Hi, A Stop at Willoughby. Because you participated in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Steve Titus (2nd nomination), you may be interested in Talk:Steve Titus#Requested move. Cunard (talk) 18:47, 5 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I went to review this article, one of the oldest on GAN. Are you still working on it? I notice someone else has recently given a somewhat tongue in cheek review, I'm not sure how helpful it was. Are you happy if I take it over? --Ktlynch (talk) 16:53, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I am still working on it; I was disappointed by the review by CheeseDeluxe (talk · contribs), which strikes me as tongue-in-cheek or at least rather unhelpful. I would very much appreciate it if you'd take it over. Thanks, A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 19:17, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've started going through it section by section, adding comments to the review page as I go. I want to give it a detailed look over, and it seems like a nice slow moving article, so I've not finished yet. Let me know if there's anything you don't understand. --Ktlynch (talk) 22:45, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Cool, thanks very much for volunteering to review the article. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 17:06, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Are you still interested in actively working on the article? It's been on hold for a while, but I can't leave it like that forever. I'm not pointing the finger at you, but you appear to have been the main contributor (and a good one at that). If you're willing to go at it again, I can lend a hand. Otherwise, I'll unfortunately have to fail it. Best, --Ktlynch (talk) 23:51, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, is this how you reply? I don't know this site. You requested further proof: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/entertainment/festivals/mythology-of-two-cultures/story-e6freepu-1111117488034 the image accompanied many such articles in the Australian media, free of charge. Thanks for your help. (129.96.234.94 (talk)) —Preceding undated comment added 04:55, 9 March 2010 (UTC).Reply

Yes, you figured out how to reply just fine. You can add your next comment right below this.
I notice that the image was apparently published in Adelaide Now without a copyright notice; however, it says that the photo's source was The Advertiser. The article was originally published in The Advertiser. Are you sure The Advertiser released the photo into the public domain? It looks like maybe the photo was distributed via a newswire service (like an Associated Press or Reuters photo) along with the article, so it might not be public domain after all. Your thoughts? A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 02:25, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks again for your advice. The shot was released to The Advertiser first (main newspaper in Adelaide) and then went viral. It appeared in SA Life, Sunday Mail, TAASLA Review, BBC radio website and others. I worked backstage, as I said. The actual photograph was taken by a Japanese photographer who took many similar shots during the production's run in Okinawa and gave permission for the crew to use them. They were released to the Australian media with the photographer's encouragement when the production moved to South Australia, and appeared all over the place. That particular shot became a signature image, though the earliest version of the wikipage held a whole bunch of photographs, which have been gradually removed by admins citing copyright. It's a shame the wikipage has become so sparse because it was quite a unique event visually and it's all well-documented in reviews and articles. Tt's all public domain. (129.96.234.232 (talk) 04:44, 11 March 2010 (UTC))Reply

Interesting. Thanks for the detailed response; I'll bring the image back to DRV, because this information should be considered by a broader audience. Thanks for your patience. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 17:06, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks. I don't know what DRV is, but you've been super-helpful. (129.96.234.232 (talk) 08:26, 18 March 2010 (UTC))Reply

Hi, I found the right place, I hope? The information above is correct. The Japanese production team are happy to have the material on wikipedia, provided that the photographer is credited. We can get an e-mail from Kijimuna Festival office to verify this, but not sure where to post it? What sort've proof is needed here? (123.2.53.91 (talk) 12:51, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, I didn't catch this post earlier. If the photographer wishes to allow Wikipedia to use the image, please forward the e-mail from the Kijimuna Festival office to permissions@wikimedia.org with an explanation. (Please do note, however, that the photographer would be credited on the file page but not in the caption in the article, (see WP:IUP#Content and WP:CAP#Credits). Hopefully everything will check out fine and the image will be back in the article soon. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 00:07, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

You should be an admin! (123.2.53.91 (talk) 03:43, 22 March 2010 (UTC))Reply

Thanks, I'm glad I was able to help. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 00:07, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

We asked the Australian writer to contact them, as it takes some time to translate at their office. An e-mail has now been sent, with a link to this discussion. Thanks! (129.96.234.212 (talk) 06:43, 7 April 2010 (UTC))Reply

Off Da Hook (album)

edit

Why you delete my work? I spent my time to collect very hard to find data and try to make wikipedia better and you delete it. Why you doing this. If you don't know what's up?...Don't touch it!!!

article: Off Da Hook (album) —Preceding unsigned comment added by John Liotta (talkcontribs) 12:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, John. First of all, you should know that I didn't actually delete your article and can't do anything about it now. I only recommended it for deletion; Alexf is the administrator who actually deleted it.
Second, I'd like to answer your question about why the article was deleted. While it's unfortunate that your hard work was deleted, you have to understand that Wikipedia is not an encyclopedia about everything. We cover many more topics than traditional encyclopedias, but we do limit ourselves to have articles only on things that are notable. Click here to read about what that means on Wikipedia.
The problem with your article, Off Da Hook (album), was that it gave no indication of why its subject was notable. Because it was a musical recording by an artist without an article, it was eligible for speedy deletion (see here).
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 02:25, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

No problem. I see you discovered Twinkle shortly thereafter, so I'm sure you'll format AfDs fine from now on. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 01:36, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I did use Twinkle for the first time too, I don't know why it did not work. Weird. -RobertMel (talk) 01:41, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Really? That is weird...as you might have noticed, Twinkle didn't show up in your edit summary (see?). Then again, just look at the size of WP:TWBUGS; such problems aren't unusual. This is why I personally don't think Twinkle is worth the trouble. It saves you time until it wastes your time, you know? A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 01:48, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Will Smith's name is WILLARD not William. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.52.142 (talk) 04:14, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, but look at the top of the disambiguation page for William Smith. It says, "William, Willie, Will, or Bill Smith may refer to..." (emphasis mine). So yes, while his first name is Willard, he goes by "Will" so it seems useful to keep his name on the disambiguation page. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 04:18, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

None of those options are WILLARD. Willie Will and Bill are all versions of William. WILLARD is not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.52.142 (talk) 04:21, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's true. However, Will can be a version of both William and Willard. Because many readers may not be aware of the fact that Smith's full name is Willard, some may try to find him through William Smith. That's the purpose of a disambiguation page – to aid readers with navigation. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 04:26, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some people might search for a major star using the wrong name? They wouldn't just search "Will Smith"? That makes no sense —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.52.142 (talk) 04:27, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ours is not to reason why. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 04:30, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

So Wikipedia makes no sense but it isn't anyones job to ask why? That is stupid —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.52.142 (talk) 04:37, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removed speedy deletion tag: User:Bank108/Books/bank

edit

Hi A Stop at Willoughby! Firstly, thanks for helping out in CSD areas. I just wanted to inform you that I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on User:Bank108/Books/bank- because: CSD G2 does not apply to user pages. Try MfD instead. If you have any questions or other message, please contact me. Thanks Kingpin13 (talk) 08:27, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

The same for User:Bluedog1100/Books/ian and the good times, while these are attempts at books, so they might be a bit different, I feel we should let the users test in user space (even testing WP:BOOKS). - Kingpin13 (talk) 08:32, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
You're correct; my mistake. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 23:53, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Admin?

edit

G'day there - I just noticed a way up your talk page that a couple of months ago User:Hobit had suggested you run for adminship but that doesn't seem to have materialised. I can only but re-inforce his sentiments; having seen some of your article work and DRV contributions, I can't think of a more qualified potential candidate. I'm probably not a suitable nominator (but I can only but encourage you to go for it, especially as the community seems to be crying out for a good candidate right now. --Mkativerata (talk) 00:26, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

NJ Legislative templates

edit

Thanks for your work on the NJ Leg templates. One question: I'm not sure where to find the "WT:NJ consensus" to which you refer in your edit summaries, but surely we're missing the word "the" in these templates now? In other words, they should start: "The Nth legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature..." —Offenbach (talk) 21:56, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and also, the first sentences are all now sentence fragments. So how about "The Nth legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented..." rather than "...which is represented..." Sorry if this is already covered by WT:NJ somewhere. —Offenbach (talk) 22:01, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Offenbach. These changes are all the result of the consensus reached in this discussion, which has been archived. I've spent quite some time trying to figure out the least messy way to go about implementing the changes, but I came to the conclusion that there has to be a brief period of time during which there are sentence fragments in the articles. However, I'm working to clean up all affected articles as quickly as possible. Thanks for asking me instead of mass-reverting. :) A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 01:28, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Just a note: I've requested WP:AWB, which surely will speed up the process. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 20:04, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Educationist stubs

edit

I recently closed the SFD for renaming the "pedagogue" stubs to "educationist". Part of the discussion was to resort the articles after the renaming, so that they are properly classified as educators or educationists or both. Since you were one of the two participants in the discussion, I wanted to let you know that I've moved the template and category, and made sure all the articles use the current template name, but I have not attempted to reclassify the articles based on whether they are actually educationists or not. I'm hoping that you will be able to take care of that. (I would have also asked User:Grutness, but it appears that he is taking a break.) Also, since I don't close many stub type discussions and you seem to participate there quite a bit, please let me know if you notice anything I might have done wrong or left undone. Thanks. --RL0919 (talk) 17:32, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for closing this long-overdue SfD; I'll be sure to take a look at the articles in the stubcat and classify them as appropriate. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 23:53, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Planning an RFC for deleting secret pages

edit

Hi, A Stop at Willoughby. I strongly agree with your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Tezero/Secret Page and hope that you can participate in the discussion at User talk:MZMcBride#Secret pages at WP:MFD. I plan to create an RFC to delete all secret pages and hope you can help draft one. Thanks, Cunard (talk) 06:23, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I would be glad to help draft a RfC on the subject. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 17:25, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
The discussion has moved to Wikipedia talk:Miscellany for deletion#Hidden/Secret Pages. Best, Cunard (talk) 06:02, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
And the discussion has moved to User talk:Cunard#Deletion of others' secret page. I'm thinking about starting a mass MfD to get rid of the secret pages of non-productive contributors, and after that, MfD'ing one by one the secret pages of the other users. I hope that doing this will be more fruitful than the result of Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Secret pages. What do you think? Cunard (talk) 06:50, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
