together all of the existing Indiana Intercollegiate Conference football standings (1931 through 1942 plus 1945 and 1946) and add to them the standings for years preceding 1931, on a page titled List of Indiana Intercollegiate Conference football standings, to look like the examples you cite above, for the Southwest Conference and the Indiana Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Is there a tutorial somewhere to guide me on how to do this? I guess I'm confused about the difference between a template and a category. Or maybe this is neither? Dracydni (talk) 04:55, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
From your comments it would appear that you are trying to create a 'List of Indiana Intercollegiate Conference football standing'. I'm not across whether there is a difference between that and 'List of Indiana Intercollegiate Athletic Association football standings'. If they are the same then you just need to add to the existing article, if they are different then create a new draft using the existing article as a guide. You could possibly ask at the talk page for College Football or find one of the active editors on that project. Another option would be to ask an active editor on one or more of the respective Indiana college football articles, such as ParkerLyme or @Billydrevline:. Dan arndt (talk) 06:18, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I do not want to add to the existing article. I am trying to create a new draft on the model of the other lists. The Indiana Intercollegiate Conference was a successor organization to the Indiana Intercollegiate Athletic Association. If you check the two articles, you will see that I have recently done a lot of research and revision on these two pages, which are now very well documented with newspaper sources from the time period. Dracydni (talk) 12:52, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry busy in r/l. It looks like you've done some great research on the topic and provided some solid reliable sources to back it up. Next step would be creating Draft:List of Indiana Intercollegiate Conference football standings, based on List of Indiana Intercollegiate Athletic Association football standings, however the later is lacking a lede (a description of what the article is about) and any references confirming the information in the article. Something I'm sure based on your earlier work you'd be able to adequately address. Dan arndt (talk) 08:40, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

What is meant by "standings is mentioned in that particular articles"? This makes no sense to me.
I am trying to build on the work of others that is already in Wikipedia. I am following the same model already posted in dozens (if not hundreds) of other team standings for American sports topics. Why is my work any different from the rest? Dracydni (talk) 05:34, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Pioneer Bowl (1971-82)

edit

Hi - I noticed you created page Pioneer Bowl (1971-82), and moved content there which had previously been at Pioneer Bowl. Clearly this was all done in good faith, but renaming the original article, which would have preserved the edit history of that content, would have been the preferred approach. Also, the new article that was created, Pioneer Bowl (1971-82), should use an ndash (rather than a hyphen) and four-digit years in its title. See for example Camellia Bowl (1961–1980) or (in another sport) New York–Pennsylvania League (1923–1937) for examples of formatting year ranges in titles. Lastly, as a target article (Pioneer Bowl) has now been replaced with a disambiguation page, other articles that previously had valid links to Pioneer Bowl should be updated to point at the "new" target article (Pioneer Bowl (1971-82) or, preferably, Pioneer Bowl (1971–1982)). If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 22:22, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. As you may have noticed by now, I split the previous Pioneer Bowl article into Pioneer Bowl (1971-82) and Pioneer Bowl (HBCU). The HBCU game (1997-2012) was a completely different game with no connection to the earlier contest of the same name, and it made no sense to have both games covered by the same article when their names were entirely coincidental. I have been thinking about splitting this article for some time now; a few weeks ago I posted it as a discussion item but got no feedback from other editors. I think you will find the two articles much tighter, more coherent, and better documented than the previous single article. I have been working my way through the other articles with links to Pioneer Bowl to update them to link to the proper new article. Thanks for the tip on the dash/hyphen issue. I'll be sure to correct that, too. Dracydni (talk) 22:56, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Splitting the article seems to make sense, and the two resulting articles look good, from the quick look I had at them. I try to keep an eye on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football but it ends up being hit or miss, and I didn't see the noted discussion. I'd suggest renaming the article [using (1971–1982)] before updating the links, so the updated links use the "final" article title. If you run out of time (or patience) on the renaming, I'd be happy to help with some. Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 01:46, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

GLVC new associate members

edit

Hello! I saw that you recently updated the Great Lakes Valley Conference page to include that Oklahoma Christian and Roosevelt will be joining as associates for bowling and men's volleyball, respectively. I was just curious, where did you source that information from? I was looking to update other pages with this news (like NCAA Division I independent schools#Bowling), but a quick search online for a citation through the GLVC's website as well as OCU and RU's respective athletics sites didn't uncover any press releases or news articles discussing this. Finchwidget (talk) 05:23, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I was in the meeting where these associate memberships were approved. The minutes have since been circulated to the membership so are in no way confidential. I'm not sure why the press releases have not been issued yet. I guess the info could be pulled down until such time as it is officially acknowledged by the institutions involved. Dracydni (talk) 11:19, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh neat, it's cool you're involved there! I'm not trying to act as the citation police, since that's probably a job reserved for more senior editors with more authority than me; I was just genuinely curious. It's probably a matter of time before the information gets disseminated then, so I'll keep an eye out for those. Thanks! Finchwidget (talk) 16:31, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
