Wondering what you think...

Hi Dori, I don't know that we've ever interacted before, but I want to ask your opinion on something. Would you take a look at the contributions of User:Str8cash and see what you think? I'm suspecting a possible sock of PolTX, but the rapper edits don't fit with what I know of PT. I wanted a second opinion before deciding whether to file an SPI case. LadyofShalott 18:34, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but the signs point to "No." The guy does sound like a real jerk, though, and I am surprised that PolTX has been quiet this long. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 10:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks. However... "this long"? You mean since December 10? LadyofShalott 17:15, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Whoops, I had no idea that after being quiet for three months (September, October, & November) he'd recently returned. I've updated the tracking page.
Given that, here's a more current look at his contributions. Now I can't say no quite so definitely, but I don't think so. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 08:34, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Shaycarl article

Your recent edit removed no less then 15 citations, which took me half a day to find. Feel free to move things around, but please keep the citations in tact. --82.171.70.54 (talk) 04:19, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

No, I removed 11 YouTube links, moved IMDB and BlogTV links to the article's subject to external links (per WP:MOS), removed one ref that was listed twice, and removed one ref that I thought didn't meet WP:RS. I also added categories and tags to improve the article and clarify issues. Sorry you have a problem with WP policies, but that's your problem.

Is it possible to scan in and send pdfs? Matt Lloyd has made a signifiant contribution to sport by inventing the inline sledge (a wheelchair sport company is now manufacturing inline sledges as a result (http://www.rgklife.com/products/sport.php). electronic records

You decided to reditrect my article on electronic records to the article on records management, but with all due respect the subject matter is quite different. My article was an effort to make it clear that the term 'electronic records' has a specific and ideologically important history in the fiel of archives and records management and to locate the emergence of that rterms and its significance around 1990. The general article on records management simply gives todays perspective on how electroni records are managed without suggesting the history of the term itself or the importance of that history. Since thjis is a field I have been involved in for the past thirty years, I'm keenly aware of how the terminology not only changed but carried with it an important methodological and perspective shift. I don't think you've helped here by redirecting and eliminating the article I wrote. It would have been better, and quite reasonable, to cross reference it.

I'd suggest you undo it, - I won't because I don't want to get into a silly war. 64.26.178.40 (talk) 17:02, 24 January 2010 (UTC)David Bearman, January 24, 2010 64.26.178.40 (talk) 17:02, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Error in Hudson Taylor

Hello, I am so sorry for incorrectly trying to edit the name "Hudson Taylor." I was trying to fix the disambiguation problem, as several individuals go by the name "Hudson Taylor." I tried to post on the new user's help page; but, I was not sure if I did so properly. I looked up how to create a disambiguation page, and am very sorry for doing it incorrectly. I did not understand how to "move" the article. My sincere apologies for the inconvenience. I will be sure to seek out additional help and advice before trying to change anything again.

Also, I believe that I have addressed your concerns about the notability of Herbert Hudson Taylor IV on the page you sent me. I have more thoughts on the subject and would welcome an opportunity to share them with you. Thank you again. Liawilde415 (talk) 03:02, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello DoriSmith,

I am so sorry it looks like I added my question to you into someone else's request. I did not fill out a new subject/headline. My apologies. I found your name under clerks and just wanted to ask you about the arbitration request form. When I go to the form it is filled with someone else's request. Am I supposed to just begin typing at the bottom of their arbitration request? If I am not asking the correct person can you direct me to someone who can? Dry rot treatment

Hi Dori, I was looking into this article, which you changed to a redirect. The article as written by the new editor to my eye contains a ton of information and looks very well-sourced. It also looks to be pushing a POV (non-toxic dry-rot elimination is good) but not to such a degree that it should simply be blanked. The section you redirected to is just two paragraphs of lower quality with zero sources indicated. Accordingly, I've reverted your edit so that Dry rot treatment is now a standalone article. If there are problems with the article or you think that dry-rot treatment is insufficiently notable as a standalone topic, I think maybe a merge discussion, AFD, NPOV template, pick up the axe for specific problems - any of these would be a better way to go in response to a new editor's evidently hard work. I tried to check for any prior discussion of this and didn't find any. If I've missed something, please point me to it so I can re-evaluate the subject! I'll watch here and at the article for any comments you might have. Regards! Franamax (talk) 22:50, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah, I found it at the Help desk archive. I guess comments should go to the article talk page then. Franamax (talk) 23:03, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia page for ProductCamp

Hi DoriSmith,

Would very much like to help build content for ProductCamp wikipedia page. After your revisions, there is now very little content. Can you coach me a little, line by line, on what the issues with the content were? I am admittedly a very inexperienced wiki contributor so I appreciate your help.

Thanks, 68.99.183.254 (talk) 16:11, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah, that's the problem with this article—without sources, there's no content. There just isn't much (anything?) out there in the way of third-party verifiable reliable sources that cover ProductCamps (yet). I found a book that briefly mentioned them in passing and added that to the article; if you can find any news articles (I couldn't) that would be a big help. But anything you add should be something found in an uninvolved source.
When I answered the feedback request I added an aside along the lines of "With this many marketers, you couldn't get press?"—which has a grain of truth to it. Media mentions are what you need, and unless/until those are included, it's not unlikely that the article will end up at WP:AFD. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 08:19, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

This is in reference to ProductCamp and my feedback.

Rancho Sotoyome

This is one in a series of articles about California ranchos List of Ranchos of California. The article is about the Rancho - not about about Fitch and Alexander. As you inicated, it did indeed look like two articles - because Alexander was separated out - with the plan to create his own page when all the facts were in there. I have now done this. Emargie (talk) 07:31, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for making those changes, (again !) and improving the article. Emargie (talk) 00:09, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Aha, that explains a lot... I didn't know there were plans to split it so I just tried to make things better. I agree that separate articles make more sense. I've now added my copyedits to both Rancho Sotoyome and Cyrus Alexander. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 01:24, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
I did the same bad thing in a few other rancho articles. Not very pretty - but then like Alexander, the section to be split off was hardly strong enough to stand alone (although there is still a lot of stuff on Alexander out there). And I need to go back and find out how he got the land, even if the grant was rejected. I really appreciate the effort you to by re-doing all those edits - most people would have just moved on. Thanks. Emargie (talk) 02:03, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Ariana Richards

Hi. Sorry for the disagreement over the Ariana Richards page. I removed the tags after I removed POV text and updated categories. What specifically is still wrong with it? Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 14:25, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I didn't see any POV text before or after, so that's not an issue for me. My primary issue was your removal of the {{refimproveBLP}} tag without adding any sources or refs. The article still badly needs them (imo). Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 22:41, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I agree; I was hoping to get {{stale}} to work, as older items keep piling up and there currently isn't anything that can be done with them if the initial editor never returns. In the longish run, I'd like to be able to use several of the items at the List of Discussion Templates, such as {{resolved}} (which looks like it should work, but doesn't), {{moved to}} or {{moved conversation}}, {{no action}}, {{donelink}}, and {{redundant symbol}}.
The bot being down doesn't stop us from using (for instance) {{2O}}, {{doing}}, {{moreInfo}} or {{question}}, though, as they shouldn't trigger an archive anyhow. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 03:20, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree. You may also be interested in the switched template - {{Feed}} - that User:Fleetflame put together at my suggestion, to speed up the adding of common responses. It's not finished and the messages could probably be improved and added to, but it's a start. – ukexpat (talk) 04:02, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

As the notification I left on your talk page said, I put it up for speedy deletion because the article didn't say why Dominion Colour was notable. I suggest you read Wikipedia's Guidelines on notability for companies and Why was my page deleted?
My recollection of the article is that it looked like your userspace draft (and also here), which (along with not saying why the company is notable) also does not include any sources—which is what I said in my response at Requests for feedback.
I'm not sure what you mean by "its keeps being deleted"—so far as I can tell, it's only been deleted once, on 11 February 2010 by User:Tbsdy lives.
I recommend that you read the two pages I suggested and linked to above. Additionally, given your interest in the company, I have to ask: are you affiliated with it in any fashion? If so, you should read Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest and the FAQ on editing business articles with a COI. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 00:52, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Friedrich

Thank you for your instruction on naming conventions. If I may offer some thoughts in return:

I was not at all sure I understood your objective on the Friedrich Air Conditioning article. The article is a stub. It has some content and some references. It needs more but instead of helping add content, you simply removed content and then stuck a giant tag on the top. This adds no value. The notability of the company is in question? It is one of the largest air conditioning manufacturers in the world - walk around your neighborhood - one in three will probably be friedrich air conditioners. Where is the original research or unverified claims? What content contradicts itself? If you want to put a tag on it, that is fine but your excessive tagging is not particularly helpful, especially when you remove references and content.

Also, what value is there in adding your commented text about how crappy the article is? I have never seen that even once before in an article |► ϋrбanяeneωaℓTALK ◄| 05:19, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

oh and by the way from the page you quoted me "Please note, "company", "international" "group" "industries" or similar suffixes are not legal statuses and should be included as specified by the originating business, for example it is the JPMorgan Chase & Co., but the The Coca-Cola Company."

ScienceHeroes.com

Dear Ms. Smith,

I believe there has been some miscommunication regarding my book and website. http://ScienceHeroes.com

I have tried repeatedly to link from Wikipedia pages, however, each time, my page has been taken down because it was believed to be spam or a shameless ploy to sell my merchandise.

There are four living scientists in my book. I interviewed all four of the scientists, and each scientist reviewed and corrected their own chapters. We used statistician, Amy R. Pearce, PhD from Arkansas State University (apearce@astate.edu) to calculate the numbers. Her methods for calculating the numbers can be found on each individual scientist’s page on our website. A brief explanation can also be found on the website at this link: http://scienceheroes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44&Itemid=57

Listed below are links to my book sources (272 sources were used for the book), online PDF’s of chapter 3 (William Foege) and chapter 5 (Norman Borlaug), and the links to reviews of the book.

If you so choose, we would like to send you a free copy of the book. You can order the book on our website and use the coupon code: J117ZWCBLE You will receive the book completely free via US Postal Service.

My motives are best summed up by this blurb. Too often, we celebrate things that don’t really matter much in the grand scheme of things, and overlook those who made it all possible. The thirteenth century German theologian, Meister Eckhart said, “If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’ that would suffice. We agree and dedicate this website to the scientists who have saved so many lives. Come join us as we celebrate the scientists and science that makes our lives wonderful!

Thank you very much, Billy Woodward 859.806.0637 scienceheroes@insightbb.com

Seriously??
Here's the paragraph you added:
However, recent research (published on the BBC website on 11th Feb 2009) suggests that fat people may be responsible for causing spina bifida in there babies, so stop eating those burgers and do some running around. Your unborn baby needs it and McDonalds can do without your wallet for nine months. If this offends you then good because this little paragraph is doing the right job, because we will offend you off of your junk food by telling the truth in a blunt and nasty way. Your big, fat, lazy and lard-ass lifestyle is damaging unborn children. So change now. Here is the link, it just needs somebody to put the referencing in properly: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7879498.stm

Not vandalism

I don't think your edit summary was right in reverting the 5 edits by User:86.165.89.230. Possibly spam, though it seems to be a non-commercial site. Probably Good Faith edits. Not vandalism, certainly when the user hasn't been warned about it: see WP:VANDALISM, to which your edit summary links: "Adding or continuing to add spam external links is vandalism if the activity continues after a warning. A spam external link is one added to a page mainly for the purpose of promoting a website, product or a user's interests rather than to improve the page editorially." These edits fail the first sentence, and I think they probably fail the second one too as the edits lead to images and walks etc which the editor probably felt "improve[d] the page editorially". PamD 10:56, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

When an anonymous IP begins their WP editing career by linking five different articles to the same site, I smell spam. Particularly so when all five edits occur within ten minutes. Apparently, your tolerance level is higher than mine—I certainly don't see any signs that the user is here to improve the project. Given a choice, though, I hope that you're right! DoriTalkContribs 11:08, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I prefer to smell "I know this brilliant website with great pics which ought to be linked from some relevant articles and I'm going to add the links even if I haven't read anything about policy for external links" - especially as it's a non-commercial site as far as I can see. Have left a note at the user talk page. Will see whether the editor re-appears, or whether another newbie editor has been lost. PamD 11:16, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Nice template, but it's "below the fold" on my laptop - might it be better at the top of the page, where the other one was? PamD 11:20, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I tried that, but it leaves a big gap of white space following it. If you know of a better template that delivers the same message, let me know. DoriTalkContribs 11:23, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Please read WP:EL and WP:Other stuff exists. In general, the right place to have this discussion is on the article's talk page. DoriTalkContribs 21:27, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Joseph Kennedy (actor)

In response to this being added to User talk:Cl;nintendods:

The article Joseph Kennedy (actor) has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.

Hello. I'm fed up ! The sources were reliable, I had added ! Now, you propose it to suppression ? LOL ! I am angry, every time I was careful to vandalism of this article, you know what, I think I'll take some distances of Wikipedia english ! Cordially, Cl;nintendods (talk) 19:27, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
At the moment, the article at Joseph Kennedy (actor) contains zero sources—which makes it a WP:PRODBLP violation. If you have some solid reliable sourcing that you can add to the article, please do (and remove the prod at the same time). Either way, the article can't remain as it stands. DoriTalkContribs 21:27, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Violation ? What violation ?? Cordially, Cl;nintendods (talk) 19:40, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
At the time I put the prod on it, it contained no sources or references. It now contains one—but it's to a fan community site in French. I've asked whether this can be considered a WP:RS at the Reliable Sources noticeboard. DoriTalkContribs 23:37, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

why did you remove www.midsummermorning.com from the solstice and other pages?

why did you remove www.midsummermorning.com external link from the solstice page? Did you even look ? I think you'll find it's extremely relevant. If there was something wrong with the way it was formatted, couldnt you have just altered that? I noticed other links like the nuttal project - which is basically just a dictionary with a one line description of the equinox are included ??????????— Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.185.176 (talk) 19:48, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

I can't answer for DoriSmith, but the link is to a non-notable website, and doesn't add anything to the article. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 20:37, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
What is a non-notable website ?, www.midsummermorning.com is a solstice and equinox countdown - it tells you the amount of days, hours, minutes and seconds till the next solar event, how does that not add anything ? but a one line dictionary description does ??????????? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.185.176 (talk) 20:56, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, Drmies! Yes, that's exactly why. 82.34.185.176, you added the link to Winter solstice, Midsummer, Equinox, Summer solstice, and Solstice—and it wasn't clear how it added anything to any of them. I recommend you read WP:EL and WP:Other stuff exists. DoriTalkContribs 21:27, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
ok - but you havnt actually said what ive done wrong - other stuff exists ? where ?82.34.185.176 (talk) 21:31, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Those are links to pages, and I recommend that you read them. In particular, WP:EL should help explain why some external links just aren't useful. DoriTalkContribs 21:36, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
all links go to pages , you want me to read a long list of terms and conditions and figure out what one i have violated - you are making me laugh - no wonder wikipedia is getting a name for disinformation — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.185.176 (talk) 21:39, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Imagine how much disinformation WP would contain if we didn't have documentation on what does/does not belong in an encyclopedia! DoriTalkContribs 21:45, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
erm - youre trying to sidestep the argument there, you still hanvnt answered my question82.34.185.176 (talk) 21:49, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
I have said—two times previously, so this makes three—that answers to your questions can be found at WP:EL. That's all you're going to get here; sorry if that's not sufficient for you. DoriTalkContribs 21:54, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
no - i wont accept that - youve said i have violated terms and conditions and wont say what one82.34.185.176 (talk) 21:57, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Diffs, please? I can't find anywhere that I've used any variant of "term" or "condition" regarding your edits. DoriTalkContribs 22:03, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

IP user then left several insulting comments about me and WP: one, two, three, four. All were reverted by Tgeairn, with the end result that the user was blocked for 48 hours. <--And so it goes. Dori, you did all you could. Drmies (talk) 04:09, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks—I always wonder if there's something I could have said to get the message across, but sometimes, there just isn't. DoriTalkContribs 23:37, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
