Pronunciation edit

Hi all. As Shaqiri is from Kosovo the correct pronunciation of his name is Shachiri and not Shakiri. Thought this should be mentioned =) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.242.215.11 (talk) 17:24, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'll see to it when the it is unprotected. There is more wrong with the whole article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kthimi në Shqipëri (talkcontribs) 09:45, 7 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

An important message and advice to the Serbs colleagues here on Wikipedia. Can You All STOP writing things about Shaqiri in Serbian! Shaqiri is born in Gjilanë, Kosovo. He is Kosovar and he prefers things being written in English or Albanian here. Plus writing Yugoslavia is like writing Scandinavia!!! We need to be specific about where he is born and that is Kosovo! footedness edit

sorry I am not very good at editing wikipedia, I tried and failed to put that his prefered foot is his left. I can easily refrence this but I cannot make it show up in the info box. I left it in the code underneath his height if someone more compotent than me can fix it that would be great. Urholygod (talk) 17:18, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

According to wiki.de he is ambidextrous. Both can't be right. Neither has any sources for their claim. --Lukati (talk) 12:32, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please be more specific about what needs to be changed. — Bility (talk) 22:22, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
In the info box where it says things like height, place of birth ect. one of the pieces of information included should be 'prefered foot: Left' 90.193.28.80 (talk) 00:35, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I tried to fix that but I believe this infobox has a different configuration from many others. It is mentioned in the intro if you check and that was down to reuqest here. Evlekis (Евлекис) (argue) 05:51, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Confirmed signing for Bayern Munich from summer 2012, 09.02.2012 edit

Any reason his signing for Bayern Munich, confirmed on the official site of the club, was removed? http://www.fcbayern.telekom.de/en/news/news/2012/33358.php — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.215.85.60 (talk) 23:25, 9 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

There is no ligitimate reason to remove it or the header. Kingjeff (talk) 16:11, 10 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Name edit

Currently, his name is in Serbian. I want to remove that but I can't because the page is semi-protected. Can an administrator with access to the article please remove that because it has been unlawfully added, shaqiri is an ethnic Albanian not a Serb. And also, can the same administrator please give the correct country which is Republic of Kosovo for birth. Kthimi në Shqipëri (talk) 09:43, 7 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

The country where he was born was called Yugoslavia at the time of his birth; Republic of Kosovo did not exist at that time so his place of birth is correct.
I don't know what you mean by "his name is in Serbian". He is called Xherdan Shaqiri in a lot of sources, so I don't see anything wrong with his name. --Jaellee (talk) 18:38, 7 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Add the pronunciation edit

Could someone add the pronunciation: Albanian pronunciation: [dʒeɾˈdan ʃaˈciɾi]?

The pronunciation was given as Albanian pronunciation: [ˈdʒɛɾdan ʃaˈciɾi], and I corrected it to Albanian pronunciation: [dʒɛɾˈdan ʃaˈciɾi], changing the stress of Xherdan. This recording stresses the final syllable of Xherdan, and this is supported by this description of Albanian word stress indicates that if the final syllable of a base form has a strong vowel (a, i, u), then it receives stress. —Iceager (talk) 09:35, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Name in Serbo-Croat edit

I have removed this variation of his name because apart from him being born in Yugoslavia and possibly having such a name on documents, it has no encyclopedic importance, it is just a detail in his personal file. Had he played for a club in the Serbian league or had a name for himself within that country, or maybe Croatia or Bosnia then fair enough but as things stand, it was not useful information. Incorrect edits in the biography edit

This version:

Shaqiri was born in Gjilan, Kosovo (then part of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) to Albanian Kosovar parents

Is incorrect. First, there's no article for Gjilan, it's at Gnjilane. Second. He was not born in Kosovo as there was no such nation in October 1991. Third, there's no support for the nationalism being pushed here. There was an earlier version that indicated that he was born in Gnjilane, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (modern-day Kosovo), but that was removed here because the anon felt, as I do now, that there’s no need for a history lesson. It’s not constructive to continue to edit this to an incorrect state and to do so without explanation. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:46, 21 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Inter Milan vs Internazionale (again) edit

I've opened a discussion about the club's correct name at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Inter Milan vs Internazionale (again). --Jaellee (talk) 20:47, 3 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

There doesn't actually seem to be a need for this; that's exactly why I told you to check every other Inter player's article. Shaqiri is the only one with Inter Milan rather than Internazionale. If you'd like, you can also check all the European season articles (Champions League and Europa League) where you'll see the same thing: Internazionale. Also, the article name has nothing to do with how you name a hyperlink. Please, dts. Italia2006 (talk) 21:48, 3 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Obviously there is a need. And please lets discuss this in one place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Inter Milan vs Internazionale (again). --Jaellee (talk) 22:13, 3 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Jaellee and Italia2006: Move now requested at Talk:Inter Milan#Requested move 5 July 2015. Qed237 (talk) 17:18, 5 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

No, I agree with Italia2006 and I also speak for other users here, when I say that from what we can see Xherdan Shaqiri's article is the single only page to have his former club Internazionale listed as Inter Milan, this makes no sense. It's almost like we're making an exception because it's Xherdan Shaqiri and that to be would suggest "favouritism". --Kő Cloch (talk) 17:27, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
This has already been discussed several times. WP:COMMONNAME should be used in infoboxes. Please read the previous discussions for example here or here or in lots of other discussions at WT:FOOTY (you can use the search function of the archives). You may also have a look at the last move request of Inter Milan where you can see that a majority of editors thinks that Inter Milan is the correct name of the club. --Jaellee (talk) 17:08, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Note: This message is important! edit

It can't be right writing Shaqiri's birthplace in Serbian now that Shaqiri is Kosovo-Albanian! This article should primarily be written in English and the second language of choice is Albanian. So his birthplace is Gjilanë as written in Albanian. His country of birth is Kosovo. Writing JUGOSLAVIA is like writing Scandinavia! When Shaqiri got born JUGOSLAVIA was not existing! Makolli86 (talk) 16:05, 20 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Xherdan Shaqiri is from Kosovo and he is Kosovo-Albanian ! Makolli86 (talk) 00:11, 21 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

In 1991, AP Kosovo and Metohija still belonged to SR Serbia and SFR Yugoslavia. Kosovo was not a country at that time. His birthplace was at that time known as Gnjilane, as it is still known in Serbian.--Zoupan 00:22, 21 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

New Team = Liverpool Musarose (talk) 20:06, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not done Not without a reliable source. Editors from several clubs have been claiming him so youc an see the need for verifiable proof that he has signed with a specific team. That would be a press release from the club or league, not a paper. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:16, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Pro-Albianian is not Kosovar. edit

Contrary to the "good faith edit" I have been tagged with, it is not so. Saying "Pro-Albanian" does not reflect the true nature of why Shaqiri was left out. If you know his life, you would know how he was going to play for the Kosovar National Team, and his celebrations against Serbia shown that he stands with the Kosovars, his people. It should be stressed he is not "Pro-Albianian", but that he himself is Kosovar, and that is why he was in danger if he went to Serbia.

Schwiiz (talk) 20:06, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

You were not tagged, you were reverted. The fact remains, keep the politics out of the article. If he wants to engage in political activities on-field, that's his choice. If there are sources to support it, we can discuss it. It makes more sense to gloss over the minutia of activities for the sake of both parties (Shaqiri and the anti-Albanian forces who oppose him). Feel free to take the discussion to a larger group though as this is currently two diverse opinions. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:13, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
