Like to be mop-nominated?

edit

Your name has been on, and indeed near the top of WP:NA for quite a while, but so far as I know you've never been nominated. Your contributions look industrious and uncontroversial, and I can see no reason why you shouldn't get the mop, if you're indeed interested. Would you like me to nominate you? Alai 06:42, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm saying nothing about rising times of a Sunday morning, on the "glass houses" principle. Nominated, you now need to accept, answer the questions, and list the page. Indeed, pretty much no way to tell, but I can see no reason you wouldn't be accepted. Look at it this way: if there's some mysterious objection people would have, better to discover it now, make whatever amends or corrective action might be required, and get re-nominated in due course, if the worst comes to the worst. Alai 17:57, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
As I alluded to above, technically you're supposed to do that bit yourself.... Alai 19:20, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it's a final initiative/technical skills test? :) Best of luck! Alai 19:28, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I see a distinct pattern in the opposes/concerned-sounding neutrals! Regardless of which way this pans out (and it's fairly finely poised at present), can I suggest you consider joining a wikiproject as a "kinder, gentler" means of having more interactions with other users, and the project space? And/or one of the more neglected "process" pages -- categories for deletion/renaming, or requested moves, if you're interested in naming convention matters, stub proposals/deletions, etc, etc. Not so painful as AFD, or as full-bore wikipolitics, I promise. Alai 02:39, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The neutrals are basically not counted, unless the support:oppose ratio is really in the "grey area". (Notice that Ian13 was just promoted with barely 75% support, not counting the neutrals at all.) I don't suggest you take part in a WPJ or process page only to get your namespace edit count up, and I certainly don't suggest one you have no actual interest in: as I say, I think it would be worth considering regardless of the RfA outcome. But I'd think you'd have some interest in Wikipedia:WikiProject Football, Wikipedia:Typo and similar "cleanup" activities... And WP:WSS could always do with more slave^Wvolunteer labour, I can testify from personal experience. Alai 18:25, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
You're very welcome. Alai 18:57, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hope I'm not tempting fate by jumping the gun of the actual closure, but as the deadline's passed, and unless there are about six late-breaking opposes... Well done, talk to people occasionally, but keep up the good work -- and don't swing to the opposite end of the spectrum and turn into a total process-fiend, either! Alai 20:02, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 03:44, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Congrats on becoming an admin! I was hoping you could help with something. In deletion review (and the deletion process for that matter) and article was deleted that I believe should not have been. Self Harm page

edit

Hi there, I'm getting in touch as you've done recent work on the self-harm article. I've done a fair bit of study on this subject recently, so reckon I'm in a position to go through and get a good load of citations in there. What I propose, is moving to using the ref tag to make this easier, and then I'll go through and get citations in, and replace some of the "some people" type areas with referenced viewpoints, trying to get multiple view is where there are opposing views. Obviously this'll involve a bit of rewriting and adding so I wondered if you have any feedback on this before I start. Acidsaturation 07:41, 21 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gonna get on to it this week - picking up some resources from the Library at Leeds today. If you want to give a hand - someone to proofread what I do would be great, incase I miss bits in the markup, or if I do any shuffling to make the references flow smoother. Acidsaturation 15:54, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK - I've had a play with the Definitions bit - referenced it, added a few more things and moved one para into the psychology section as I reckon it goes better there. If you want to check it over I'd welcome that Acidsaturation 23:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yup. It's all fine now. I created the Stats page a while ago because I thought it would be good to have a "current status" thing at the time. But then I found out how much work it was to keep it accurate and I don't want to be changing that every time my status changes (which appeared to be quite often...). F1 portal featured article

edit

The F1 portal (in which I assume you have some degree of interest, as your name is listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One) is intended to have a regular rotation of a 'featured article'. I've swapped a few in and out over the last couple of months, but I think it would be better if there were more of a community attempt at deciding this, proposals, votes, that kind of thing. So - why not pop over to Portal_talk:Formula_One#Suggestions_for_Featured_Article: and make a suggestion. Ta. 4u1e 00:24, 26 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Selected articles on Portal:F1

edit

Hello again.

I dropped notes round a while back to those who have listed themselves at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One to ask for suggestions for selected articles on portal:Formula One. There was a pretty good response, both in terms of how it might work and of articles suggested. Damon Hill came out with the most support and was brought up to Good Article standard after a lot of work by Skully Collins before going on as the F1 portal selected article a couple of weeks ago. It is now at Featured Article Candidates as a Featured Article candidate (why not drop by and see if you can help polish it further?).

Several people who responded to the original request suggested that a monthly or bi-weekly 'Selected Article' could act as a catalyst for an improvement drive to get more articles up to a higher standard. Although it wasn't quite what I had in mind when I started, this seemed to work pretty well for the Damon Hill article, so I've drafted up a process for doing this more regularly. See Portal_talk:Formula_One/Management_of_selected_articles for details. Essentially the suggestion is that we vote for an article to improve every couple of weeks and at the end of the improvement process the article goes on the portal as the new 'Selected Article'. I'd be grateful for any comments on how this might work - I'm sure some of you are more familiar with things 'Wiki' than me - as well as your votes for the next candidate (by 16 July).

You may also want to help with the article Gilles Villeneuve, which was the next most popular after Damon Hill. The idea is to try and get it up to GA standard by 16 July and then put it on the portal as the 'Selected Article'. I hope you can help! 4u1e 15:05, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

By all means remove categories like the one in Jason Bandlow - most of them look to have a way left before they can play ODIs (it's a bit of a shame they don't play in South African domestic leagues any more, hopefully the cricketing spark is still nurtured). And I think I can agree about Gavin Murgatroyd too - after looking around, he's known by both first names (the Telegraph and some other sources listed him as Bryan at the World Cup), so you might want to note that in the article. Not just he can, he should have his own article: he's currently the top Serie A goalscorer (4 goals in 3 matches), as well as a key player for the Under-21 Italian team. - Angelo 09:05, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks good; anyway, I'll expand it later. About Boccolini, he's still the third goalkeeper for Ascoli, so I don't think he deserves his own article. Bianchi is a regular for his team (and the Italy U-21), Boccolini definitely not. Angelo 18:49, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Ice hockey/News

edit

I reverted your excision of the apostrophe, principally because I think the context to be one in which the use of the genitive case to be preferred to the use of the objective case. Gerund#Preceding genitive phrases seems to suggest, though, that whilst most manuals of style counsel the former usage, the latter is no longer considered as proscribed in the formal English grammar (especially in view of the instant formulation's ostensibly serving to compose an object; our MoS, to be sure, is silent on the issue. Had I appreciated the existence of a broad dispute as to the "proper" usage (and I call myself a descriptivist!), I'd not have reverted, so I mean, I suppose, to apologize and to express my hope that you'll drop by the ice hockey portal, to which few editors contribute, in the future. If you're scoring at home, btw, I have, indeed, consumed an entire paragraph writing apropos of an apostrophe—that sort of behavior often leads to one's appearing at WP:LAME#Punctuation. In any event, my bad as to the reversion and my thanks as to your partaking of editing the ice hockey portal; good on ya! Joe 18:03, 28 October 2006 (UTC)`Reply
