RfCU case

Please see my comments regarding Mike there before releasing any information :) Cheers, Daniel (talk) 01:51, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Daniel, I've just commented on that on ANI just now ... - Alison 01:53, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Do it Alison. Human life trumps wikipedia rule bullshit, and you know it. Do it. Keeper ǀ 76 02:30, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for contacting Mike and getting his explicit approval (he emailed me just before you posted saying you had contacted him). For whatever reason he felt he should be contacted before any release at all was made, and I was simply the messenger; I hope you can appreciate my role was simply that, and not anti-yourself or similar. Daniel (talk) 03:34, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
'sokay, Daniel. I appreciate where you're coming from on this one and yes, that stuff is important. Fortunately, though, I'm in regular contact with Mike and happened to have his cell handy. Of course, this wouldn't be available to just anyone, so ... well, it was kinda lucky, I guess. Mike's take on this was that he was confused by your email as it appeared to him that you were requesting release of privacy-related data to an arbitrary third-party, and he wasn't cool with that. I pointed out that I intended to go to the police, and the police only and he was perfectly fine with my doing that.

Irish Wikipedia

Hello, I see you are active on the Irish Wikipedia. I was considering going there myself eventually - these days I'm learning the Irish language in my spare time (wow, do I ever need a hobby, eh?). Is there any way somebody with little knowledge of the language can become an active contributor there? Master&Expert (talk) 21:12, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Gawiki technical dictionary

I've been translating an article and a template (and hoping to do more) at gawiki. I was wondering if you know whether gawiki has a technical dictionary of sorts — my conversational Irish is fine, but finding the technical terms for "template", "stub", "sysop", etc. is time-consuming. Stifle (talk) 09:36, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

By the way, I've opened a translation queue for en to ga (or other intersections of languages I speak). Stifle (talk) 10:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I've moved this to the bottom because you seem to have missed it. Understandable, given your popularity ;) Stifle (talk) 11:01, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I owe you an answer on this one. Will get back to you in the morning .... - Alison 09:49, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Exercising caution

I don't agree I'm pushing a point-of-view, and I've gone into great detail explaining why previously. With you I reckon it was mostly at Talk:Garda Síochána. I haven't asserted Indymedia sources; I reverted for other reasons. I will try to exercise caution, though.

Mattkachu rangeblock

Would rangeblocks that affect the following addresses be viable?

The reason I ask is because this is all block evasion by User:Mattkachu, whom was blocked indefinitely after a checkuser caught him socking to re-add the same hoax information the IPs are adding to Witchcraft, and recently he's been appearing rather often.-Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 00:16, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Lapsed Pacifist

Hi Alison. I've got most of the Shell to Sea-related articles on my watchlist (after I edited them all for NPOV and weasel words and such). Anyway, User:Lapsed Pacifist continuously reverts all my changes (along with accusations of white-washing, blanking etc). The initial edits were to make the language neutral, and if I have blanked sections, I have a proper reason for doing so. He has an admitted WP:COI (being involved in the campaign), but nothing happened when I brought it up on the COI noticeboard. I've also explained it to him on his talk page (as I see you have) with no result, and I've tried to reason with him on several talk pages, also with no result, so I've given up engaging him. I'm reverting all of his changes at the moment... My question is: as the COI noticeboard didn't have any effect, what's the next step? Thanks! Fin© 17:21, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

rollback criteria

Out of interest for a friend, I was wondering what your criteria are to give someone roll back i.e. would you do if they are lovely, mature and block-free, but haven't made a huge number of edits? Sticky Parkin 22:09, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Apology

Hi. Sorry for any trouble I seem to have caused. I'll be keeping my nose clean from now on Mustycrusty (talk) 09:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. That's okay. What you did was technically wrong; using multiple accounts to avoid scrutiny, but so long as you stick to one account and not pretend to be someone else, you'll be fine - Alison 03:59, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Being careful

Alison, you're not outdoing yourself on the impartiality front here. You write on my talk page that I'm edit-warring, and seemingly mine alone. I don't see any similar warning on 9x5's page, nor Djegan's, nor Snappy56's, nor Garda40's. Why not? I've read WP:COI, and remain cautious. I certainly dispute that I'm campaigning aggresively, unlike say, editors who whitewash, delete relevant links, create sockpuppets, etc. As for editing user talk pages, what gives? I ask a user if they're a sockpuppet. They delete the question. You block the user for being a sockpuppet. What's the problem? If editors refuse to back up their edits on talk pages, how can you call that consensus? Have you even read the relevant talk pages recently? You certainly haven't contributed to them; Talk:Garda Síochána comes to mind as one instance where I'm still waiting for a response from you. I've had an Rfc before, I was happy with how it went (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Lapsed_Pacifist).

Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 15:22, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

And how is this:

Your choice of topics

Mustycrusty (talk, contributions) edited only Shell to Sea-related articles, but caught a lot of flak for vandalism and disappeared on the 20th of September. Three days later, you arrive, and edit S2S-related articles almost exclusively, but with a little more subtlety. Well, not that much more, in fairness. Anything you'd like to say on the matter?

Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 10:19, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

LP: After reviewing your history on Wikipedia which shows a pattern of unreasonable and sometimes aggressive behaviour and as suggested by guidelines I won't be engaging you in conversation. Might I remind you of WP:ETIQ, WP:AGF, WP:NEWBIE, WP:NVC, WP:NPA, WP:NOTBATTLEGROUND, I will shortly be removing this post from my talk page Greenlightgo (talk) 13:12, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

That's a less than satisfactory answer. I disagree with your assessment of my history on Wikipedia, but that's by the way, because yours is fast becoming far more interesting to me. Have you realised that 40% of your edits are reversions of my edits? Have you ever edited under another username? Surely you understand why my curiosity has been piqued?

Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 13:20, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

so offensive to you? I ask a sockpuppet are they a sockpuppet. You then block them for being a sockpuppet. What's the big deal?

Lapsed Pacifist (talk) 15:50, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure of the correct ettiquette, but...

Yo Alison, I see you handled some of the checkusering of Aldrich Hanssen (talk · contribs). I know there are official procedures to go through and it's bad form to fish and so on, but if you could have a look at some of the contributors to the Non-voting and Omniarchy articles I suspect there may be socks of the same individual lurking. Agus leatsa freisin :) I took a quick peek and he doesn't seem to be around at all right now, sorry - Alison 03:52, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Could you look at this?

We currently have consensus, on the Kevin Barry article, based on the discussion here. This article is currently subject to Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/The_Troubles#Final_remedies_for_AE_case, as laid out during a previous WP:AE case that closed October 05, 2008. This places all editors on a WP:1RR and notice of it has been posted on the article talk page here. Since it introduction one editor has tried to avoid sanctions by using different IP addresses. I have listed some which I consider to be the same editor. A review of the Article history here will show a pattern of persistent disruption since August 2007.

This editor 89.100.135.172 began editing in August 2007 followed by 87.198.141.22 in addition to this WP:SPA User:Dannylookup [1] always making the same edit. 87.198.141.22 then blanked the page a number of times. 87.198.141.98 started and also 87.198.141.98 blanked the page. Then 87.198.228.246 started, followed by 83.70.118.185 either inserting the same information of blanking the page. This was followed by 213.79.35.224 this IP. Then another IP 87.198.252.66 doing the exact same thing. Likewise this IP 87.232.1.94, and this 87.198.252.179 and this 86.43.66.206 and now this 87.198.228.214

Domer-I'm away from my computer right now but I'll get to this latr today. On the phone here - Alison 19:09, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

No worries, thanks, --Domer48'fenian' 19:48, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Domer - I took a look over there and noticed that Foz has fully protected the page now as being subject to a content dispute. I left a comment on the talk page as to their behaviour as I see it. I'm not entirely sure it's a 'content dispute', per se, and not just some single disruptor who's warring against clear consensus. I'll check in with Foz later tonight - Alison 03:58, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

User:RafaelRGarcia

Hey Alison. I've blocked User:RafaelRGarcia twice in the last two days for BLP violations and edit warring. Now it seems he may have been socking from User:128.253.170.108. Since this may be quickly getting out of hand, could you take a look if you have time? Thanks, Gwen Gale (talk) 19:16, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Gwen, I'm sorry but the edit-warring he's doing right now doesn't warrant my connecting his username to an IP address, so I won't comment as to the one above. Sorry about that - Alison 03:37, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Understood, thanks Alison! Gwen Gale (talk) 09:39, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

MascotGuy

When you get the chance and you're bored (yeah, right!), could you look into the IP of the latest MascotGuy accounts for October and see if his IP has stabilized into something blockable? I believe that he changes IPs a lot and uses a large ISP that would not be very blockable, but maybe times have changed and he's using something more fixed. Thanks! =D -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:38, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I just blocked a previously blocked IP. That should hopefully help a lot - Alison 04:05, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

WP:CHU Sockfarm

Cara Speicher (talk · contribs), Mr. Scott Ehlen (talk · contribs), Michael Mathis (talk · contribs), Feltic Felton (talk · contribs),Michael Collin Mathis (talk · contribs) - all appear to be a sockfarm based on username-change requests, and while I don't think there's a reason to run a check because their contribs aren't damning, a positive result could allow us to put a kibosh on all the username-change requests they're putting in (which, frankly, were flooding the page). -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 17:56, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Jéské - there are actually dozens of them there,   Confirmed as being the one editor. I've hardblocked a school IP now as a result. It's the same guy as Anthony Alda (talk · contribs) above, BTW. Stalker (again)

Alison, I know that you are on break, and I do not wish to impose on your time, but I feel comfortable coming to you since you have dealt with this matter previously. You may recall that, sometime back, I had a problem with a stalker who serially reverted all my edits. Well, he has returned. I am wondering if a range block is not in order to bring his spree to an end. Thanks for your time. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 14:08, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Just to rub in in, your comment here, did not have the affect I hoped for, still going against consensus. LOL, --Domer48'fenian' 17:16, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Meh! Domer - it's one of those unusual cases that it's okay to semi-protect the page to force the anon IP-hopping editor to the talk page. Nothing else seems to work, so the page is now protected for two weeks. It's pretty much tantamount to disruptive editing as you guys have worked so hard on that stuff, and this editor refuses to communicate. I've semi-protected it for two weeks now - Alison 02:36, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
RJ - I took a look and everything's blocked now. If the guy persists, there's a rangeblock I can apply which will stop his using IPs to revert. See how things go and just let me know if he comes back. I'll block him on sight if he's reported here - I won't stand for that behaviour at all - Alison 02:51, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Alison, I appreciate that immensely. Thank you. Of course, the vandal thinks differently... ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 03:42, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Possible User:Bambifan101 sock

I think this one may be another sock of Bambifan101, but he seems to be making more of an effort to be "good" most of the time so harder to tell. Can it be checked?

I've since dealt with the police as best I could, though they were pretty-much at sea on the whole matter. Still, they got the information they need to follow it up should they do so, and they can also contact me if needs be. And that's about as good as we can get. Let's leave the policy stuff for another day, but I do think we need to revisit this when we have a so-called "spare moment" :) It's unfair to basically throw this one unto some hapless checkuser who's passing by and have them make the tough call - Alison 04:21, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Domer

Alison Domer has given an indication that he will let it drop could this be the end of it now, and no more need for further sanctions I'm sure he is feeling very persecuted at the moment when maybe an email a month or so ago might have resolved this. But I am not telling you either how to handle these things as you have tons of experience in situations like this. Thanks for your time. BigDuncTalk 19:28, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Dunc and I take your point on the email :) I've just replied on Domer's talk page so I think this will be the end of it. While we're on the subject, though, I'd like to apologize to you about making assumptions as I did over the past few weeks or so. I was off on a number of matters, IMO. You've been doing some serious work around here and you have been playing by the book with other editors like Thunderer. In fairness, you've not been doing a ton of edit-warring and you're doing your best to work with some of you "adversaries" and that's not an easy job. I just want so say sorry for misjudging you over the last while. I'll try to pay better attention :) - Alison 19:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your checkuser on me

Regarding this - None of those are sockpuppets. Three of them are throwaway accounts that I created because I didn't want to associate my main account with those topics (that's not against the rules afaik). Johnnycashnin, Crazytrain89 and Parmegan all created one topic in the talk pages and replied only to the topics that they created, and that was that. I didn't respond to those topics with any other account name or try to deceive anyone by "agreeing" with myself, and those accounts were created before I was given that warning so they were not an attempt to dodge sanctions or whatever. Enairku was just recently created for Ukraine topics (look at the user page, I publicly said it's the same user as Krawndawg), and Krawndawg is/was my main account, which I've all but given up on. I don't believe it has ever crossed paths with this account. This account was created to edit in war-related articles specifically. You're not going to find any instance of me using these accounts to POV push or edit war or for any other dubious activity. I don't understand where your accusation comes from "A few of them appear to be throwaway accounts for revert-warring on 2008 South Ossetia war" ? I didn't revert war with any of them, I've never even edited in the main South Ossetia war article with any other account than this one. And what is the basis that I'm "possibly" related to the user I was accused of being a sock of?LokiiT (talk) 12:20, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Why did you pretend you were not aware of the 3rr here [18][19] when you obviously were? And in general, why do you create new accounts to make points on the South Ossetia page? That's exactly what that page doesn't need. Grey Fox (talk) 13:50, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
LokiiT, you used Johnnycashnin and Crazytrain89 to edit the same page (Talk:2008 South Ossetia war) and you used Krawndawg and Enairku to edit the same subject, Enlargement of NATO. Those are impermissible uses of alternate accounts, and once you do that you lose the presumption of good faith. Checkusers are not required to examine every alternate account to determine if perhaps one of them was used for permissible purposes. "Creating one topic" on a talk page is far too narrow an interpretation of the alternate account policies and I doubt you will find any admin willing to sanction that behavior. Thatcher 14:34, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
I didn't use any alternate account to sockpuppet, vandalize, edit war or gain consensus. And like I already said, I made a point of stating that Enairku was Krawndawg because I didn't want anyone accusing me of sockpuppeting. That's not against the rules and I had no bad intentions. LokiiT (talk) 15:34, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
LokiiT, your use of multiple accounts was most certainly unacceptable. Note also that the policy explicitly talks about "evading scrutiny" for one. Also, using them to give impression that there is more support than there is, is another. The talk page of 2008 South Ossetia war is the last place on the project that needs socking of any shape or sort. So, I'm sorry but I'm calling this abuse of multiple accounts, yes - Alison 01:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

A confirmed sockpuppet?

Hi Alison,

Is any specific reason why User:Guyver85 was not blocked? He was confirmed by you as a sockpuppet of indefinitely blocked user Top_Gun (talk · contribs), as follows from this report [22]. He simply stated: "no, I am not him" and continue editing. This is obviously him, as he edits precisely the same articles and has exactly same problems, like copyright violations [23]. What do you think? Thank you.Biophys (talk) 22:17, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Biophys. No, I'd no idea why he was left running about, given that he was   Confirmed as a sock. It's not usual for checkusers to block RFCU cases based on the results. Usually either the ever-busy checkuser clerks do it, or the person filing the requests puts a request in at ANI to have them blocked. I guess this one slipped through somehow - Alison 23:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Troubles

Since you commented: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Arbitration_enforcement#Modified_remedies_proposalRlevseTalk 02:29, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

See new change I made...1) should Sarah be on civility parole and 2) can you draft up a list of articles needing 1RR restriction? RlevseTalk 11:29, 4 October 2008 (UTC) Can we use this list: Wikipedia:WikiProject Irish Republicanism/Watchlist or is it too slanted toward the Irish side? RlevseTalk 15:02, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually Sarah is already on civility parole. But then Sarah hasn't been uncivil except in response to uncivil attacks. Sarah does not accept that she must endure unrestrained incivility and attacks by Admins and others which go unremarked and unchecked while she is denied the right to reply in kind. While Sarah will endeavor to remain civil she will never, ever, ever, ever accept lopsided restrictions. Alison is my "mentor" (I think) and she points out to me whenever she feels I'm being unacceptably uncivil. Sarah777 (talk) 16:30, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
This is where Sarah is wrong. Because others are uncivil to her does not give her the right to be uncivil back and not suffer the consequences. Responding in kind to incivility only makes it worse and makes you just as guilty as the other user. In those cases you need to step back and let uninvolved outsiders handle it, bite your tongue, and let our your frustrations by playing racquetball or something. This mentality only perpetuates the problem without doing anything to solve it. If others are "getting away with it" as you claim, you should report them if you haven't and if you did and nothing happened, you need to look at where and to whom you've reported it. Enough is enough on The Troubles, Sri Lanka, A-A, the Mid-East, and all the other ethnic problems areas on wiki. It's way past the point where people need to start behaving and build the encyclopedia rather than using wiki as a means to foment their real world ethnic wars.RlevseTalk 17:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
I hope you are not suggesting I'm fomenting real world ethnic wars? Unfortunately most of the incivility directed at me comes from the "Administrator Community" and I get zero protection from other Admins and when I have complained (basically I've given up on that ) all I get is rubbish about why the Admin was justified or bizarre claims that he/she "wasn't really uncivil". I thought WP:NPOV was the key ethic of Wiki; seems it isn't. Rather WP:CIVIL, defined vaguely and Administered randomly and arbitrarily is the only REAL crime the Wiki-police see. Sarah777 (talk) 19:05, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
The fomenting problem was a general comment about problems I see in the ethnic wars on wiki. For you Sarah, your major problems, as others have often pointed out, is your combative, defensive attitude and incivility. NPOV is a key pillar but what I often see in the ehtnic wars on wiki is that one side always sees their own view as NPOV and the other as POV, ie, as the "misinformation" I talked about before. RlevseTalk 19:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
What is A-A? And I'd dispute your characterisation of the Middle East as an "ethnic problem" when clearly it is an issue of Western Imperialism, colonisation, land-grabbing and the reaction to that. But the "Wiki majority" cannot see or won't accept that their "mainstream" (in the parochial Anglosphere) views are in fact those of a minority ethnic faction, every bit as much as the Tamils or the Serbs. It is that failure to understand which is the real problem on Wiki; not the non-acceptance of totally arbitrary "civility" rules. That and the avoidance of my comments about the complete biased manner in which the civility rules are enforced (or not enforced). Sarah777 (talk) 19:19, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
For A-A, see Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan_2, an area of wiki that I'd rate as the most problematic of all. The Mid East is ethnic, religious, Western influences, etc and so on. It's not just anyone one of those. Its problem go back thousands of years. Quality articles emerge with all sides work together, not when one side pushes out the other. Users do have differing standards of civility and I often disagree with others about what is and isn't civil, as do others with me; just as people have different views about other things. This does not mean we can't work together to build an encyclopedia. Not knowing the specifics of the civility cases you're talking about, I can't say much more at this point on that. Hi Alison,

Recently, some one impostered you on the unixpod test wiki @ testwiki.unixpod.com. The issue was figured out after CU was abused! Therefore, if you want to, can you re-create an account, with a link to this talk page or something saying that it's the real you, or remove the link from your matrix?

Thanks,

Hmm, re-checking your matrix -- I found that I looked for the /Test Wikipedia/ - the test.wikipedia.org one! I miss read it :S The Helpful One Review 18:56, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I'm pretty annoyed right now, especially when I had to go to ED to figure out what happened over there. In future, if you find someone on a wiki claiming to be me, and especially requesting checkuser rights, please check with me first. You must at least do the minimum to authenticate that editor. I'm not saying you were involved or anything, but whoever was .... yeesh. That was monumentally stupid and was one of the reasons I left all the small test wikis behind, except Xyrael. I would like to verify that, yes, I am Encyclopedist...as you can see my contributions have been productive on this account and I have absolutely no intention to vandalize.

As a further note, I believe clinical depression is a serious problem and one I would not dare make fun of, seeing as how I wonder if I have it at times too (yes I read your note about it and comment that "WikiStalkers like Encyclopedist love to make fun of...")

You are a brave, wonderful woman and I only wish you the best in your future...keep going to check yourself up, I personally support you...

Thanks for all of your contributions and work here...I am on my way to Georgetown U. in a few weeks so I don't have time to edit, let alone vandalize. I acted as "CIyde" mostly as a joke...after reading about your personally plight I feel really bad about that now.

I hope this account isn't blocked or banned, but these are the rules so I can see how this would happen. Thank you for bringing light to the fact that many have assumed my name in the attempt to vandalize while disparaging me... In just two years I have seen how stupid that really was.

Keep up the fight, and Go Hoyas!Ulises Heureaux (talk) 02:02, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

E-mail request

Alison, it has been suggested to me that you are quite an even-handed and fair-minded admin, and certainly I seem to remember having seen evidence of this. I wonder therefore, if you'd mind giving me some help with a particular matter, through private correspondence. Mind if I e-mail you? Cheers --Setanta747 (talk) 11:22, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Alison. E-mail sent. The link above suggested you had your e-mail facility turned off, but the link on the left column seemed to work. Cheers. --Setanta747 (talk) 22:08, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

User caught in a hard-rangeblock made by you

Muke (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has been caught in a rangeblock made by you. He's been around for a while, and a cursory glance at his contribs revealed nothing alarming, so normally I would just grant IP block exemption. However, since you blocked his IP range with {{checkuserblock}}, I decided it would be best to appeal to you. Here is a link to the unblock request: User_talk:Muke#Unblock_req.

Thanks for your time,

J.delanoygabsadds 14:59, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. Thanks for letting me know. Yep, go ahead and give them exemption, I say. They check out fine and are sysop on other projects. Could you just leave a note on Wikipedia talk:IP block exemption and point out that it's been okayed by checkuser? Thanks! - Alison 15:12, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Oversight

Did you oversight any edits here? Because I can still a lot of personal info.

Are you allowed to oversight stuff as a test? If so, can you try oversighting this so I can see if it works? J.delanoygabsadds 07:05, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not allowed, sorry :( I oversighted a bunch of stuff from there already, but she put it right back up again. All well and good, etc, but that's not just her stuff, y'know. And it's seriously personal info. Hold on - I'll zap it again, so - Alison 07:09, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, now I'm confused. The deletion log shows one entry, and yet if I understand you correctly she re-added her PI after you deleted the page? Or did you oversight and then delete it? Hey, it's past midnight here :) What happened was, you reported the page to Oversight, having deleted it. I oversighted the entire page, apart from the first edit (which was marginally okay). Then she came along again and added it again. And I deleted the page again. Then you noticed the edits. Then I oversighted them again. And here we are :) - Alison 07:31, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Rollback request

Hi, I see you have expressed a willingness to grant rollback rights to users. I would like to use the rollback feature on my account. I use twinkle but sometimes it would be handy to use the rollback feature to revert cases of vandalism that come to my attention when I am using internet explorer (which doesn't support twinkle). Best regards, Jdrewitt (talk) 11:28, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Ooooh, may I also have rollback? Sticky Parkin 03:22, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Of course! Both of you have clean records and are not edit warriors nor new editors. Have fun with rollback :) - Alison 05:23, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Many thanks :) Jdrewitt (talk) 09:30, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Yay thanks, I wasn't sure about having it at first as I didn't think I'd want to do things more quickly/get things more wrong, but on the French wiki all I'm good for is reverting vandalism (I can just about tell if someone's put an edit insulting their random mate in an article) so now I've got a taste for it and want to do it faster.:) Sticky Parkin 11:47, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Block on 74.62.155.33 ?

Hi - forgive me if I don't know the whole story/procedure behind this, but I was cleaning up some vandalism by this particular user, went to put a note on their talk page, and saw that the user was marked as being blocked. Is this block expired, or is there some other way they could have gotten around this, or...? Sounds like you already lead a busy enough wikilife, but I figured it was at least worth mentioning to you. Regards, NapoliRoma (talk) 03:44, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. It had been blocked for six months for being an open proxy and the block had just expired a few days ago. It's still an open proxy (click here) so I've gone ahead and reblocked it for another year.[28] If I've blocked a proxy, this usually means it's been used by an account abusively and this may not always be apparent from the anon edits. Checkuser can determine the accounts behind it - Alison 05:21, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Probable sock of User:Dereks1x

Recently you blocked User:Presumptive as a sock of Dereks1x. I stumbled across Joey Didier, a copy and paste job from Joseph Didier/Murder of Joseph Didier from Presumptive's user page history. Aside from a few arguments about the title of the article on 9/11, the article on Didier's murder was all that Presumptive seemed to care about on Wikipedia. As the checkuser that blocked Presumptive, I thought I'd bring this to your attention, as I find it improbable that a new user would have the wiki-savvy to locate the deleted text and find a new page location for an article that has been deleted three or four times. AniMate 00:05, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I found and blocked a few others, as well as blocked a long-term IP.   Confirmed as being Dereks1x - Alison 03:47, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your block of User:Enlip, on October 5. Do you have magical checkuser powers that allow you to recognize socks of Koov, or was it on straight behavior? Rlevse verdict

Ali, I have spent a while mulling over this, took a Wiki-break, etc. But I am absolutely outraged and upset by the finding by the Admin "Rlevse". His/her "verdict" in the latest "troubles" dispute mentions only the two Irish editors, Domer and myself. (And I wasn't even involved in the edit war, something admitted during the course of the proceedings). I want to take this matter further as the inability of the Anglo-American Admins to understand that WP:POV does not = "majority Anglo-American POV" is unacceptable. I beleive that Admins, however 'expierenced' who cannot demonstrate a grasp of the concept of WP:NPOV should not be in positions of authority. My question: where and how do I raise this issue? Bhí mé ar tí é seo a leannas a fhoilsiú i mBéarla, ach ansin chonaic mé do phróifíl ar Betawiki! Cé is moite go bhfuil suim ar leith agam i staid reatha na Gaeilge/Gáidhlig/Gaelg, chan fhuilimse fhéin in inmhe ach Gaeilge a labhairt acu siúd, mar sin bheadh mé mí-úsáideach amach is amach más ar chúrsaí Ghaeilge na hAlban a bhí tú ag iarraidh orm díriú. Tá mé ag obair "go díograiseach" ar ailt do Wikimapia le tamall anuas, agus d'aistrigh mé an leagan Gaeilge de. Char éirigh liom aistritheoir Gáidhlig a aimsiú don tsaothar ámh. Má tá aithne agatsa ar dhuine ar bith a bhfuil líofacht na Gáidhlig acu, arbh fhéidir leatsa dhul i dteagmháil leofasan chun iarraidh orthu é a aistriú má tá an t-am le caitheamh acu ar thionscadal dá leithead. Go dtí seo níor léirigh duine ar bith domhsa go raibh spéis acu ar an drochuair. Míle buíochas leat mar sin fhéin. Bail ó Alah ort!! If you have time, anyway you could check user User:Sjakoj for Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Bambifan101. Too much drama, eh? I understand perfectly, and I respect your willingness to make this decision.

I wish you well whereever you end up.

Cheers! J.delanoygabsadds 22:41, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

The real deal

I've been tempted to take one myself—work has been giving me the perfect excuse. I can't say I've gone through an iota of what you've had to put up with around here (:) but it still gets tiresome, and I haven't even had my third Wiki-anniversary yet! Anyway, I hope you have a good time in RL ;) *hugs* Fvasconcellos (t·c) 01:06, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Nooo!

[30] !! *cry* ArielGold 01:24, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

It's ok, Ariel, if we think good thoughts, click our ruby red slippers together and say "There's no Checkuser like Allie" enough, I hear Allie will come back again someday :) SirFozzie (talk) 01:27, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Update from Allie:

Hey folks, I just talked to Alison off of Wikipedia, and she asked me to pass the following statement to you.

Thank you all for your support. I really appreciate all of the kind thoughts everyone has sent - I couldn't have asked for better friends. I may or may not come back, but if I do, it will be because of my friends. Bai now! :)

She's one of a kind, ain't she? SirFozzie (talk) 05:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

She certainly is - best wishes Allie.Thunderer (talk) 10:10, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I too, hope everything's all right where you are. You know where I am if you need me. :) Best wishes. Acalamari 15:56, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm confident that you'll return Alison. 'Til we meet again. GoodDay (talk) 21:15, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Are there any adults left now or is it just us kidz? Enjoy the bigger picture and thanks for your work here Lucretius (talk) 21:52, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
You can log out any time you like/But you can never leave. bibliomaniac15 18:14, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Remember you can come back and do less... or more of less... maybe that's more of fewer things... or less of all that other stuff and more of the stuff you want to do? Hey, you could be that sensitive hand at WP:RFCN to opine whether, say, User:TheWrothOfGad is too controversial a name? Breaks are a good time to pick out of the air what it is you really want/like to do. Much luck (and good weather!) Shenme (talk) 03:07, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I join with everyone else in wishing you a good break for as long as you wish to take one, but also in hoping that you will return to us when you are ready. Very few of us can fully empathize with the extreme stresses you have been subjected to as a result of your editing and administrator work, but you know that you have the best wishes of many of us, and we look forward hopefully to the prospect of working with you again. With every good wish, Newyorkbrad (talk) 20:34, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
