Rolls-Royce

Hi Bkonrad, thanks for putting me straight on Rolls-Royce (car marque) (twice!). As three different companies have made RR-branded cars, I'm looking for a way of providing a single link (that can lead to either them) to avoid having to explain the whole situation each time RR is mentioned in the context of a car brand. Do you know of a way I can do that with a disambiguation type page? Note I've also asked a similar question at WT:DAB#DAB advice sought please. Thanks for any advice on this. -- DeFacto (talk). 09:56, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

You could perhaps reorganize the Rolls-Royce disambiguation page to have a section addressing the marques and then target the Rolls-Royce (car marque) redirect to that section. olderwiser 10:32, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
I found this article (on the DAB page) which is similar to what I intended, so I've redirected to that for now. Thanks. -- DeFacto (talk). 15:06, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Undoing changes

Hi Bkonrad, why are you undoing all the changes I make? Wardman

Wardman (talk) 16:31, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Wardman, please see WP:MOSDAB. In particular, links are not supposed to be piped except in a few specific cases. olderwiser 16:55, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

OK, thanks. Doesn't look that good, but rules are rules... Wardman (talk) 19:38, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Bkonrad. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Content Deleted

Hi Bkonrad, I added some content to the "Osborne" article page, which you promptly removed. I'm new here so I guess i must have violated some rule. Can you point out the exact error made. Thanks Stackng (talk) 15:59, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

I assume you mean this edit by an IP. Problem is that each entry on a disambiguation page should have a navigable blue link to an existing article in English language Wikipedia with content relevant to the entry. See WP:DABENTRY and WP:DABMENTION olderwiser 16:28, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

GMD Page

Why were you removing my edits? I don't get it. Many people at my school search up GMD to try and find the Geometry Dash Wiki but to no avail. Can you please edit it so that it is still in the article but follows Wiki's Terms and Conditions? Thanks.

P.S. If you understand all of this, you are a god. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moon-GMD and More (talkcontribs) 06:23, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

4×2 (disambiguation)

Would you please reverse your deletion of 4×2 (disambiguation) at 22:05, 27 November 2018. I think you acted while I was waiting for an uncontroversial technical move of 4x2 (with an "x") to 4×2 (with a multiply symbol), placed at WP:RM at 18:14, 27 November 2018. Thanks. 3RR

Just reminding you that you've just made your third revert at Hole. I assume you're well acquianted with WP:3RR. – Uanfala (talk) 16:56, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

And I assume you are as well and also familiar with WP:DABREF. Everyone thinks what they know deserves an exception to the rules. olderwiser 17:02, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Of course, external links are undesirable in the vast majority of cases. But there are rare cases where an exception is appropriate. You are also aware of MOS:DAB#When to break Wikipedia rules, I hope? – Uanfala (talk) 17:06, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
WP:Write the article first. I see no reason to invoke IAR. olderwiser 17:10, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Well, I've brought this up for discussion at WT:MOSDAB#External links, where you're welcome to participate. Just one point though: if you're in a disagreement with another editor they're more likely to be persuaded if you address their specific arguments rather than simply stating the background assumptions that are shared by both of you. – Uanfala (talk) 14:03, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

self-referring page link.

Why have you reverted my change? Do you see any kind of usefulness in having a link in a web page that self referres? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cpanceac (talkcontribs) 07:23, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

What do you mean by self-referring page link? In your edit, you removed both a link to a different disambiguation page as well as the disambiguation template. olderwiser 07:32, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

DCA

Hiya! I reverted your reversion of my addition to the DCA page, but it is absolutely not my intention to start an edit war. If I'm doing this the wrong way, please let me know! For example, should I add the supporting link (http://www.dcainc.com/products/ddplicense/index.html) in a footnote on the Disc Description Protocol page? Thanks! --Shadow (talk) 00:04, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi again! I saw that you re-reverted without responding. You again stated: "The linked wikipedia article doesn't say that." The linked article (DDP) does, in fact, say: "DDP is a proprietary format and is the property of DCA." What am I doing wrong, and what should I be doing differently? Appreciate a response. Thanks! --Shadow (talk) 01:11, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
Speaking as a lurker, I'd say there's nothing on the DDP page explaining what DCA is; no mention of Doug Carson & Associates or inventorship. Get some sourced info there first, then maybe a link is possible, though maybe not if DCA is not independently notable. Dicklyon (talk) 01:19, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
