New Years Message for WikiProject United States

With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or you can always post something on the projects talk page. Intervention during apparitions

Hello, CLJ! I have a canon law question for you. Over on the Status of Međugorje article, we have a statement saying: as long as the phenomena continue, the Church can't make a determination as to their supernaturalite. Seems silly to me. I'm not 100% sure, but I've done some research and here's what I've come up with:

DISFAVOURABLE: Canon 50 requires that before the local Bishop makes a singular decree (in this case, to ban the site), he must gather all the necessary info. Normæ Congregationis II.3 provides that the local Bishop may ban the site for grave reason, including doctrinal error, to avoid "false mysticism" or to prevent liturgical abuse.

FAVOURABLE: I'm not sure if there's a specific rule about if the Bishop has to wait for them to stop before making a favourable decree, though one could infer from Canon 50 that it is neccesary for the apparitions (and the messages) to stop before one can analize them completely. Frankly, I'm not sure there is any official rule that requires the apparitions to stop, though I do know that this is the de facto procedure.

Eucharist in the Catholic Church Article

Greetings,

After I joined WikiProject Catholicism some time back you sent me a greeting note. I would like to enlist the aid of the project but am not a sophisticated user of Wikipedia and not sure how to do so. In short, the article "Eucharist in the Catholic Church" needed a lot of work in its "scriptual foundations section." I put together an edit of that section and am now working through the discussion process. I am getting suprising resistance to concepts and references that I belive reflect mainstream Catholic thought (for example, that the Bread and Wine offered by Melchizedek were pre-figures of the Eurcharist). I was hoping to enlist some other people with love and knowledge of the Eurcharist to join the discussion/editing process to get the article to a good place. Thoughts? First of all, JUST DO IT! Click "edit" and post. The worst that can happen is that your part is deleted. If you have good references, this almost never happens.

Second, you're right about the Melchizedek thing, according to Fr. Mitch Pacua, SJ. I've heard many such things about Old/New Testament symbolism.

Third, I'll try to help when I can but I'm kinda busy. Thanks!

The WikiProject National Archives Newsletter July 2011 News Featured article contest This week, our first multilingual featured article contest was announced. We are aiming to improve the articles on the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, or Bill of Rights to featured or good status in English and other languages. Prizes for winners will be a gift package from the National Archives including a book of your choice or a tote bag, and other swag, plus, of course, a special barnstar. Special requests: This section includes special requests from the NARA staff: Archival Recovery Team The National Archives' Archival Recovery Team (ART) is a team of law enforcement agents and archivists who investigate NARA's lost and stolen documents. They have received media attention ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]) and would like to request an article be written for the team, if Wikipedians deem it notable. It is hoped that making more information about the group available on Wikipedia will increase public awareness of the documents they are seeking to recover. Ongoing Today's Document challenge The Today's Document challenge is an opportunity for Wikipedians to get their work related to National Archives holdings spotlighted on Archives.gov and the National Archives' tumblr. Each day the National Archives selects a document related to the day's date to showcase. The goal is to get articles related to the selected documents on the main page in ""Did You Know...?" the same day that the National Archives features the document. Alternatively, other appropriate articles related to National Archives holdings not already selected will be used for new documents of the day by NARA staff and posted to their tumblr. Wikisource WP:NARA has a sister WikiProject on Wikisource, WS:NARA. On Wikisource, editors transcribe, proofread, and arrange documents. This helps to make little-known documents more discoverable, or well-known documents more searchable, and improves accessibility. See the files being worked on. If you are new to Wikisource and would like to participate, there are experienced Wikisourcerors willing to be mentors. Discussion on linking to streamed copies of albums

Wikipedia policy allows us to link to legal streamed copies of albums. It would be useful to draw up a guideline on how and when to link to such albums; however, there is concern that it may not be appropriate as the music would not be available in all parts of the world. Is the benefit of having access to the music for most users outweighed by the fact that some users will follow a link to find the music is not playable in their region?
