Diacritics edit

Alensha, thanks for your note. Yes, we know about the diacritics problem. By now, every Wikipedia except the English-language one should now use Unicode, which supports almost all known characters in most known scripts. However, the English-language Wikipedia, because it was the first to be set up, and the largest, will be the last to be converted to Unicode; at the moment, it only supports ISO 8859-1 characters in article titles, and only supports non-8859-1 characters by using HTML entities in article Wikitext. However, this is all planned to be sorted soon, when the English Wikipedia will finally be converted to Unicode. This is why the "wrongtitle" template is so useful: by flagging articles now, we will greatly ease the task of finding and converting them when the Unicode recoding occurs.-- The Anome 13:59, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Hungarian counties: disambiguation edit

Hi! You split the Békés article into one about the town (Békés and one about the county (Békés county). Since there are far more references on wikipedia to the county than to the town, I propose to move the county to Békés and the town to Békés (town). I tried to start a discussion (also about other counties) on Talk:Counties of Hungary, please give me your opinion. Markussep 10:36, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Category tags edit

I've just reverted an edit of yours (on List of English irregular verbs). The category namespace has no use for pipe characters (which you may have already noticed). The page shows the same if you write [[Category:Lists]] or [[Category:Lists|Whatever you write]]. The pipe character (|) only works for linked words or phrases in the body of the page. --Pablo D. Flores 01:40, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I didn't know about the listing on the Category page itself!. Thanks for letting me know. Anyway, on the issue of lists, I believe categories are supposed to replace them in due time, since lists are more difficult to maintain. That is, the only lists should be those which provide additional information (besides just bare links).
And you're a conlanger, too! --Pablo D. Flores 13:51, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

At last: 'ő' and 'ű' can be used in titles! edit

Hi, I saw you inserted András Hegedus to the article about Viktor Orbán. I am happy to inform you that ű and ő can now be safely used in article titles as well as in links to articles, so you can link to András Hegedűs without any piping or substitute characters. I tried to look for all the Hungarian place names and personal names which are concerned and rename/move them all to their new names, but there might have remained some which I didn't find. Sarkozy edit

Yes, please, record the name of Nicolas Sarkozy's father in Hungarian and add the audio file to the Nicolas Sarkozy article (begining of Origins section). About the family name of his father, I have found it written "Nagy-Bócsay Sárközy", but I also found the spelling "nagybócsai Sárközy" with a lower-case n. Do you know if the lower-case n means something? Also, since you are writing articles about Hungary, and since you live in Hungary, I thought maybe you could try to find some information about Alattyán, the village from where the Sarkozy family come from. Maybe you can find information about the Sarkozy family that used to live there. Thanks. Hardouin 29 June 2005 10:42 (UTC)

I added the pronunciation. The name Nagybócsai actually should be written with lowercase since it's not the surname, but kind of an adjective, but in an English text it would seem odd. However, I've seen it only as "Nagybócsai", not as "Nagy-Bócsay" (the "y" ending is definitely incorrect, the hyphenated version is simply less common.)

I found only a small amount of info on the village and the Sárközy family is not mentioned anywhere in connection with the village. They aren't even mentioned on the village's official site. :( Alensha 2 July 2005 13:12 (UTC)

About the village, I copied the info from the French Wikipedia. On the French Wikipedia they say that the Sarkozy family comes from a village called Alatayan located 100 km. from Budapest. There's no village called Alatayan in Hungary (according to my research), so the only place I found that could match this name was Alattyán, which is indeed about 100 km. from Budapest. Maybe you could try to contact the mayor in Alattyán, and ask the mayor or his/her advisors if they know of a Sarkozy family. If the Sarkozy really had a castle in Alattyán before the war, people there must still remember. We are becoming journalists now... LOL. But hey!, Nicolas Sarkozy may well become the president of France in 2007, so it's important to know his origins.
About the audio recording, thanks for doing it. However, did you notice there is a stong puff of air in the recording, which makes it hard to hear? Maybe you spoke too close from the microphone. If you have time maybe you could try to do another recording this time speaking further away from the microphone to avoid the puff of air. Thanks for all of us who unfortunately do not speak Hungarian! Kösz! Hardouin 5 July 2005 00:03 (UTC)

I uploaded a new sound file, hopefully a better one. My microphone is not really good. I wrote to the e-mail address found on the website of that village, bt no one responded :( Alensha 13:53, 16 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Horthy edit

Hi, Alensha! Sorry for bothering you, but you wrote in connection with the article about Horthy Miklós that the editors are close to an agreement. Well, I would like to inform you about that I've nearly started a revert war, since valami észlény put it into the Category:Fascists. This is quite not true in my opinion. And it's very interesting that Szálasi is not in that Category. Hi Alensha, I saw you split the Csongrád (county) article. Are you planning to do that for all Kingdom of Hungary counties that still exist? Hey, Alensha, what's up? I saw your comment on the talk page of the unreleased Mariah Carey song page and made some edits. Is it better now? Also Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious" [5] is up for deletion. Your changes on templates for Europe, Germany etc. edit

I do not get your changes. The text in the templates is already centred on all computers and systems I am working on, even without the 'style' addition you made. I think there is something wrong with your browser settings. Anyway, it's better style to not use extra style attributes, don't you agree?

Templates again... edit

Well, as I said. On all computers (and I travel a lot) and on all platforms I used (Windows XP and Linux) the text was always centered prior to the changes you made. So, I have no idea why you didn't see it centered (btw., do you allow CSS style sheets in your IE settings? Maybe your browser doesn't recognise the wiki styles referred to in the beginning of the table). To be compatible with platforms like yours, I suggest we leave the templates now as they are. Please, let me know what your exact configuration is (meaning XP service pack, IE version asf.) so I can check that for the future. Cheers.

Greeks in Hungary edit

Thank you for explaining me about Greeks in Miskolc and Hungary. Maybe this should be a new article for wikipedia; Greeks in Hungary. So as you say there were free waves of Greek immigration to Hungary. One during Ottoman times and one after the Civil war. Descedants of first wave Greeks do they exist as Greeks today or they are totally assimilated. The Greek church in Miskolc was it used by anyone before the "second wave Greeks arrived"? Where there any Greek orthodox belivers back then and any church organization? How many Greeks stayed in Hungary after democratic changes in Greece? What is situation of Greek minority today? Do their children and grandchildren speak Greek? Are there Greek institutions in that village? Schools, churches....? Could do write article about that village? I hope I didnt asked you to many questions. Thanx. Luka Jačov 10:29, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image:Samanthamumba2.jpg has been listed for deletion edit

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Samanthamumba2.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.
I think it is the way the image is being used. Album covers should only be used in articles that illustrate the album or single in question. The use of the album cover (or the cropped derivative) in the article on the artist is questionable fair use and the use of the image in an article on Irish people, I would say, is definitely not fair use (Needs to be removed). A head shot (promophoto) would be the correct choice of image for the article on the artist. -Nv8200p (talk) 22:08, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Grammatical differentiation of "Velence" edit

Dear Alensha, see the answer under Hungarian grammar#Differentiating place names with suffix groups; the last example in the bulleted list. – Anyway, maybe the wording of the article Velence could be refined. Adam78 23:23, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for fixing the text. – Maybe it's not so clear-cut, indeed, but that's what theory says and it sounds quite plausible to me. Did you mean in your answer that you're not really used to speak about the Hungarian town, or that you regularly refer to that town as Velencében, just like the Italian city? Maybe a more comprehensive survey should be made about the question. :-))) Adam78 23:38, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Collaboration edit

Anne Boleyn edit

I think the anonymous deletion relating to Thomas More improved the article. How can you refer to him as a "bitter enemy of religious freedom", when his conduct is an outstanding example of one man sticking by his conscience in defiance of political pressure? It's all debatable, of course, but the description as it stands in the article is unacceptable. And then to refer to Anne as "victim" is double POV. Miscarriage is not my thing, but I prefer "baby" to the ghastly "fetus". I take no issue with the rest, but checking whether quotes should or should not be in the article is not my responsibility - I was merely fixing awkward syntax. Bring back Anonymous, I say, and less trashing of other historical figures to vindicate your own heroine. Accurate accounts of people's lives are far more interesting than the sectarian cartoon versions.--shtove 18:57, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

East European Jews edit

Hello. I have reverted the separations back just to have them separated again. There is no benefit to making half a dozen smaller lists for this list, as the list is not nearly big enough to call for such measures. I noticed on the talk page that you and Dahn assumed that no one would argue with the move. I am sorry, but I do not support it. It is much easier to just keep the list as it originally was, especially considering it has counterparts List of West European Jews etc. To sum up, overlisting is bad.

If your disagreement with the list is the disparity between East and Central, realize that the East designation is most likely on Soviet lines, and so the best (and easiest) move to make would be to merge the Hungarians list with the East Europeans list. Please consider this. Thanks. Antidote 00:08, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Again, sorry for not supporting the move, but to be quite honest, the list as it was before was very helpful and easy for listing. This breakdown, I believe, will not be as comfortable. Again, sorry. Antidote 00:13, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

To your ideas on my user page: unfortunately, I don't feel like searching in encyclopedias etc. to improve articles about Budapest or other topics you mentioned. :-( Instead, I hope I'll take the time to write and/or improve articles in topics I'm more inclined to deal with (like Hungarian grammar).

On the other hand, you wrote at the talk page of the above article that you were going to separate it into shorter articles and were waiting for the Hungarian version to be completed. Well, the Hungarian one seems to be ready and if you were to take up the English-language article again, it would be really great because now it can't even be downloaded properly due to its enormous size (241 kilobytes).

PS. You wrote: "Also, is it possible to translate some of the city part names (or will the names be explained in their respective articles?)" – I'm thinking about the proper translation of Zugló (District XIV). Do you think corner horse, nook horse, cranny horse or recess horse would fit best? ;-)

Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town (Mariah Carey) edit

Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town (Mariah Carey single) was trimmed and merged to Santa Claus Is Coming to Town for the reason that, in the majority of cases, there doesn't need to be separate articles for each and every different version of a song that comes out, especially a version that didn't chart anywhere and is non-notable save for the fact that it was recorded by a well-known musician. See Talk:I'll Be There, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music/Notability and Music Guidelines/Songs. It is generally considered impolite and unproductive to recreate the article at another location without any discussion, as it is tantamount to reverting without discussion. It's also a violation of the GFDL to copy and paste content from one article to another without mentioning where it came from in the edit summary. I have turned Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town (Mariah Carey) into a redirect, and would advise that you begin a discussion at Talk:Santa Claus Is Coming to Town if you honestly believe that Carey's version of the song deserves its own article. I have added the MC infobox to the main article.. mainly to ease the singles chronology. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 19:07, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

U-boxok edit

Slovak Coat of Arms dispute edit

Szervusz, Alensha!

I noticed that you have edited the Coat of arms of Hungary page, and I respect it for it's neutral point of view. There is nothing jingoist about it.

I am in a dispute over the Coat of arms of Slovakia article with a user called Juro. I suggested on the talk page of the article that one might look at the Hungarian coat of arms page for a better idea of NPOV. Juro has obviously taken this very personally, and has, in his response to my edits, blasted the Hungarian article as a "huge infantile mess", which is not true at all. If you could look at the various verisons of the Coat of arms of Slovakia page and see if you can see a bias, I would be most thankful. InFairness 07:34, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sáránd edit

I noticed you made the only other edit on Sáránd. Thanks. Where did I get the info? It was my best guestimate from what I though it would be when I was there. Actually, considering the fact that I was "eyeballing" it, I was mostly pretty close. The area was grossly overestimated because I made a math error when calculating it. Pesterzsébet edit

Szervusz Alensha! I commend you on your fabulous work on your hometown article. Some articles that I find lacking are the districts of Europe, such as Pesterzsébet. Perhaps you could work on those one day. Köszönöm szépen! Viszontlátásra! somody 13:59, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Place names edit

well that makes it easy then, copy & paste into a text editor and run a regex search/replace on them. try /\[\[(.*) \(Hungary\)|/\[\[\1, Hungary|/g

p.s. would you mind checking over the hungarian translation of my user page? — Nicholas (reply) @ 21:00, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes edit

Hey, thanks for putting that userbox into my archive. If you know of any orphan political party userboxes out there looking for a home, let me know. Cheers, JDoorjam Talk 00:11, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey Alensha, I do have a religious userbox page, but it's realllly sparsely populated. A few bot-assisted editors have popped by and filled in political party userboxes; hopefully over time the same will happen with my religious boxes as well. Sorry I couldn't be more help, JDoorjam Talk 04:37, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request for edit summary edit

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 43% for major edits and 67% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 16:34, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

never would have suspected that Big BOTher is watching me :D Okay, I will use them. Alensha 17:02, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maps edit

Sure, of course you can use them. That's what I made them for :) BTW, all are released under a slightly modified GFDL license, so you could also modify them if you see the need to. Halibutt 20:15, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hunlit edit

Szia!

I made the Tausch article, but where is here? (cf.Tosh (Hasidic dynasty)). --Sheynhertzגעשׁ״ך 09:12, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can you expand the Nyirtass article?

I will, as soon as I have some time. The Nyírtass article is a substub in HuWiki too, but I'll try to find some info. – Alensha  12:44, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

települések kategorizálása edit

Szia!

Szerintem a Category:Cities, towns and villages in Hungary -ben levő településeket ki kéne szedni onnan és csak a megfelelő megye kategóriába beletenni, pl Category:Cities, towns and villages in Fejér county -ba, mert most benne vannak mindkettőben.

Help! Awful articles... edit

I wonder if you could help put the word out. There are two dreadfully inaccurate and POV articles on the Origins of the Romanians out: [Concept of the origin of Romanians theories] and [The Roessler Theory]. I did a bit of research and the two primary authors seem to be itinerant propagandists with little respect for either fairness or Wikipedian principles (especially NPOV) in general. One has been suspended at least 8 times with his current username for similar problems (user:Greier). I placed dispute tags on the articles, but I fear they will be quickly removed. Someone should keep an eye on these, as they are very biased, and to allow them to stand undisputed will be a tacit acceptance of the articles' claims. InFairness 09:28, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portals edit

Wikiprojects are műhelys. :) Like the ones that I maintain now (Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine Wikipedia:WikiProject Medical genetics). We rate articles, create featured works.

Currentyear/month: for example Portal:Medicine has a selected article box. In your system, you should change the template every week. Now, I make 3 or four in advance like Portal:Medicine/Selected article/26, 2006. So when it will be the 16th week, it will automaticly change to this article. I don't have to be there week by week. I do the same with selexted pictures.

Sorry for not helping, but I'm actually stucked here too. So many works to finish. :) NCurse work 23:19, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
