• Sorry, Anthony, the above comment wasn't from me. I have your talk and user pages watchlisted (I don't recall why) and I encountered Wroehl blanking your talk and user pages. I reverted, and then he left the above message with a personal attack in it. I removed the personal attack, and forgot to add the {{subst:unsigned2}} for his comment. He's apparently irked about something that got deleted. I have no idea what, since his talk page didn't have anything on it from you. (It was Alex Roehl, which you deleted, although it was evidently tagged by someone else). I had a discussion with him about NPA, notability and civility. Guru Granth Sahib

That large section you moved to Hindu influence on the Guru Granth Sahib appears to be a copyvio of this page. I took a quick look at the version of Guru Granth Sahib prior to the date of the topix.net post and did not see the material, so I am thinking it was added later. Magnecule

However, both the references on the page are Santilli's own work. No reliable secondary sources at all. Also "magnecule" only gets 113 unique Ghits [1] many of which are irrelevant. I edited the information so it is now a stub and verifiable. Could you remove the speedy delete marker on this? There are no Google hits, (which is what I think no ghits means), but this is new information on the web, as most of the information was derived from Marathi sources, with references to very old English publications. Dab pages

A few more style issues with dab pages (you should really read over WP:MOSDAB): strive to include only one navigable link per entry, do not include external links on dab pages, do not include periods at the end of entries, and group "see also" entries into a separate section at the end. Also, entries should not usually contain the word "is", as in "Entry is a blah", but rather a comma, as each entry can be thought of as completing the sentence "Term can refer to ... entry, a blah". If you have a problem with these style precedents, bring it up on the talk page. A Simple Heart Redirection

I found the "A Simple Heart" redirection to be useful. I read a lot of the Wikipedia guidelines and it said if someone thinks a redirection is useful then it probably is, even though it may not be to you, and if it is useful to someone then it is not a candidate for deletion, certainly not speedy deletion. Ultimate Chicken Grill

Hello, I saw that this page (Ultimate Chicken Grill) I created was deleted. I would like to know why this is. All information on the page was properly sourced, and accurate. There was no disputable content. Everything is verifiable against the Wendy's website. If this is because it is about a product, there was nothing that was not NPOV, and there are many articles on food products.

Please see Category: Wendy's foods Which is a cateogry that I am working to broaden on Wikipedia. There are many articles on foods from McDonald's, Burger King etc.

To point to a category, write it as e.g. [[:Category:Wendy's foods]] with an extra colon at the start, not with nowiki codes.

  • Four, wow. I've seen dab pages for two items as well, but I've also often moved the primary topic over such pages and left disambiguation to be handled by a hatlink. There's not one fixed way to do it. It sounds like what we want is for Space Patrol to be a general disambig page. After that, we've got options. (A) Move the 1962 series to Space Patrol (TV series), with a hatlink to point at Space Patrol (1950s). (B) Make Space Patrol (TV series) a redirect to Space Patrol. Thanks for restoring RS Public Company Limited. I can see why it was deleted and why it fell off my radar during my wikibreak. It was improperly moved from R.S. Promotion after a lot of problematic changes were made by another editor. The current name is more correct. What I hope to accomplish is to revert the contents to an earlier, less-spammy version of R.S. Promotion, but under the new name. • The move of the article to "History of Communist Bulgaria" is abusive and ignores the more common name (as shown by Google Books and Google Scholar). I thought Admins checked the new title before completing a request... Moreover, no double redirects were fixed.Anonimu 07:02, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
• That depends on whether this or that reader considers the word "Communist" to be abusive. I here in England have seen many times such expressions as "In Communist times in nation XXX, YYY happened." without it being intended to be abusive or politically loaded. • Isn't wiki based on npov and most common names? These deletions were certainly not my intention: I can only conclude that the cause was a software editing glitch, perhaps caused by me and someone else (who perhaps was moving items about in the course of "housekeeping") trying to edit Wikipedia:Requested moves at the same time. When an editing clash happens (i.e. two or more people trying to edit the same text at the same time), the resulting process may lead to one editor's actions being attributed to another editor. Hi Anthony! A category on a redirect? Absolutely! What's wrong with that? I've been using this technique quite extensively in order to produce overviews such as these:

• Category:True vipers
• Category:True vipers by common name
• Category:True vipers by taxonomic synonyms

The first one has some redirects, while the last two consist mostly of redirects. In this manner it's possible to provide very effective overviews that would otherwise be rather awkward to manage. --Jwinius 23:31, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Question about combining two templates

I am wanting to conbine the templates for the Elkins/Buckhannon/Weston (in WV) area and Morgantown/Clarksburg/Fairmont (also in WV). The two markets are so close and no one in Elkins considers Elkins it's own market. Most, if not all, of the stations in the Elkins/Buckhannon/Weston area can been heard in Morgantown/Clarksburg/Fairmont and vice versa.

If I do combine them, do I need the histories of the two templates transfer to the one I am making or is it fresh slate? - NeutralHomer ^T:C 07:59, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Mixing the edit histories of two pages which before that were edited independently in parallel, is NOT a good idea.

The current names are {{Morgantown Radio}} (which covers Clarksburg and Fairmont) and {{Elkins-Buckhannon-Weston Radio}} (which covers the rest of the area).

The new name would be "North-Central West Virginia Radio". The area where all these towns are is called "North-Central West Virginia" and is often used in branding for stations.

Now, there are a couple stations that would fall into a new category, "Central West Virginia", but I can make a template for them.

I can understand your confusion if Ancient Egypt isn't something you have studied intensively. In the 19th century archaeologists made speculations about Pithom and Ramesses being the places mentioned in the story of the Exodus. These have since been corrected at the level of trained Egyptologists, but the myths have lived on among some "biblical archaeologists" and laypeople.

In 1883 E. Neville excavated a large brick built enclosure (some 210 x 210 m) with a badly damaged temple at Tell el-maskhuta, in wadi tumilat. (In the late period a canal through this wadi enabled ships to sail from the Nile into the Red Sea) Most scholars, though not all, identify Tell el-maskhuta with ancient Egyptian Tjeku and Pithom, (probably from per-Atum, The "Domain of Athom") of the Exodus and the capital of the Eighth Lower Egyptian nome.

Pithom is an ancient city in Egypts delta. Its mentioned in Exodus as a treasure city in the same breath as Ramesses. You would have to know that from the Hyksos period onward there are emporia in both the delta and Thebes. In the delta cities like Sais served as "Treasure cities" business or banking centers. At Thebes Elim on the Red Sea also served as a business or banking centers for the Red Sea trade in Frankincense, Myhr, bitumen and the perfumes and ointments used at Karnak's mortuary temples.

Pithom and Rameses are located at opposite ends of the kingdom.

If you want to go with the myth perpetuated by P. Monet and E. Neville the basic problem is that following the stations list its clear the Exodus crosses the Red Sea between Elim and Elat. Elim, the sixth station, is Thebes Red Sea port. Elat, the ninth station is at the head of the gulf of Aqaba. There are no stations in the Sinai. The Exodus is dated to the 18th and not the 19th Dynasty. The route from Egypt to Elat across the Sinai doesn't exist.

The term "Red Sea" is Greek (Erythrian Sea) not Hebrew. The term "Yam Suph" or reed Sea is speculation on speculation. The Pharoah of the Exodus is not Ramesses, thats another speculation.

I've been wondering for a while about this statement in the article, so that the Governance section can be filled in: "1939: World War II started. Trafford Park became a borough."

I know that in 1907 an application was made to Lancashire County Council to make Trafford Park an urban district in its own right, but that was turned down. Healthways (medical company) and company articles in general

I have been contributing to a number of existing articles on Nashville-based businesses lately, and I intend to add a number of new ones. One I hope to add would be on Healthways Inc., a publicly traded company in the disease-management sector of the healthcare industry. I see that you deleted a previous article on that company as spam, though I have no way to know what its content was. Before I try to post anything, I would like to know whether you hold a definite opinion that Healthways does not merit an article, or that articles on companies like that one are spam by definition.

I have no connection to Healthways or any of the other companies I am writing about. Any guidance will be appreciated.

Define "notable." I'm not being flip, and I don't want to argue on behalf of any particular company. But is there a consensus that a company whose stock trades on a major exchange is notable? I'm inclined to think there should be, but it's not clear to me whether there is. If not, what about a company that is a component of one or more S&P indices? A company with more than 2,500 employees and operations throughout the US and in Europe? Healthways happens to meet those criteria. But I really don't know what the cutoff point ought to be in defining notability.

The admonishment about "advertising" is unfortunate. I made quite clear that I have no connection to this or any company that I'm writing about. My interest is in covering an aspect of life in my city that is covered quite unevenly at present.

  • I moved Healthways to Healthways (medical company), to leave Healthways as a redirect, which I changed to a disambig between the medical consultancy firm and the scuba gear firm.
  • User:Anthony Appleyard found that all or most of Healthways (medical company) was unclearly-worded advertisement copied from various subpages of http://www.healthways.com/, and replaced it by stub and external pointer.
  • User:208.254.173.254 reverted Healthways (medical company) to the full text, and afterwards edited it.
  • User:Anthony Appleyard tagged it {{advertisement}}.
  • User:66.93.209.195 tagged it {{db-spam}}.
  • User:Jimfbleak deleted it.

Please recreate this template. User:Pizza1512 has been causing massive disruption to the university of oxford wikiproject by recreating these userbox templates, replacing them on user pages, and then having the originals deleted. What does db-web mean? You definitely did not visit the site so I wouldn't think that refers to the site. Was the article drafted wrongly.

I can see why you redirected the various Lil Eazy-E pages to the Eazy-E article (when I started tagging them, the original article had been deleted—while I was busy tagging away, it was recreated as a protected redirect). However, it doesn't make sense to send the various Kings of LA pages there (it has nothing to do with Eazy-E and there's no mention of it in the article). Your translation looks ok to me, but the editor speaks German alright. The same user name contibutes to the German Wikipedia, where it replies to messages written in German. Your translation looks ok to me, but I'd prefer if you'd do any modification yourself. "Überschreiten" means to "cross" (literal meaning: "step over"), and no wonder you didn't recognize the second word; the Meyers page must have been read by OCR software so the word you didn't know is "Ausweisen" (verb) = "to expel". As a noun it becomes "Ausweisung" (= the actual act of expelling somebody). I've uploaded a few more contemporary illustrations to Commons:Category:Second Schleswig War. One shows Danish and German outposts each guarding one end of the bridge across the Eider. The reason for the deletion tag is because an identical copy exists on commons

• Anthony Appleyard, hi!. You placed a "hangon" tag on Image:South_Asia_subdivisions_flood_hit_between_July_3_and_August_15_2007.png, stating that it's used by 2007 South Asian floods. I know the image is used by 2007 South Asian floods - I put it there and created the image in the first place. The reason why it's been labeled with "speedy delete" is because I've placed a copy on Commons - see here for proof. Please note that it's wikipolicy that images that exist on Commons should not be held on Wikipedia as well. Consequently, I placed delete tags on the wikicopy. As a copy exists on Commons, I tagged it with the tag that says "delete it off Wikipedia, a copy exists on Commons". As the creator and sole editor, I also tagged it with "speedy delete". By putting both tags on it, I hoped to speed up the deletion process. I assume you are concerned that if the image is deleted on Wikipedia, then it will vanish from the article. Let me reassure you that that will not happen. When it is deleted off Wikipedia, the article will pick up the Commons copy automatically - indeed, this has already happened with the other maps on 2007 South Asian floods, and also happens with thousands of other images that used to be held on Wikipedia but are now held on Commons. I'm not sure what to do now: I'll leave a message on your talk page first to make sure you understand, and if you could remove your disputed tag that would be great. I fully believe that it was his intent to cause trouble, as his prior revert was reverted, and he was warned to wait for citation. I wasn't having a great day, and the number of deliberate moves against consensus and against the citation had really put me up a wall. I probably shouldn't have used the edit summarys and comments I made, but when someone's being deliberate about it, it's hard to AGF. Anyways, I have amanged to find another admin to help sort things out properly. With any luck, my recent addition to the talk page will help keep the page in place. As for the 'dispute'. there's not one. What we have (had?) was one editor acting against a consensus he was notified about, and doing so in a deliberately disruptive style. Other editors who were notified about the reversion and reasoning, as you can see in that section, were responsive to the notification. Only Bloodpack found reason to cause trouble afterwards. The issue has been resolved in geneeral, the page is in the right place, and so on. Unless there's further disruption to the page, I doubt there's anythign to really pursue. Speedy deletions of Scottish-related categories

A few days ago you speedy deleted a whole set of userbox caregories, associated with en-sc:

These cats are now up for CFD discussion, and I wonder if it would be possible to see the original content of the set of cats prior to their speedy deletion. I had spent a lot of time carefully crafting the content of those cateogories (they were modelled on various other en-xx sets of usercats) and I do not think that my current speedy restoration of said cats does them justice. (By the way, why on earth did you delete them in the first place. The "db" template says that they will be deleted in 4 days, not immediately.)--Mais oui! 07:09, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Errrr.... the "db-catempty" template specifically says: "The reason given is: It is a category that is empty and has been empty for at least four days." That was blatantly untrue, and in my opinion a breach of good faith by the User who applied the db template, after they had gone round editing Users userpages to depopulate the cats.

Anyway, details aside, are you going to provide me with copies of my work on those cats prior to your very hasty deletion of them, or are you not? I merely ask because I did a great deal of research into the related sets of cats; I feel that my work was unfairly/unreasonably speedily deleted; and it would save me a great deal of time and effort in doing all the research again. --Mais oui! 07:54, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

It may be wiser in the future to create at least one of the files that are intended to go in a category, and then create the category, so the category never exists empty.

Unfortunately, old edits of categories do not store information about what files were in those categories at the time.

I did "create at least one of the files that are intended to go in a category" prior to each creation. But unfortunately another user then went round redirecting every template to an identical (but renamed) template, and edited Users userpages, therefore depopulating the entire set of cats.

He also blanked the cats, so we have lost the original content. Ah well, c'est la vie. Just a shame that that behaviour was not recognised as the blatant vandalism which I consider it to have been. In reverting the actions of the User I was reported to 3RR and suffered a 48 hour block for my pains. What exactly is one supposed to do in such circumstances?

Well, its a bit late for that now. Firstly, I suffered a totally unjust 48 hour 3RR block for reverting blatant vandalism. Secondly we have the Wikipedia:User_categories_for_discussion#Scottish_English discussion ongoing. Thirdly, if Taric 25 really does want to delete or merge all my templates then all he had to do was take them to TFD, but instead he chose to act unilaterally, without a scintilla of discussion, and despite protests. The Berkeley Electronic Press page was NOT advertising

The page on Berkeley Electronic Press was deleted, and it appears from the deletion log that you were the person who did it, on the grounds of 'blatant advertising'. I insist that the page I wrote about Berkeley Electronic Press was not in any way an act of advertising. I AM NOT associated with Berkeley Electronic Press. I am a frequent Wikipedian with an interest in economics. Wikipedia has a page on List of scholarly journals in economics and most of these have their own Wikipedia articles. I added the article on Berkeley Electronic Press for the same reason. I could have written separate pages on each journal they publish, but that would have taken too much time.

Also, in my article on BEP I discussed some of the things that make it and its journals different. I don't know for sure how BEP has been received in other fields, but in my own field of economics there is a lot of excitement about BEP's methods. Unlike almost any other economics journals, BEP simultaneously considers papers for publication at different "ranks" of prestige (which makes it less risky to submit a paper for consideration at BEP than elsewhere). Also, the economics field is notorious for having delays of several years between submission of a paper and its eventual publication. BEP adopted a new model in which they guarantee quick evaluation, on the basis of requiring those who submit papers for publication also to act as referees, who moreover must agree to pay large financial penalties if they fail to submit their evaluations quickly. My description of these policies in the BEP article may have sounded like advertising, but they are simply factual descriptions of innovations that explain how a new publisher has very quickly become one of the most important publishers in economics.

As someone who follows the television industry, and contributes to many TV-related articles here, I can tell you this for a fact. If you don't believe me, do your own research. The Fountain of Tyr

You deleted my entry on the "Fountain of Tyr" stating it as "nonsense", when in fact it's far from nonsense.

While I admit that I didn't state any verifiable sources, it's far from "nonsense" and certainly not worthy of instant deletion. Simply doing a Google search on "fountain of tyr" (with quotes) will provide a few references to it, and I think that in itself proves there is some validity to the entry in Wikipedia.
