Speedy deletion of User:AvdITSoftware/sandbox edit

If this was the first article that you created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

The page User:AvdITSoftware/sandbox has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, or you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Re:User:AvdITSoftware/sandbox edit

I have restored the page. Without substantial changes, it is likely that the page will be re-deleted: please review this page. Please additionally note Wikipedia's policies on Conflict of Interest, which I will list below:

  Hello, AvdITSoftware. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. SpencerT•C 18:20, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of DisputeSoft edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on DisputeSoft, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Deb (talk) 14:32, 4 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Please don't e-mail to seek help. There is no reason for you to send private messages and most experienced contributors won't respond to e-mail from people they don't know. The process for appealing is described above, and that's what you need to do to get unblocked. After that, you can use the Wikipedia:Teahouse to get answers to any queries about procedure. Your biggest mistake was moving the article from Draft to mainspace without getting it reviewed first. Deb (talk) 15:06, 4 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am an associate at DisputeSoft, which was the topic of the article I attempted to post on Wikipedia and had removed for advertising. I mistakenly posted the page to the mainspace after moving it from draft version instead of having the article reviewed first. If I am unblocked, I would like to contribute to Wikipedia by editing pages related to software, data, and the IT industry, as this is my main knowledge-base. I would eventually like to post my article on DisputeSoft (the company at which I work as an employee), but would edit the page to ensure any language that may be construed as marketing is removed and peer reviewed by the Wikipedia community before posting on the mainspace. I understand that my page and account was blocked because the article I created called DisputeSoft was viewed as marketing. I would like to edit the article to remove any such marketing language, work with the Wikipedia community to ensure only historical facts about the company is posted, and also contribute to the larger Wikipedia community by editing and contributing to articles created by others surrounding the field of IT. AvdITSoftware (talk) 15:02, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

IT clearly falls within your conflict of interest, so in the short term at least, you won't be unblocked to edit about that or your company. If there are other unrelated topics you want to edit about as a general contributor, please tell what those might be. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 16:43, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

331dot If I did various edits/contributions in areas unrelated to IT (say, U.S. history, tea, and 18th century British novels), would I then in the future be able to draft another article for DisputeSoft? AvdITSoftware (talk) 17:44, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm not guaranteeing it, but it's possible, if you develop a good edit history showing that you understand Wikipedia guidelines about article content and sourcing. You will need to make another unblock request for someone else to review. 331dot (talk) 21:58, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I am an associate at DisputeSoft, which was the topic of the article I attempted to post on Wikipedia and had removed for advertising. I mistakenly posted the page to the mainspace after moving it from draft version instead of having the article reviewed first. If I am unblocked, I would like to contribute to Wikipedia by editing pages unrelated to software/IT, since these areas are too close to a conflict of interest for myself personally and the DisputeSoft article in which I drafted/company I work for. Instead, I would like to contribute to the larger Wikipedia community by editing and contributing to articles created by others surrounding topics such as U.S. history, tea, and 18th century British novels, as these are topics I am personally interested in and completely unrelated to my professional job in the IT industry. If possible, after spending time building a decent edit history on Wikipedia, I would eventually like to revisit my article I wrote on DisputeSoft (the company at which I work as an employee), but would edit the page to ensure any language that may be construed as marketing is removed and peer reviewed by the Wikipedia community before even attempting to post the article on Wikipedia's mainspace. I understand that my page and account was blocked because the article I created called DisputeSoft was viewed as marketing. I would eventually like to edit the article to remove any such marketing language and work with the Wikipedia community to ensure only historical facts about the company is posted in the article. I initially would like to step away from this topic entirely though to work on fully understanding Wikipedia's guidelines about article content writing and sourcing, by editing and working on articles completely unrelated to software/data/technology topics (such as ballet, breeds of cats, and houseplant varieties).

Accept reason:

Avdreamer, are you willing to have your promise to avoid editing IT topics logged as a formal topic ban, which can be appealed after several months? signed, Rosguill talk 05:43, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Rosguill, would this be beneficial in the long-run? Would an attempt in the future to rebuild my article be analyzed differently if I log this as a formal topic ban? I'm not familiar with the process (other than reading what you referenced above). Thanks. Avdreamer (talk) 20:25, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think that it would be beneficial, yes. If you were to not accept this condition, I would decline the block request. In theory, you could appeal to another admin, who could take a more charitable view and unblock without formalizing ban conditions, but I personally think that this is unlikely. With the formal topic ban, editing the topics covered by the ban would be met with blocks, and once a substantial amount of time has passed you could appeal, either to me or to the broader community at WP:AN. Without a topic ban there would be no set process either for preventing you from editing affected topics or for going back to editing normally. I requested your consent in this matter so as to provide transparency about what you were signing up for, but I do genuinely believe that it is your best opportunity for returning to editing Wikipedia. signed, Rosguill talk 20:37, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Rosguill, thanks for the clarification. By all means, go ahead with the formal ban then. Avdreamer (talk) 12:41, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
