Swift response :) Very nice. Two questions... how regular are these lists available, and would it be too much to ask to have lists provided for the many subprojects of WikiProject Australia? Thanks. -- Longhair\talk 09:33, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
The lists are updated once every 1 or 2 months, based on the availability of data dumps, which I have no influence on. Listings for subprojects are no problem; I generate them using a bot. Just provide me with a comprehensive list showing
  • The project page of the subproject,
  • the category in which the subproject articles (or rather their talk pages) can be found.
However, my response might not be that swift... also because the bot has not yet been fully approved. But a few days delay shouldn't really matter I think. --B. Wolterding (talk) 10:14, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Update: The bot is now approved, so one you provide the list of subprojects, generating the cleanup listings is no major problem. --B. Wolterding (talk) 08:23, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:COMICS edit

Done - Listing is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Cleanup listing. Note that this is a rather large project, with about 3800 articles flagged for cleanup. • Thanks. Wow. That's rather large. I'll see how we get through this lot, and then get back to you on the larger list. Hiding T 11:06, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

New list edit

I think I'm the only one using it as yet, although I could be wrong. I do find it very useful, yes and have no suggestions or complaints with the format. If you can do them by workgroup, the Marvel Comics, DC Comics and Comics creators workgroups are probably the best ones to do. The first two have the largest body of editors, the latter has the greatest concern regarding WP:BLP. Hopefully other editors will start to recognise the issues and work on cleanup. Thanks once again for doing this. Hiding T 10:02, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject India workgroups edit

Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 18:38, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have added the parent project on the top of the list. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 13:55, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done - I have generated cleanup listings for all of those. You will find them on the "/Cleanup listing" subpages of the project pages. Also, I have placed a box on each project page that links to the cleanup listing. However, there was a small technical problem for Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab (India). The reason is that the corresponding category did not exist at the time of the last database snapshot (May 24). But you just need to wait until a new snapshot becomes available - probably end of June - and a correct listing will be generated. --B. Wolterding (talk) 14:07, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject China edit

I am posting this here instead of using the automated template because I have a question. Although our project template is located at Template:WikiProject China, as noted above, we often use a shorthand redirect, {{WPCHINA}}, instead. Can your bot pick up on all of the articles tagged with the redirect too? Either way, there are plenty of articles to go around, so just give us the first thousand of our massive stack, and we'll get to work. Thanks for this service, we really appreciate it.--Danaman5 (talk) 11:33, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The use of shorthands is no problem; if (as here) the shortcut redirects to the main banner template, all articles tagged with the shortcut will appear in the cleanup listing as well. I have now added the subscription template to your project page; the listing should appear shortly. --B. Wolterding (talk) 11:46, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Future enhancements edit

Below I have listed certain improvements to the listings that I might add in the future, but that are not available right now. If you have any futher ideas, do not hesitate to add them in a new section, or add comments to the existing ones. (Of course, this does not imply that I will actually implement them.)

Include assessment ratings edit

Several editors have requested to include existing quality and/or importance assessments in the list - either by filtering the lists, or by indicating ratings in the existing lists. This might be helpful for focusing cleanup work on the most important parts.

The solution might look as follows:

  • Separate (and additional) sections for listing FA-, FL-, A-, GA-Class, Top- and High-Importance articles flagged for cleanup (space permiting),
  • Indicating the ratings of the abovementioned articles in the other listings (something like adding [FA, Top] behing an article's entry.

I might be adding such extensions at a later time, but I can't say at this time when it will be available. --B. Wolterding (talk) 08:31, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

This enhancement is now ready and will be included in listings that are newly generated from now on. For an example, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Cleanup listing. The change will roll out to all previous subscribers together with the next data update, approximately in mid-July. --B. Wolterding (talk) 18:01, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion - categorize the report pages edit

It might be handy if the generated report pages were all put in a category. (Give another way to find things, rather than hunting through listings of projects, and then finding the link to the report on the project page). Zodon (talk) 02:32, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's easy to do - can include that next time I run an update of all listings. --B. Wolterding (talk) 21:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Categories needing attention edit

Suggestion from Wikipedia talk:Article alerts/Feature requests: Include Category:Wikipedia categories in need of attention in the listings. --B. Wolterding (talk) 21:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Select only the clean up tags that I care about edit

I don't honestly think that WikiProject Medicine cares one way or the other about missing geocoordinates, and it generates dozens of different tags (because there's apparently a different geocoodinate tag for every country as well as each of the 50 US states). Is it possible to get "only the stuff I care about" listings, or failing that, could the geocoordinates be moved out of "clean up" and into their own major section on the page? (It would be easier to delete it en masse if it wasn't mixed in with all the other clean up cateogries). WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:55, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid that this would be very difficult, if not outright impossible. The problem is how to reasonably specify what individual projects care about or not. We have hundreds of cleanup categories, and their list keeps changing all the time; each time the bot runs again after a month or so, the configuration would be outdated. --B. Wolterding (talk) 19:56, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Articles missing image alternate text edit

Would it be possible to add articles in the cat Category:Unclassified articles missing image alternate text (& sub cats) to the cleanup listing. You may have seen the new(ish) guideline WP:ALT which is designed to help the visually impaired. At present few articles are tagged, but I suspect there are millions. I have suggested that a bot is used to identify/tag these. If they could then be included in cleanup listings wikiproject members may be encouraged to do this for articles in their areas.— Rod talk 10:52, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reply from WPEQ edit

In response to your questions on the WP Equine talk page...

The listings that you create are extremely helpful in knowing which pages in our project need cleanup and other work. There is no other tool that I (or seemingly anyone else in our project) has found that gives such a comprehensive, yet simple, view of which articles should be at the top of our priority list.

The older version of the listing worked well, and the new format is even better and more helpful! This would be a great tool to offer on a wider scale, and I think that it would be of great benefit to WP if every active project had a listing to work from.

Only a comment (not a complaint): would it be possible to add articles with NPOV and wikify tags to the listing? I think I read on one of your pages that these two categories are formatted differently (or something like that), which is why they're not already included. However, having these two categories added to the listing would be fantastic, and make a helpful tool even better.

Thank you for all the work you've done! Dana boomer (talk) 12:32, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your response - yes, I can include NPOV and Wikify from the next listing on. (Articles with COI tags, which might be seen has a "subgroup" of NPOV, are already included.) --B. Wolterding (talk) 12:13, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Religion Projects edit

Regretably, the WikiProject Religion is not one of the most active projects out there, which is one of the reasons why I sought the cleanup listing, as it could give me an idea what needs work. Having such a central listing of the articles needing work, however, is an extremely useful tool. Personally, I think most if not all WikiProjects, particularly those with fewer active participants, would welcome such information, as it saves those few active editors the need of having to go through all the articles themselves to locate such tags. I think such a listing would be very welcome by virtually all active projects. John Carter (talk) 15:31, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:DINO edit

Hi B.W.,

I just saw your posting on the Village Pump. The clean-up listings look like they could be useful for Wikipedia:WikiProject Dinosaurs. The banner is {{WikiProject Dinosaurs}}. Percentage of articles with cleanup tags edit

about 16% of all articles currently bear a cleanup tag of some kind

Out of curiosity, is this figure solely for top-of-article cleanup tags, or a combination of both inline and top-of-article, such as the {{fact}} mentioned in the sentence prior? If it's only 16% including inline, that's surprisingly low for me, though obviously not yet low enough. As for this project itself, it seems like a great idea, and I imagine that most Wikiprojects that have at least one editor who would love to just do cleanup on all their project's articles would relish such a list. Dreaded Walrus t c 17:14, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

That includes both top-of-article and inline markers. (I think I should update the figure, it must be around 17% now.) For a more detailed breakdown, see User:WolterBot/Cleanup statistics#Top cleanup categories. For example, {{fact}} is found on 5.9% of all articles. --B. Wolterding (talk) 17:19, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow... it seems like only yesterday when every article had {{fact}} all over it, or maybe I'm just imagining things. Thanks for the info! :) Dreaded Walrus t c 17:25, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

All class/importance ratings? edit

Hi, I've just subscribed WP:BARD to the cleanup listings and I notice the bot only seems to look at FA/GA class and Top/High importance articles in the Listing by article assessment section. Is this intentional or is there perhaps some issue with the project's banner or categories?

I also noticed you added the name of the WikiProject banner to the bot template, but the documentation suggests this is optional when the project name is predictable. Were you just being thorough, or did I miss something? --Xover (talk) 10:08, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi! For the Listing by article assessment: Yes, this is intentional. I introduced this section on request of some (typically larger) wikiprojects since they wanted to prioritize cleanup by quality or importance ratings. For the lower-level ratings, these lists would typically need to be suppressed anyway because they are way too long.
For the parameter: I added it because the standard name would be "WikiProject Shakespeare" (note the CamelCase), but your template is named "Wikiproject Shakespeare". The difference is minor, admittedly, bot for the bot it does make a difference. --B. Wolterding (talk) 10:22, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ah, thanks. I was just worried we had some weirdness in the banner setup. --Xover (talk) 10:34, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

French Riviera edit

First: two questions:

Is French Riviera flagged by you for clean up? (I'm cleaning it up anyway).

Will you please read at the foot of the French Riviera discussion page?

There has been much discussion about, and also unrest, that as an ENCYCLOPEDIA, Wiki must get its act together and get the FR definition right, and the Cote d'Azur definition right. It seems to be moving slowly but surely to a name change - and you ought to know about it because of the Tourism implications. I feel sure we will end up with the FR article (page) concentrating on just the traditional and historical FR, and the C d'A article (page) covering the whole of that coastline. See my talk page under Cote d@Azur 2. --JHB (talk) 14:46, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The latest report is based on data of 8 October, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Tennis/Cleanup listing. Possible to rerun? edit

I have just added a few hundred more articles to Wikipedia:WikiProject Sussex, many of which I noticed had various flags. Is it possible to have a cleanup listing rerun to pickup these new items or will have to wait until the next database dump? MortimerCat (talk) 01:41, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry but these articles will be picked up only with the next database dump. The bot simply doesn't see the changes on the live wiki, it works on a locla copy of the data only. --B. Wolterding (talk) 22:53, 29 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

WP Ancient Near East - statistics broken edit

I wanted to use Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ancient_Near_East/Cleanup_listing (warning: large page!) but something is very broken with the statistics. The page list contains articles from hundreds of categories, not just those which are part of the project. Nor is this conistent - for example:

Top-importance articles
The work group has 40 top-importance articles. 113140 of them, or 282,850.0%, are flagged for cleanup. A detailed listing is suppressed due to size restrictions.
High-importance articles
The work group has 16 high-importance articles. 7 of them, or 43.8%, are flagged for cleanup.

I have had a cursory look at what the reasons might be but couldn't readily figure out whether this is due to an incorrect invocation of the bot at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ancient_Near_East which is ...

{{User:WolterBot/Cleanup listing subscription|wgcat=WikiProject Ancient Near East articles|hidden=1}}

... whether it has something to do with the way the project banner at Template:WikiProject_Ancient_Near_East assigns categories, or whether it's simply a bug. Also, the bot hasn't run for a while. Some guidance would be much appreciated. To make things easier to check: here are the talk page of a FA/Top-importance, GA/Top-importance and a C-class/High-importance. Thanks! Enki H. (talk) 19:57, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for mentioning this. Yes, there seems to be some bug in the bot, it has produced wrong output in the latest run as well. Though I think this is not generally a problem with the categories - this works fine in many other cases. I'll investigate. --B. Wolterding (talk) 23:54, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
The problem has been fixed now. This was an error in the bot code, and not related to the category scheme. Nevertheless there is something strange about your category scheme, as Category:WikiProject Ancient Near East articles contains article pages, not talk pages (the bot expects the talk pages in the category). I changed your subscription so that the bot looks for the banner template rather than category members; this now seems to work fine. --B. Wolterding (talk) 14:43, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Guatemala - help needed edit

Hi, I've noticed the "cleanup listing will be generated shortly" template has been sitting around on Wikipedia:WikiProject Guatemala for some time now so I took a look to see what the problem was - it seems to be that it can't generate a listing because WP Guatemala is a sub-project of Wikipedia:WikiProject Central America, defined by having {{WikiProject Central America|Guatemala=yes}} on the article talk page. The only reason I had, was to inform wikipedia editors looking for information why the cleanup listings have not been updated for a long time. If I added something incorrect, please improve it, or replace the entire notice with something else. But I think something should be there, to show that the "once every 1-2 months" schedule has been dropped. --EdgeNavidad (Talk · Contribs) 20:29, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
