editThis page contains nothing about the specific beliefs of the Zionites, . . . its more a biography of the person who founded the organization and should be labeled as such, . . it is not about Zionites — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.99.119.78 (talk) 16:45, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
Article title
edit@Shhhnotsoloud: - I see you shuffled around and moved this to the base name. Is this REALLY the primary topic for the term "Zionites"? It's an obscure, lightly edited, and didn't have very many pageviews either. I'm inclined to agree with my own move in 2006 that this should title should redirect to Zion (disambiguation) instead, where many more possibilities exist. SnowFire (talk) 20:03, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @SnowFire: I've just finished cleaning up Zion (disambiguation). Zionites is the only article with that title. The term has limited use in Enwiki, and more of those mentions than others are referring to the German sect. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 21:08, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Shhhnotsoloud: Thanks for the reply. Your search provides evidence for my point - this is an incredibly minor and tiny topic that has almost no coverage within the wiki, nor importance. Yes, articles like Zionism or random placenames with "Zion" are not *at* Zionites, but they are plausibly related to the topic and might be used as a search. This is chopping up the term more finely than is merited - all of those variants of "Zion" are highly related. It'd be like saying that oily or oils shouldn't redirect to oil if there was some obscure French religious group called "oily" with 5 pageviews a day. I also disagree with your change to the disambiguation page - all of these terms are interrelated, it doesn't make sense to shuffle minor Zion variants off to "See also". SnowFire (talk) 21:24, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- @SnowFire: The disambiguation page exists to help readers navigate to different pages that might otherwise be called "Zion": it's not a dictionary or list of inter-related terms. In that respect it does make sense "to shuffle minor Zion variants off to "See also"" because they're not "Zion". On your first point, Zionites might be "an incredibly minor and tiny topic that has almost no coverage within the wiki" but it's got an article. All of the uses of "Zionite" in Enwiki refer to either the German sect or the Christ Community Church or, once, The Matrix, and not to any other use. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 21:36, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- I guess we should just have a community discussion then - I'll file a requested move. I understand your argument and I'd agree with it on many topics where there's a WP:SMALLDETAILS reason to use slightly differing pagenames to differentiate topics, but not for this one. If 0.01% of the pageviews for other topics on Zion_(disambiguation) are related to someone using "Zionite" / "Zionites", that would still overwhelm the pageviews for the German religious group. Zionites → Zionites (Germany) – Revert undiscussed move to long-standing title, and restore a redirect of "Zionites" to Zion (disambiguation) (specifically a version that includes Zion variants as well - it was recently refactored). Pageviews are nearly nonexistent for this minor topic as are internal links or editing. Even if an incredibly tiny amount of traffic to other topics like Zionist churches, Zionism, etc. use "Zionite", it would still overwhelm usage of this 5-view-a-day-mostly-bots topic (that also conflicts with Christ Community Church, but that's in a hatnote at least), making it not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term "Zionite" or "Zionites". SnowFire (talk) 22:10, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. See my comments in the section above (summary: this is the only article with the title; the majority of the small number of mentions of "Zionite" in enwiki are about the subject of this page). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:46, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Inappropriate primarytopic grab should be reverted. Dicklyon (talk) 04:16, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. I see no evidence that any other topic competes with this as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Cúchullain t/c 19:18, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
