Template talk:Infobox architect

design edit

I have added 'significant design' because many architects also design other objects, such as "industrial design", funiture, glassware, clocks and even household objects.--TTKK 22:26, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Alma Matter edit

Shouldn't it be "alma mater"? --Furukama (talk) 08:27, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes. Mild Bill Hiccup (talk) 05:51, 29 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Significant Buildings edit

Significant Buildings seems to display by default, even when left empty. Can this default action be removed? I would like to add this InfoBox to Golf Course Architects instead of creating a brand new InfoBox. See: Rees Jones. Gamweb (talk) 17:52, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Shorter field names edit

The last four fields of the infobox (significant buildings, significant projects, significant design, awards and prizes) are a bit too long and get usually wraped into two lines, messing up the layout. I suggest removing the "significant" (since this is self-explanatory for an infobox); Eventually it could be reintroduced in the title bar (i.e. "Significant work"). I also think that Awards should suffice (prizes, medals and other honors are included); Elekhh (talk) 07:02, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Birth and Death fields edit

The format used for Birth Date and Place and Death Date and Place in Template:Infobox artist and Template:Infobox writer seems more space efficient and legible. I suggest replacing these in Infobox Architect in a similar way. Elekhh (talk) 06:33, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adding signature edit

Hi, Would it be possible to add the signature to the template like in the Spanish wiki? http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantilla:Ficha_de_arquitecto

w:es:Antoni Gaudi vs. Antoni Gaudi

Thanks --Alberto Fernandez Fernandez (talk) 08:53, 16 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

What about partnerships and firms? edit

What should be done regarding architectural partnerships / firms? Use this infobox, a separate infobox for each partner, or none at all? Canadian2006 (talk) 00:20, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is already Template:Infobox architectural practice. --Elekhh (talk) 01:24, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
I hadn't seen this before. Many thanks -- just what I was looking for. Canadian2006 (talk) 02:19, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Family members fields edit

There is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Architecture/Archive 9#Family members in Infobox architect about the proposal to add fields for family members. --ELEKHHT 23:39, 29 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Having read the lively discussion on WikiProject Architecture (now archived), I want to register Support for User:Pigsonthewing's inclusion of the parameters for parents, children, spouse, and partner. In many cases these constitute notable influences on the architect, and the many/all of the same parameters are used in Infobox Artist, Infobox engineer, and Infobox officeholder. For architects like Walter Gropius, Philip Johnson, and Gottfried Boem, who all married influential artits/architects in their own right, the partner/spouse parameters are particularly important. The infobox is also significantly shorter than infoboxes for allied fields. Nickknack00 (talk) 00:44, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
I disagree per the updated link above, but I made my point already. --ELEKHHT 23:02, 31 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

RfC on Template:Infobox person edit

This message is to notify you that there is an RfC ongoing on whether to add pronunciation info to {{Infobox person}}, a discussion which may also affect this template. Your comments on the matter are appreciated. The discussion can be found here. Thanks! 0x0077BE (talk · contrib) 17:14, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth edit

The doc now advises use of {{birth date}}, which requires a full date. However, as per WP:DOB the exact birth date should normally not be included in articles about living people unless it is widely published already, or has clearly been published with the approval of the person. Many editors seem to be automaically following this documetation and insertig full dates of birth where they should not. I have now included a warning about this in the doc. Other names edit

I would like to see the "other_names" parameter added to this Infobox. It is especially important for women architects, who often work under both a birth name and a married name at different stages of their career.Alafarge (talk) 18:08, 23 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Alafarge, added. Frietjes (talk) 17:09, 16 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Soumya-8974's suggestions edit

We need parameters "child/embed", "education", "influences", "influenced" etc. —Yours sincerely, Soumyabrata (contributionssubpages) 15:20, 24 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Resting place edit

Is there any reason we don't have a "resting place" parameter? Some of us like to visit the graves of famous architects. It's pretty standard on other people templates. - Kzirkel (talk) 14:25, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Honorific prefix edit

We need to have honorific_prefix and honorific_suffix appearing in the documentation. Confer Template:Infobox artist and Template:Infobox writer. --Omnipaedista (talk) 19:55, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Years_active edit

This wrapper doesn't have years_active (now used in Paolo Soleri) which seems quite reasonable. I also see requests above for resting_place, and the honorifics which all common in other bios. I don't see any reason to think they would be controversial to add here. Jonesey95 or Frietjes, would one of you add these. Thanks. MB 23:50, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have added years_active and resting_place. honorific_prefix and honorific_suffix were already supported. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:11, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Movement edit

This template does not have |movement=, or |style=. If an architect is particularly noted for a style of work, shouldn't that be significant for the infobox. MB 14:19, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Missing parameters (relations/relatives, module and embed) edit

The template doesn't allow you to embed other infoboxes within, or for it to be embedded in other infoboxes. Also, there is currently no way to reference non-spouse, children, parent relations. Suggest these get added to make this template more useful overall. --Engineerchange (talk) 01:31, 20 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

You can use |embedded= and embed {{infobox person}} to add those parameters to an architect infobox. Use |embed=yes on the person infobox. MB 02:29, 20 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Jonesey95, I took my own advice here and embedded IB person into IB architect at James Playfair and the result is a little clunky with the ordering of the data. It would be better to just add |relatives= here. The obove comment says partner/children/parents are missing but they are there, we only need relatives added. MB 04:01, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
  Done. Feel free to copy over some documentation from {{Infobox person}}. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:01, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
