Notability of Night Flight Big Band edit

A tag has been placed on Night Flight Big Band, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Tiptoety 18:55, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Warning! edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself, as you did with Night Flight Big Band. If you do not believe the article should be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Tiptoety 19:10, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Magic City Jazz Orchestra edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Magic City Jazz Orchestra, by Precious Roy (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Magic City Jazz Orchestra seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Magic City Jazz Orchestra, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I guess I just looked right past Lou Marini - even I know he's notable enough for this to pass WP:BAND, so I've removed the notability tag. The article still needs some references from non-primary sources, which is to say independent sources that the band or Each does not control. Articles from Birmingham Weekly, The Birmingham News and such would work best here. As for the liner notes, it would be hard to get those put legally on here, as they would have to be licensed under the GFDL. See this article for the information you need. Moreover, liner notes such as those you included tend to be overly promotional, and promotion of anything is just not allowed at Wikipedia. So you'd probably do best to leave the liner notes off, and go with the article as it is with some added references from reliable sources. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 07:04, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
See this page. Let me emphasize that excerpts from liner notes and reviews are generally frowned upon, if not outright prohibited, from being included in the text of Wikipedia articles. Review excerpts are either too praising and promotional, or too critical and expressive of a non-neutral point of view. A link to a review, however, is perfectly acceptable, and even encouraged as a reliable source. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 02:36, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Leonard Candelaria edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Leonard Candelaria, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.edwards-instruments.com/trumpet/artists/candelaria.shtml. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 21:05, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image source problem with Image:Lous Blues Cover.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Lous Blues Cover.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:03, 31 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Thank you. Duplicate images uploaded edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Branford Marsalis and Ray Reach 2.JPG. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Branford Marsalis and Ray Reach.JPG. The copy called Image:Branford Marsalis and Ray Reach.JPG has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 13:00, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Branford and Ray.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Branford and Ray.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:06, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Branford Marsalis and Ray Reach 2.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Shell babelfish 17:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests edit

Hello, I don't know if you checked back, but you had a couple of replies to your query at Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests. I placed the conflict of interest tag on the Magic City Jazz Orchestra article. The conflict of interest comes, I believe, from the fact that based on your username, you seem to have something to do with the band you are writing about. If you really have nothing to do with them, then by all means remove the tag. I offered some more advice when I answered your question, and I think it would be helpful for you to read some of the articles I suggested for ideas on how to make it more encyclopaedic. Try adding something about the history of the orchestra for example. You could also do with adding some inline citations. Hopefully the welcome links above are of some use too. If you need more help, let me know.--BelovedFreak 16:55, 17 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't see the conflict of interest myself. If you are indeed connected with the band, then there is a conflict of interest, no matter how "neutral" the article is. This policy is to keep people from writing about themselves, their companies, their bands, their clubs, and so on, because people generally are not totally objective about subjects they are directly involved in. Right now, the only issue I see is references, and they way you have cited them. See this page for the proper format. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 18:20, 17 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ray Reach edit

Before you continue, perhaps you should start adding some in-line citations to the article. The article is in need of a clean up as theres no proper sources and there are too many external links embedded in the body of the article.--SilverOrion (talk) 08:06, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Refs on Magic City Jazz Orchestra edit

Allen, there is still a problem. Two of your main references are from BhamWiki. Generally speaking, Wikipedia and its spin-offs are not considered valid references unto themselves, mainly because they can easily be changed by the person citing them to suit their purposes. The reference to Bates Brothers adds nothing to the article, as I can find no mention of the band there. You still need to find some independent, reliable sources for this article, such as a newspaper or magazine. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Then you need to put the links to the specific pages where those items are mentioned, not just generic web site links. Don't make the reader go hunting through a site or Google to verify what you write. The onus is always on you the writer, not the reader. Never forget that. I know I'm probably coming across as the college professor who always made you go back and work on the footnotes in a research paper, but the exact same principle applies. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:40, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK, will do. Sorry, I'm new at this Wikipedia stuff. Thanks for being patient with me. Also, I removed one of the BhamWiki links (to the SuperJazz Big Band), and exchanged it with an article on AllAboutJazz.com. I will find a better reference for the UAB Jazz Ensemble reference... perhaps the UAB website? Allenstone (talk) 19:44, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Much better! I found the direct link at Bates Brothers site (I right-clicked on the Jazz link and it came up) and fixed that ref. All About Jazz is definitely a reliable source regarding jazz and is widely used at Wikipedia. Looks like it is good to go now. By the way, I normally would have done some of this myself and saved you the trouble, but it's high school football season and I'm busy chasing after Golden Gophers and Purple Tigers and Blue Devils and all other manner of colors and critters. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 22:02, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

Update regarding copyright concern edit

Since we do not yet have verification of permission by the processes set out above and sufficient time has passed since the placement of the notice, the article has been deleted for copyright concerns. Since you had indicated on the article's talk page that you intended to verify permission but were out of state, we retained the material for a full seven days beyond the usual closure date, but lacking any further indication that such is forthcoming have closed the listing. This deletion is not necessarily permanent. If you have already sent a letter to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) and GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) (if you are not the copyright holder or have co-authored the material, release under CC-BY-SA-compatible license alone is sufficient), the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed by the Wikimedia Communications committee. Likewise, if you have not yet sent a letter, you still may (or resend it, if you believe your original may have been lost), and the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed.

As Wikipedia does not require proof of identity on account creation, it is essential that we receive external proof of authorization in order to ensure that we remain compliant with US Copyright law. It is also essential that we verify that copyright holders understand the extent of the release they are authorizing, in that our licenses permit modification and reuse in any forum, even commercial publication, as long as authorship credit is maintained and future copies are compatibly licensed.

Please note that once permission is verified, the material may be evaluated and altered to meet Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Although we appreciate donations, we cannot guarantee that material donated will be retained.

If you have questions about the verification procedure, please feel free to contact me at my talk page. Alternatively, you might address them at the talk page of the copyright policy, which is generally monitored by volunteers experienced in processing such matters. Thank you. You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:44, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ray Reach edit

I am glad someone is taking Ray Reach's article seriously. However, there are a number of problems with the layout of the article. Please take a look at the Manual of Style for the Wikipedia.

  1. The photos should reflect the text and be placed in order to enhance the points being made, and in general, are not larger than 220px-- usually 300px is the largest size ever used in any article, and is often excessive.
  2. Please take the time on Reach's talk page and set aside all the references from the external links section, and encourage other editors to use and integrate the info into the article. The external links section often becomes an unsightly dumping ground. It is expected normally to serve as a place only for official websites, not future sources. # The most glaring problem is the discography section. Please take a look at the discographies for other artists to get an idea of what exactly is a proper discography. Good examples might include those for Jaco Pastorius, or Snow Patrol. Album covers do not belong in the biographical articles. It's why we have album articles! That is where they belong, except in rare cases where some articles are missing photos completely, or have notable artwork, done by famous artists, or that cause controversy. It's the only reason they are only allowed under fair use rationales. Each cover (unless there's more than one when two releases of the same album exist) should be placed in separate album articles. We even create song articles too, when possible.

I don't mean to bark at you and be so critical, but each are really valid problems that we take seriously. If you want help with anything, feel free to leave a message on my talk page! All of these things can be fixed quickly, and painlessly. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 20:57, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Henry Panion edit

Hi. Much of the content of this article, which you created in July 2007, has had to be removed, as it appears to have been copied from his official website. This issue was flagged for me by another contributor, and while I have looked I'm afraid I cannot find any evidence to support that they may have copied it from us. (This sometimes does happen, but in such cases we still must remove the content unless we can offer strong evidence of backwards copying.)

I see that this article was created prior to your notification of our policies regarding copyright. Just as a reminder, please do not copy any content onto Wikipedia for which you do not have verified authorization unless you can prove that it is public domain or compatibly licensed. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:30, 30 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

The article Blue Lou and Misha Project – Highly Classified has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not enough independent sources for an article of substance. Questionable notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
