Merging this page and Ghost of Kyiv edit

We know the name of the Ghost of Kyiv now, we should merge the pages. Probably the final page should be this one --Sinucep (talk) 09:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

May be - though my gut feeling is, its not that simple. I mean there is a difference between the two, in that the Ghost is possibly an urban legend, and this is definitely an actual real person, and a noted fighter ace. So possible they are the same thing, and possibly not! There is some commentary saying that they are in fact, not the same. IMHO, as no one seems to be utterly convinced one way or the other, it seemed to make sense to have separate articles.... at least until we hear more on the matter. We don't know if Tarabalka really was the Ghost of Kyiv. He was credited as such by Ukrainian govemrnt/media however, as of now, it is disputed if such pilot really existed, or where they an urban legend/war propaganda. As such, this article shouldn't treat the statements about the Ghost of Kyiv as completely true, nor should those 2 articles be merged. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 16:26, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
https://twitter.com/ragipsoylu/status/1520466584967516160 According to this it seems like Ghost of Kyiv was admitted to be a lie. Someone else will come with a proper source, surely. DefendingFree (talk) 20:36, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
According to the Air Force Command of the UA Armed Forces (wich is also demanding to stop the spread of fake news), Tarabalka was not the Ghost of Kyiv. The total amount of 40 aircraft shot down was done together by the Pilots of the 40th Tactical Air Brigade. Here is the source: [1] Nicola Romani (talk) 21:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Page name edit

If the subject's birth name is Ukrainian and anglicized romanized Stepan, why is the page name Stephen? The lead sentence gives the latter as "also known as...". See the added template requesting a reliable source for the alternative name. -- Deborahjay (talk) 10:53, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you. There are no sources at all nor evidence to support this sentence. So, I support the move of the page to Stepan Tarabalka. Nicola Romani (talk) 12:40, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
agreed, seems like wp:COMMONNAME is stepan Cononsense (talk) 13:08, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
the third variation, which the times used was "Stephan Tarabalka" Cononsense (talk) 15:56, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, Stepan Tarabalka would seem to make more sense. Gildir (talk) 13:21, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Consensus achieved here. An attempt to move the page as concurred failed to overwrite the existing REDIRECT page with that name. Assistance requested at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests#Uncontroversial technical requests -- Deborahjay (talk) 10:41, 3 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Notability edit

If he's not the Ghost of Kyiv and didn't shoot down 40 planes[1], why does he need its own page? The news coverage was founded on the premise that those things were correct, which turned out not to be the case.
