False References

edit

I assumed good faith and tried to improve this article, but now have reservations.
This article was started on 24 February 2011. Most references cited are deadlinks, and it is unlikely that they have died in the last 3 days. Other references link to general newspaper sites, not actual articles. All references are false-dated with dates in 2007, 2008 & 2010, on an article started in 2011. I see no genuine Reliable Sources at all. Arjayay (talk) 16:55, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Best References I can provide

edit

I am the manager of the band and I have cited all articles from magazines and editorials posted by those identified in the source and reference lists. The band has not died and is in fact very active and legitmate. As a new user to Wiki I am trying my best to do this on my own with limited Wiki experience. I am placing information as provided to me by those that have contributed and have done articles on Subrosa Union. My references sir are not false and again I have copies of magazines and news articles to authenticate everything I have posted on this wiki site. Firstly, if you are "the manager of the band" please read Conflict of Interest. You should probably not be editing this article at all.
Perhaps you misunderstand what I mean by "False References". All the facts you state in the article need to be quoted from a Reliable Source, so readers can check the facts for themselves.
Currently (see timestamp at end) there are seven references cited in the text (the 7 that appear in the numbered list under "References"), six were added on 24 February and one on 26 February, although they all claim to have been retrieved long before then. Taking these in turn:-
  1. "Subrosa Union Interview, SXSW 2010 "Spinner"." links to an article about SXSW 2011 which does not mention SU
  2. "Muecke/: Subrosa Union Interview "El Paso Times"." links to todays front page of the El Paso times which does not mention SU
  3. "Chavez/: Subrosa Union Interview "El Paso Times"." also links to todays front page of the El Paso times which does not mention SU
  4. "Subrosa Union Interview "Austin Music Magazine"." Gives "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find www.austinmusicmagazine.net"
  5. "Subrosa Union Interview "PollStar"." Gives "Unfortunately, the page you've requested either no longer exists or caused an error"
  6. "Subrosa Union Interview." Gives "Unfortunately, the page you've requested either no longer exists or caused an error"
  7. "Subrosa Union Interview "AustinVida". Gives "Not Found, Error 404"
This means that none of the facts cited in the article, can be found in an independant reliable source.
Please understand that I am an "Inclusionist" (see meta:Inclusionism) I believe that information should be liberally added and retained on Wikipedia, and favour keeping and amending problematic articles over deleting them. I am less concerned with the question of notability, and instead focus on whether or not an article is factual, with merit, or useful.
There are others on Wikipedia (the "Deletionists") who focus on notability, and delete your article almost immediately, as none of the 7 references currently cited in the article lead to anything that refers to SU. To avoid them doing this, please refer to the notability criteria for bands to be found at WP:Band, and make sure you can clearly meet at least one of them, preferably two.
I realise you are not an experienced editor, perhaps you should look at some other articles, on slightly better known bands and see how they handle references and categories.

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 3 external links on Subrosa Union. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
