Wikipedia jargon

Hi there. I saw your query here as to what a "sock issue" is. On Wikipedia, it refers to sockpuppetry ("socking" for short), i.e., when one person is editing under multiple account names and pretending to be a different, or multiply different editors. The account names used by the person are referred to as "sockpuppets" ("socks" for short). This obviously wasn't the case with your class, although the original editor was at first puzzled at what was going on and wondered if it might be a case of socking. I was drawn into Dr. Reid's story and started to prepare it for publication myself, since I think it should be in the encyclopedia, but after realizing that it was a student project stopped. I hope you will encourage them to finish this. If they are not going to, please let me know, and I'll continue. He seems to have been a fascinating man.
